THE CATWALK
Do you picture your character as a certain type of adventurer? Have you molded him/ her within the preconceived notions of alignment and profession? Does he/ she act in the manner appropriate of his/ her attributes? Do you role-play your character to the extent of presenting him/her in appropriate attire?
Do you want to exercise your extrovert?
Welcome to the catwalk, ladies and gentlemen; the House of Fashion presents you with the opportunity to strut your stuff under the gaze of the public eye.
Dim the lights, let loose the minstrels, ready the spotlight… and put your hands together!
Ladies and Gentlemen! I give you…….
************************************************** ******
Don't show up in your everyday adventuring outfit. I've used Judge Fury as an example. He is outfitted in everything applicable to my idea of a well-dressed necromancer. In actual fact, he 'borrowed' a few items from Tallys for the occassion. What I want to see is how you picture your character at the future height of his/ her power. If you're a warrior, adorn yourself in the garb of a great hero. If you practice the use of magic and favour a particular style, find appropriate attire and adornments. Dress extravagantly, be all you can be, bring the bling!

The two girls look quizzically at each other then break out in another fit of hysterical laughter.
"Who's the hunk?" One asks. "Just look at those muscles. Isn't his head a little small though?"
"You've got a point there." The other laughs, oblivious of the pun.
Maskull belches and begins flexing for the scandalized audience. "Get him off the stage!" Someone in the back row yells.
In the meantime, unbeknownst to the agitated onlookers, high above them seated on a beam in the dimmest corner of the gabled ceiling, an imp carefully studies their human antics. The master will want to hear of this, it tells itself. There is hope for us, after all. These humans are nothing if not ridiculous. No match for our tricksy and cunning. It smirks in the darkness, and, as an afterthought, adds, my precious.

If I had to class Hawk in D&D terms it would be as a Bard/Ranger. All items are of Sryth origin, including Wyxryn's Supreme Ring (optionally worn when needed for unarmed encounters). The only liberty I took with Srythian fact is that given the option Hawk would prefer Banderyp's Blade (a shortsword) and Hawk's Talon (a dagger) to dual wield. Also a little of my D&D days carried over when deciding to carry a low-end magic spear (for poking, prodding and hurling before closing) and a normal weapon (never know when those magic immune foes will appear plus it can also be thrown). Incidentally, I barely missed out on actually getting the Hawk-Emblazoned items when I went AG (for those that don't know they were a limited time bonus for going AG).

Feeling very awkward at this very moment, John Ardin continues down the lane. And to think, not even the Dreadstones made him feel this nervous. The feeling starts to subside when he reaches the end without a single tomato thrown at him. Actually, Tallys would kill him if tomato stains got onto any of this armor before he returned it. As he walks back, he suddenly becomes suspicious of someone watching him (Excluding the crowd) Someone who is looking at him, specifically, Waiting for some moment in the future to act. There is not much he can do about it now, though, so he lets it go, making a mental note to keep on his toes.

This thread is inspired by Badstench. Judge Fury is what he is... which is just another character who adventures in the world of Sryth.
I view Judge Fury as the medaeival equivalent to Wyatt Earp; in Dungeons & Dragons terms, he is Lawful Good.
Being Lawful Good in the world of Sryth is not necessarily the same as being Lawful Good in this real world.
How does Necromancy fit into the idea of being Lawful Good, because Judge Fury has become a legend in that particular power. This started accidentally; I just wanted him to be awesome with his use of Tzal-Toalth. On the path to being a legendary staff weilder, he became a practicer of the dark art of necromancy.
But I didn't want him to be the type-cast evil raiser-of-the-dead.
So, what's my point, you may ask?
I can only answer that by inviting you to watch the progress of Judge Fury: My goals are to reach legendary status in Restoration, then Lore, Diplomacy and Arcana, not necessarily in that order.
He is a Judge first, a necromancer second, and as such, those skills seem to fit how I should roleplay him.
Do you have an ultimate idea of your character?

My idea of Alanne is that she is a Healer/ Warrior. Sort of like the character Tsunade in Naruto. My goals (after Archery with the upcoming tournament) Level 80 in Restro, Weaponry, Unarmed, Hacking, Lore. Then 90 then 100. Weaponry is for the line in the profile.
Dinkem
08-07-2009, 11:51 PM
I haven't really pinned down how I want Dinkem's character to be. I always envisioned him as a makeshift warrior from one of the poorer sections of Sryth; makeshift, as in, he just kinda stumbles into good or bad fortune, and is lucky to have a good sword on him. I'm working on it, but that's all I have right now.

@Badstench: Divination would also be a good power for a judge, I think...
When I tried to build a secondary character, I named him Jack Sparrow and... expected him to have legendary Necromancy, Seamanship, Thievery, Swords and Diplomacy. But I ended up realizing I won't have time to take care of him.

I always thought of Lua as a mercenary who has two goals in life: Survive and get paid. Putting people down (figuratively and literally) is optional. She enjoys putting her thieving skills and knack at divination to use for her own benefit and give the Trithik guard the equivalent of flipping the bird (not that she can't do that as well), and she's not a bad hand with a knife or two.
In D&D terms, she might be a Neutral/Chaotic Evil rogue.
"Fer all yer faults, ye sure can wag a fine tale 'bout me. Ain't many livin' skags 'round that makes me little bloody 'eart glow."
That wasn't supposed to be complimentary. I have to admit, though, that this current incarnation is much more pleasant to be with rather than that psychotic, borderline emo nutcase you initially were. I still wince thinking about that.
"Ach, ye've always been lily-liver'd. All those prissy girls ye like hangin' out with? Ye know what I think of 'em? Suck a blade."
Jealous? Never thought you'd have it in you.
"Donna knock yerself over, skag, or I'll stick ye a good 'un. 'Sides, ye ain't my type."
Maskull
08-10-2009, 06:49 AM
I think of Maskull as a noble paladin - my favorite character has always been Huma Dragonslayer - a righter of wrongs, annoyingly pollyannaish at times, discreet to the point of monkhood, incorrigibly good, painstakingly meticulous in the care of his armaments, and a pain in the behind to all those he views as evilly fractious. He can be a bit intolerant of the slightest misdeeds at times because he holds the highest expectations and demands the most charitable behavior from and of those around him. His name betrays a sordid past steeped in necromantic ritual, one he nows seeks to absolve through moral fortitude and faithful service to others. And he wears pajamas with pictures of cracked eggs and little bunnies falling out of them.
Choson One
08-29-2009, 07:32 PM
My character is The Chosen One. Who is The Chosen One? He is the master of all forms of magic, his sword styles are unknown and he can do whatever he wants. He can save the world from a Giant Evil Dragon, or help said Giant Evil Dragon destroy it. He has no fears and in due time, be one of the most powerful beings ever.
Right now he is good, and still starting out, knowing only Necromancy and Telekinesis, and the most powerful weapon right now is the Magic Dagger. But I just started out. Soon enough he will be The Last Best Hope Of Humanity when we all face a great evil, or be The Scourge Of Humanity and bring Death and Destruction. Only time will tell. And Weapons and armor? Just a Magic Dagger, a bunch of Leather, and a Magic Skull Amulet. Soon enough though, I will have all forms of magic for no reason at all! Also the skills are Weaponry, Thievery, Woodsmenship, and Diplomancy.

Halan Brelster hails from a small village not far from Sebaldin in Ryorsial. When he was thirteen, the village was attacked by human raiders and almost all were killed, including Halan's parents and younger sister. Halan survived only by escaping into the woods, where he bore witness to the slaughter of all he'd known.
A week later, a knight traveling alone on the road to Sebaldin was set upon by highwaymen from both sides. He fought fiercely, but was overmatched and was soon struck from his saddle. However, as the highwaymen moved in to kill the knight, there was a sudden barrage of rocks from the bushes that distracted and injured several of the bandits, knocking one unconscious. The knight regained his feet and struck down the remaining bandits. As he turned to get a look at his savior, he saw an emaciated, crying child grab one of the bandit's spears and plunge it into the chest of the unconscious man.
The wrath of the child surprised the knight, but his courage had won him over. Quickly discerning that the boy was the sole survivor of the nearby destroyed village, he took Halan into his own care and, calling in a few favors, gave Halan the opportunity to be a squire for the Knights of the Gated Legion based out of Sebaldin.
Halan took to his training with ease, quickly becoming skilled in a wide range of weapons and survival skills, as well as taking to his less-glorious duties without complaint. However, he found the lifestyle too constricting and wondered to himself whether this was something he truly wanted for his life.
When he was 17, Halan went with his knight (and final instructor) on a mission to deliver an important message to a Tysian thane. One night, their camp was attacked by the undead. Halan survived, but the knight was killed and the message for the Tysian thane had fallen into the fire and burned.
After burying his mentor, Halan contemplated his options. Duty would have called for him to return to Ryorsial and present himself as a complete failure to the knightly order of the Gated Legion. On the other hand, Halan had been listening to the men in the inns of Tysa and their tales of how adventurers could make their way in the kingdom. It was the freedom Halan wanted, along with the opportunity to fight for justice, good... and perhaps more.
The boy was known only as Halan to the knights back in Sebaldin, and by no name in the lands of Tysa. The boy took on his family name, Brelster, as his identity, cast aside his tabard, and began the long walk that would lead him to a small village called Hawklor...

ValothBranstrommer
10-28-2009, 09:39 PM
Valoth Illadriath Branstrommer, tenth in line to the Silver Throne of the Ilniarch, lived a happy life as a child of the Great Champion Khampak Branstrommer. This moment of happiness was short lived as Khampak was slain in a battle defending the border realms of the Ilniarch from Izan the Wyrmlord.
Without his father's direction, the Branstrommer fortune was stolen by their own financial advisors, and Valoth, his mother and sister were left destitute and forgoten by the monarchy they'd served for eight generations.
Sickness stole his mother from him at the age of 14 but Valoth managed to take care of he and his sister by doing odd jobs around the city they lived in. When his sister became ill nearly a year later of the same disease his mother'd had, Valoth swore to find a cure for her...and he did. The cost of the cure, however, was more that he could earn in three years of employment in the small city they called home.
Inspired by desperation, he traveled across the border into the land of Athix, a cruel land run by slavers and warlords. In their capitol, he entered into arena fighting to earn the money for the cure and won many matches, quickly gaining money. Upon hearing his sister's condition worsening, however, he risked it all in an attempt against their arena champion, Xeliks.
The fight would have been his, but for some enchantments illegally placed on his adversary. With the loss of the fight, his freedom was wrenched from him, along with all the money he'd worked to earn.
One month afterward, he was told his sister had died of her disease by the slaver who'd 'won' him in the fight. Three years in the arena followed that announcement, and Valoth, without a home or a family to return to, spiraled into a monotonous existence of kill or be killed.
During his third year in captivity. His 'master' lost himself in a drunken rage over a lost bet in the arena, and valoth, who'd won the match(much to his 'master's' chagrin,) walked out of the arena a free man.
Intent on vengeance, however, his 'master' paid a well-known assassin to hunt him down. The assassin, found him quite easily, and the struggle was short-lived as Valoth watched the aggressor's blade as it pierced his chest and all went black.
When he awoke, he was sitting in the hills of Southwestern Tysa, wondering how he'd survived, and, moreso, why he was here in this foreign land.

Having played Rundum for quite a while now, I envision him more of a person in the right place at the right time more than someone out to make a mark on the world. In starting out he was fairly Neutral, his main Nevernal Sphere being Divination to aid him in combat, and when he took up Iakor's weapon he became Demonic, and then having switched it for a Silver weapon is now Saintly, although he has given up his Silver weapon for Trielra's Staff, which he uses with reckless abandon.
The name was a spur-of-the-moment take on "random", and his adventuring has been fairly random as well, although he has made some decisions that others may consider hard-hearted and his deep delving into the arts of Necromancy and Shadow Magic have given him a sinister reputation, and his main skills of Weaponry and Thievery and his upbringing in Trithik led him to start his questing aligned with less-than-savory types, he will also never kill a helpless or unarmed foe, and has a soft spot for those who are poor or helpless and always fights to protect them and help them better their lot in life.
After a couple years of playing Rundum, I see him a lot like Richard from the Sword of Truth books; he didn't really set out one day to become the great and fearsome thing he is now, but since this destiny was set upon him he isn't letting anyone else dictate what he's going to do with it, nor would he dictate what anyone else should do with theirs. In D&D terms his alignment would be Chaotic Neutral, "free spirit", and freedom is the main thing he fights for, freedom for himself and all others to do what they will as long as it doesn't restrict a person's (or even a goblin's) right to do as they desire.

I've just started after hearing so many great things about this game - so far it is living up to my friends hype; i've decided to make a 'free spirit' fighter (lol) focusing on unarmed combat, Thievery, Diplomacy, Lore and the use of making illusions. I was going more for the metephorical 'wind' type character rather than the literal (i.e.: Elemental and Destruction Magi, Alchemy, etc...) and with the AG XP i just added to my character (lvl 40s in Thievery, Diplomacy, Lore. lvl 50 in Illusion and lvl 55 in Unarmed [beast!]), I think i'll be *just* fine for the majority of my quest, lol.

Fell Song

I always invisioned my character to be a fierce fighter. alittle on the demonic side, he was framed for mass murder of certain towns and villages. not necessarily good. but he kinda just does what he wants. no one knows why he does what he does until the results of his actions show. i think in his past one of his closest friends who gave his soul up to a neverness god for immortalitly and power, bretrayed him, and was responsable for the death of thousands. and everyone blamed Fell. Fell then was captured, tortured, and burned to death(well everyone thought he burned to death) a few hundred years later he reappears...he looks like a young human, but not entirely. his once bright blue eyes are now crimson, fiery orange hair(some say changed because of how he died). and has dark powers, and a uncontrollable rage. He seeks revenge agaisnt his friend. Now roaming the realms, he is still known as a murderer but most have forgotten those times save for a select few who know his legend when he was once human. ive always been the good guy, always made characters heroes in my fantasies. im interested in making fell a guy thats not really a hero, kinda one those characters you see behind the scenes stirring up trouble for the rest of the heroes and later on confronting them in a epic battle, but basically doing-your-own-thing guy.

(My thoughts turned this part-way into story. x.x I know it's an old thread, but I'd rather necro this thread, than create a duplicate thread.)
I should probably make it clear now, but Neos Rivetter is definately not human. Many are you are wondering whom it could be, if not human, considering that in the Runeskin saga, the player character is clearly defined that the being in question is indeed human.
I should also point out that despite his self-chosen appearance, Neos is neither male, female or both. It is neither. Despite this, it has actually fallen for a particular human female in the past, its oft-taken form affecting his behavior slowly but surely.
The last I should point out is that Neos was created, not born. And the being hated the conditions it was forced to live in.
Just be thankful Neos Rivetter chose a human form to take on of his own crafting. Its true form is considerably larger...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Neos Rivetter was created 10 years ago in the body of a never-before-existed lesser dragon species known as a Mimicdrake (sometimes pronounced without the 'c'), capable of shaping its form at will and becoming whomever it chose to be.
Its creator, a powerful Necromancer named Drakir, went beyond the raising of dead with the Mimicdrake's creation. He collected bones from various creatures as well as flesh, scales and organs from the freshly-slain, molding them all and shaping the pieces into one fluid body. Blue horns, neon-green eyes with dark-green irises, purple scales, inch-long yellow tailfeathers, and the body of a house-sized western dragon. Drakir smiled at his creation, but he wasn't aware just yet about how strong a will this being would have when it first awoke, and how difficult it would be to keep it under control.
Two years, Neos, though he was never named by the Necromancer, was forced to ravage the communities that dared to brave the wilds, chasing them out of their homes and bringing the dead to its Necromancer master.
Near the end of the two years, the drake had both been freed from his 'master' as well as discovered a serious flaw in its design. Rokkmakara, of all people, had found where both Necromancer and Mimicdrake were resting. Only after a commanded issued from Drakir did it attack, its battling moves looking as if it didn't want to fight to begin with.
Rokkmakara had a moment of realization. The dragon, though he did not know what it was called, didn't want any part of what was going on. It was forced into the actions it had taken.
With a well-placed punch, Rokkmakara landed a solid blow against its chest, both winding it and rendering it unable to fly. The flaw in the dragon's design turned out to be how the wings joined the rest of the body, joining at the ribs and colarbone then going over the shoulder, instead of just having the wings emerge from the shoulders. Though not seriously hurt, it was no longer able to fight, giving the warrior time to deal with the real villian of the pair.
Without the Mimicdrake to defend him, Drakir found himself dead at the end of the braggart warrior's blade. When you rely on another to defend yourself, you forget how to fight at the worst possible time.
Sword still in hand, Rokkmakara walked up to the created dragon, lifting the blade as if he was ready to end its life there. He found himself looking into the dragon's eyes and then sheathing the blade almost immediately.
"Get out of here when you can. If you really can shapeshift as the rumors say, blend in with the crowd and don't make yourself obvious." The sudden brightening of the glow in the dragon's eyes became apparent, as if it was relieved that it wouldn't have to pay for the actions forced upon it.
Making great effort to move and flap its wings, the large purple dragon managed to fly off into the horizon, disappearing into the sky.
"I hope I didn't make a mistake just now."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It had been seven years since a brand new face appeared to the adventuring world, one that had never been seen before. Yellow, wide-brimmed fedora and a yellow jacket appearing more like a modern-age toxedo jacket were seen adorning a blue-haired man that appeared to be in his early 20's.
Srythak, he was horrible at Traitor's Gambit. It was the one time where his skills of both Thievery and Divination never worked for him.
"Neos, just quit while you're ahead and leave before you wind up broke again," one of the female patrons at the same table softly advised toward the unusually-dressed man, before the person looked up, revealing an unusual set of eyes, neon-green with dark-green irises.
"You know me better than that," he quipped, fixing his jacket and revealing a candy-cane pendant over a simple black shirt, by mistake. "I don't stop playing until I win or lose." With that, he threw in 3 more pieces of gold into the pot before being dealt a new hand
"Your gold," she sighed before throwing 3 gold into the pot herself. Lowering the brim of his hat back over his eyes, Neos focused on using the power of Divination, trying to see what everyone else had managed to acquire in their draws. The bartender realized what was going, especially after managing to see a slight glow of green underneath the hat.
"Rivetter, no future-seeing at the game table, you know the rules!" Managing not to reveal his hand at the same time, the patron in question faceplanted into the table after getting caught.
"Dang it, Piripor," he mumbled, face still planted against the table. Sitting back up, Neos just shook his head. "I'm gonna have to leave after this hand now." Not happy he got caught again, he tossed 10 more gold coins into the pot, the cost of him getting caught 'cheating' at the table.
When the hand was done, Neos stood up and left, revealing clean-cut purple pants and business shoes of the same color. It was as if he had seen far into the future of Sryth with his divining power to craft his chosen outfit.
Destiny has a tendency to repeat the past at the worst opportunities, and he found himself walking through the streets of Hawklor.
Runeskin can kiss his purple scaly ass if he thinks this drake would ever be his champion. It does amuse the disguised dragon that Runeskin doesn't realize what exactly he's getting himself into with his 'future champion'. Looking around to see if anyone was in sight, Neos used the power of Illusion to render himself invisible before a burst of wind could be felt through the area, as if something large had just taken flight from where the strange being once stood.

...well, the sprite says it all.

That's great, Tes, really! Congrats! :D As far as Neos' human form, your description fits the image, and the sprite matches your textual description to a T. :)
As for the Mimicdrake... Obviously, I'd love to see his 'original' shape, as created by Drakir... But that's just an idle wish, not a request. :)

Tes,
Very nice development and thought-provoking. What is really important is that it was a darned good read!! Thanks.
