Thank you all very much! :D It's been a pretty decent day, considering how depressed I was feeling about it 24 hours ago. We (my wife, my mom, and I) got a very tasty take-out dinner from a local French restaurant a few blocks away, followed by a yummy chocolate truffle cake from a nearby bakery. (I do like how much closer everything is here in San Francisco compared to when we were living in Oakland!)

Note that ALL the decorations are edible, including the "card" with the writing on it and the little logo that says "Schubert's Bakery". :cool:

(My favorite cake is actually spice cake, but you can't find that at bakeries around here any more, so I had to "settle" for chocolate truffle cake. ;))

Seems I've a bit reticent (that's a word for the "word of the day" thread).

2011, and maybe I'm in denial. Being in your 40's was okay till you hit the wrong side of that number, then it was excusable to freak out and have a mid-life crisis.

My brother is almost exactly ten years my junior.

When I told him I'd be 46 this year, he accused me of being a silly old fart. "You'll be 47," he said.

So I did the math in my head and realised he was right. I lost a year!

Anyways... for me, 2011 has been a good year. 2012 will be even better.

Unless the Mayans were right and the world goes down the toilet.

Cheers all. The day was satisfactory. That may sound less than exhuberant, but I was at work for most of it. However, the afternoon wound its way into the evening quite pleasantly, and now two days later and a whole year older, I still just feel like a big kid.

I think when you're my age, single and living solo, you don't have to prove responsibility to anyone. Thus, if I don't wanna do any housework today, I damn-well won't, and If I wanna stick my feet on the coffee table while I watch whatever I wanna watch on TV, I damn-well will! Some days I might be lazy or non-constructive or self-satsfying or childishly selfish, but who's going to know, eh?

Yeah, the silver cups... They drank wine (H2O being unsafe, and simply because the well-to-do classes didn't drink much water - especially during the years of the plague, as far as I know; hmm, just realised I still haven't read Defoe's book...).

So, with wine, more of the metal leaches into the liquid... If Ag's effective in any way against the plague (a big enough 'if') that might be enough, considering the quantities they tended to drink - think water... :-)

Thanks everybody from my wife and myself.

After having a very bad birthday last year, (blasted plan ruining weather) I think this years went over quite well.

I took Friday off from work so I could do my normal weekend chores (grocery, bills, etc...).
We went out for dinner Friday, ordered out Saturday, and went out for lunch Sunday.

Saturday, at her request, we painted!!! I think not complaining about it (I hate to paint) was as big a present as me doing it.

Saturday night, I baked her a birthday cake. She almost never gets one for one reason or another. I don't know why I never baked one for her before. It's not like it's hard. (cake mix and canned icing)

Haha, I finally caught you! With my new modly powers, I just discovered that Scout and Oldschool posted those last two posts from the same IP address less than 30 minutes apart. :eek: No WONDER I'm always mixing you two up -- you really are the same person!!!

Or, well, I suppose one of them could have been visiting the other one so they both logged on from the same computer. I guess West Virginia and Ohio aren't too far apart...

But I like the first possibility better. :p



Edit: Sigh, it's worse than I thought. I just found two more posts, by Texlaw and me, with the same IP address as both Oldschool and Scout. So now the possibilities are narrowed down to:

A) I've been posting as at least three other people without ever knowing it for all these years... :eek:

B) Or, something is dreadfully wrong with the "IP address viewing" feature. :(

Disappointing though it is to realize that Scout and OS aren't really the same person after all, I'd rather accept that than have to accept that I have multiple personalities and never even realized it. (No wonder I never have enough time in the day for everything! :D)

But I like your first interpretation better, myself! (And it reminds me of an old exchange several months ago, when you promised to share some conspiracy theories in secret - a statue of Thane Pyrond in Trithink may have been mentioned, I think?... Sounded suspicious enough, but what the heck, you only live once, I said yes... ;) Tough, in the end neither of us showed up, I think. :D Wisdom, I'm sure... :))

Oh, funny bloke! :D I just had a quick look round the forum... Wasn't around when he was posting still, in 2009, but some of the later posts are in the Giggle Bag, and here's one of the jokes posted by him in 2009:
