I just want to express how much I'm enjoying Sryth. I'm a rpg guy from way back (early 90s) and normally I like games with graphical interface. I can say I feel a lot more immersed in this game than I have been in many graphical ones. Defiantly has the feel of an epic novel which I get to play the hero.
One question as a newb, how many hours worth of play would you say it is to "finish the game". Anyone know?

Welcome to the Game and forum, Adlostman!!!
As for your question....
It depends on how you define "finish the game".
If you define it as "completing all events ever in the game and slaying the master Demon", then that is impossable. Sryth is an ongoing RPG - only a small fraction of the story has actually been written.
If you define it as "Completing all events up to the most recently added stuff" then I would estimate 3-4 months.
And if you define "finish the game" as getting your character as powerful as possable.... It is a LOT of hard work. Good power that will get you through most stuff is MR/SP 200/200. And getting AS&P to 100 takes a lot of time and effort.
Note that the Sryth Wiki (http://sryth.wikia.com) is typicly a good source of information on Adventures. And don't be shy to ask questions here, either!!! Good luck!

It is definitely an excellent game, but it could keep you entertained for years as the new events and story are released as you progress.
I, myself, have been playing Sryth for two years.

Thanks for the welcome. I plan to stick around. Anyone else play while working on a smart phone? My android phone does the trick. I little tricky to use the map interface, but doable. I love that I can make one move and come back to it in an hour and be in the same place to continue a couple more moves or decisions. It is very unique in that.

I was actually thinking of possibly creating an Android App for the game, as I just bought an Android phone myself.
Will keep the forum updated as my work on it progresses. Once it's done, I'd prefer to pass on copyright to the GM, for a significant payment in AT. :)
My guess is that he could then make the app available for free, to help promote the game.

An Android app would be awesome. I have an android phone myself. Plus it's open source and I believe they are making tools to make it easy enough for even non programmers to make their own apps. Good luck. I would make a thread that announces that you are doing this, perhaps you will find some others that can help you that have experience with android. Thanks in advance!

Bad news. The GM's response:
"I appreciate the thought behind such an endeavour, but at this time it's
not possible for me to allow or support any development of Sryth-related
applications or extensions outside of the game.
I do very much appreciate the sentiment, though, and it's nice to hear
from you. I hope everything is going well!"
Without the GM's support the App will be completely impractical. It would actually need a significant amount of support from the GM, as the app would need an API set up to communicate with the Sryth website.

Disappointing. I think that's a bit shortsighted of the GM. He didn't really say why.

My guess would be probably...
Copy write issues
Time (both with setup and away from game creation)
Just a guess.....

It might even be copyright issues (lol).
Also trademark issues, licensing issues, etc. Still, it was a good idea and I have a feeling the GM will be in the market for some apps within the next year or so.

Yeah, Tex, give him a break!!!!! (Bet you anything that's the wrong word. I hate homophones more than spellcheck!!!!)
I know how hard it is to spell correctly if you're tired. It's nigh on imposable for me, so someone who actually knows how to spell probably spells like me when I'm paying attention to my spelling if they're tired.

It's a legal term - couldn't let that spelling error go without correction (lol).

Doh, I was hoping for some mobile app for Sryth too. Or like I said, a mobile web version that is just re-arranging the GUI. Probably much easier to implement and maintain too. Soon, things like netbooks/iPads/etc. will be as common as browser phones.

You actually got the right one, surprise! :D
Are homophones what we called homonyms when I was in school? Words that sound the same but have different meanings, like brake/break or there/their/they're? If so, I wonder when the name got changed and why...

I was curious about that too, so I looked it up. Homonyms are words which have the same spelling and the same pronunciation but different meanings - eg 'bear' meaning 'to carry' and 'bear' meaning large furry carnivore with well-known bathroom habits. Homophones are words which sound the same but have different meanings. They can be homonyms as well as homophones, or else they can have different spellings. eg break/brake.

Thanks for the "lesson" as I was wondering about that as well. And re: bears bathroom habits. I take it the UK and maybe Russia has some of the same commercials (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=styCsH87qqw) we do here. And gotta pass along this one (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Li93Xx7tKc) that I stumbled across.

Try saying that по-Руский ;)
Russian grammar is nearly imposable. Same with spelling. Agreed, Dooli?

'Impossible' is stretching it a bit, but it's certainly challenging. I'm doing verbs of motion at the moment. Only those who have ever attempted Russian verbs of motion will have the slightest idea of the trauma... ;)

Interesting! Either I'd forgotten that homonyms have to have the same spelling, or I was never taught that in school. I don't remember ever hearing the term homophones before. Thanks for the illumination. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v735/Old_Ned/icon_cool.gif

Indeed you were. I thought you were probably were, actually, because it's been over 30 years since I learned grammar in school and you're learning it right now. Have a little more self-confidence!

I'm learning grammar? I didn't know that. I'll have to tell my mom...

Should I change the title of this thread to "How a perfectly good introduction & question was changed into a maddening off-topic ramble"? :p
By the way, belated welcome to the forum, adlostman. If you play like me (what is from time to time) you're almost guaranteed to never finish the game! (as in "finish" = "get current with updates"). Sryth has this peculiar thing when you can play at your leisure, but you end up doing it so leisurely that you get behind (says the lazy adventurer who hadn't saved his main character in almost two months). You certainly have to put some effort and time to explore everything and get current. I've been here for more than two years now and it's impressive how much the content has expanded during this time.

I suppose he is saying that maybe it should be in "Random Chat" instead of a topic specific thread.
I can see where I could be a pain for someone looking for information later, having to wade through an off topic conversation.
