View Full Version : Non-AG The Creyn Blade, best weapon overall or just best slashing?

As title, is The Creyn Blade in Non-AG the BEST weapon overall, or just the best slashing weapon? I really want to know if it the BEST weapon overall, I will not pick up any specific weapon skill other than weapon:slashing.

Thanks.

Last I checked, it was indeed the best weapon overall for Non-AG.

While on that note, I have not seen any reason for a Non-AG to level any weaponry skill apart from slashing, because the only other comparable weapon (the Hale Blade) is also slashing.

Ditto to what ZM said. It's debatable which is better for a non AG between the Hale Blade which can heal and gives a SP boost. Or the Creyn which has a slightly better MR boost but a more significant one against Undead.

But since they're both Slashing weapons that's the only weaponry sub skill that a non AG should use general xp on in my opinion.

I agree with Oldschool. Only use general xp on Slashing skill if u are a non AG player because the only 2 good weapons for them require it.

I still use the Hale Blade a lot when grinding with the alts, in the Battlegrounds or running single run stuff with a lot of combat like Redwarren. Saves both time and NR.

Personally even as a non AG I'd still get the other subs despite their cost. You never know when a good/better non slashing weapon may appear even for a non AG or when content like Thofyra's (sp?) might change making them more "expensive" or even non available for non AG.

After all who'd have thought the startups would be removed, albeit temporarily, or that Thaoni would be changed.

Yeah, maybe I can consider picking up all those specific weapon skills now. I have stacked about 11K General Experience, so a few 128 XP given away won't hurt.

Thanks all above.

PS - I bought Hale Blade too. However, unlike Oldschool, I feel Creyn Blade a more handy weapon in BoneHorde Challenges, purely because it lowers the enemies MR and give me much better chance to hit. Even when the initial fight button appears Violet or Yellow, I could still hit at 7+ or 8+, that's awesome benefit Hale Blade doesn't have. Or, maybe Oldschool is talking about another AG challenge in the battlegrounds.

I use the Hale Blade in the Bone Horde Challenge for as long as the enemies remain 3+ or 4+. That way I minimise the likelihood of having to use any Restoration. Then I switch to the weapon that gives me the best MR. I think it's this sort of strategy that Oldschool was probably talking about.

Bingo - thanks Dooli. I should've been a little clearer in that post Voncritic.

And most AG'ers probably know this but a few may not.

Normally the best weapon if you're only carrying "free" ones from content for Undead including the BHC is Trielra's Staff not the SS/Iakor's weapons.

Keep in mind your Slashing and Staves subskills may make a difference but it's usually not enough to offset the extra scaled bonus of Trielra's. Also most folks probably have the weapon bonus (+2 MR) from 7 Goblins on their SSweapon.

Without the subskill/Altar of Malice bonuses.

Trielra's - +32 MR (with +12 Undead scaled bonus).

SS/Iakor's - +24MR (with +2 Tarn bonus).

For some reason every time I beat Creyn I never get the creyn blade. NEVER! I'm not sure if I have to go to those ghoul halls or not. Help please?

You only get it if you get 250 or more gold at the very end. It takes a LOT of retries.

What you need to do is go back and save once you disarm the trap at the arch. If you don't get the 250 gp needed to get the Creyn Blade, then just reload and you can start from the arch again.

I was lucky and got it on my fourth try without doing this trick, but saving just before passing through the arch will save you a lot of trouble.

Scout ran Axepath for months before getting the blade.

I didn't join the forum for 3 months after starting Sryth so I didn't even know about it. It was still a couple months after that.

Lucky. It took me a year and a half to get it and I was running axepath non-stop.

Oh and welcome to the forum FireTalon24. Always nice to see new people joining the forums.

I got the Creyn Blade technically on my second(Or third) time, but forgot to click it in order to pick it up (I was still a noob back then) And so I emailed the GM and he gave it to me. One of the many reasons I love the GM :D

@ voncritic: Don't forget about Unarmed Combat. Edanust uses Unarmed unless it's an opponent that is resistant to mundane weapons. Then I use either Hale or Creyn or Magic.

@ FireTalon24: Welcome to the Forum! Like others have suggested, save after doing the arch and retry. Unless you get really good loot.
