Ah, step back, slap a door frame silly, and let go of it - happens to all.

At least - I hope - you did not encounter the Ghost Lady, and lost that too (I allowed it to happen to me; also: being killed after getting a Blood Bowl gem and clearing all the traps for that nice bonus!... anbd so, losing it all, and the time, and having to wait for the next round a couple of hours).

Have a cookie - won't make up for the loss, and won't clear the frustration, but have it anyway. :)

Gah! Just got this....

A long and careful study of the book reveals several fascinating and enlightening passages on the magical discipline of destruction.

The invaluable knowledge you've managed to glean from your perusal of the book has served to help you improve your mastery of the mystical art.

XP +2,048 You've been awarded a total of 2,048 Experience...
2,048 xp applied to Destruction...

After having completed your examination of the book, you return it to its proper place in your library.

The final sentence should read....

After having completed your examination of the book, you throw it to the floor stamping up and down on it whilst screaming 'Oh hateful Library, why do you mock me so with your cruel ironic reward for my already Legendary Power?'.

At least it should? add to your quickstone bonus. Not much but it's [hopefully] something.

All right. At this point maybe the levelling can't be extended until a satisfactory balancing solution is found, but:

[note to self - as well as others, to be kept in mind as future suggestion]

specific XP awarded to a skill or power already at legendary level should be converted into general XP.

I'd have given you a consolation rep, BC, but it's your fault, that one, for maxing out that power at the cost of general XP, just to have it so. ;)

(Kidding - kinda! :D

Seriously: this guy is still on my ar.. tail:

Heh... pretty much gave up on CHR... In an entire year, it gave me one (1!) decent AS&P reward, and one (1!) passable and useful other, to Shadow Magic, which I needed at he time (128 or 256 XP, I think).

Actually, 'gave up' is false: I go there, slap him around, roll the dice dutifully, quick-fight is ugly undead 'gift,' and move past within one minute with my 32-64 gen. XP or 64 XP to Seamanship, Troll-Bont, Conjuration, or other such useful skill or power. Pffft... it's slightly quicker than the Bat Cave... :)

I'm trying to get the Glittering Ice Shield when I wanna go unarmed or fight with my sword. (Right now, Tzal-Thoath (w/ its pendant) is actually providing more MR than fighting unarmed, all my other weapons end up dropping my MR like a rock.)

You're working towards the Ice Shield? How many days left? Or are you still on those 7 obligatory dates with CHR? :) Oh, the Ice Cave's a test of patience (and a good alarm clock?) with its 24-hour reset timer... 36 days often become 2-3 months...

The scenario is scaled, so MR is less important than SP and NvR. Whatever gives you the best SP and NvR combo is better for the Ice Cave.

Welcome to The Mad....

Level 17....

I know theres an easier way but I thought 'How tough can it be?'.
The answer was very tough.

Round 915 You've Rolled 1 Attack: Defensive
The Hale Blade shimmers as its edge streaks towards your foe
@ Enemy loses 0
The mechanical goblin clatters forward and attacks
@ You lose 5
Your Status: Near Death (10%)
Enemy Status: Heavily Wounded (54%)

At this point I turned tail and had to flee for my life.:(

The Enchantment of Mettle helped you avoid 14 rolls of 1.
The Enchantment of Mettle did you a fat lot of good.
The Enchantment of Devastation helped you score 25 rolls of 20.
The Enchantment of Devestation was as effective as attacking a griffon with a balloon.

You train and train hard to defeat htis one particular quest with 19 poerful enemies that get stronger on after another in a row, and finally defeat the 19th one after over nine-thousand tries, and then there is a boss. Who kills you (who have used all your NR for healing AND Quickheals as well) in one turn do to his special being double of the other specials and his MR being so high you feel like you are staring in the jaws of death?

I sent the GM another message, yeah. I've been sending a lot of those lately, I hope I'm not annoying him. :) It's mostly been game comments/feedback, though (like pointing out that Braggart's Tale is listed under Griffon's Ledge but Rhaknar's Mad is not). Happens.

I would like to know if we will ever be able to change weapons after combat is joined?

More than once, especially lately, Scout has walked into battle unarmed only to remember that no matter how hard he hits, it won't do any good against this particular opponent.

Some of the rewards are lowered because of the use of magic, for example the CHR's parting gift.

It really sucks that he can't draw his sword/axe/staff/dagger or what ever after the fight begins forcing the use of magic and the loss of XP.

IF my presence/posting drops off for a short bit here's why........

Don't you hate it when you're doing domestic chores (off with wife at work) and are changing razor blades in the scraper to clean the glass top range when :eek:UCH right through the end of the old index finger of my right hand (I'm right handed btw).

It wouldn't stay closes so a trip to the ER, 8 stitches and a tetanus shot later I'm back (just sliced through the fingertip sorta from the tip down at a 45 'bout halfway to the first knuckle so it could've been much worse). And the old Lidocane? into the fingertip x2 hurt worse than the slicing but once it kicked in :Dhhhhhhh, felt like Doc was holding and scrubbing a stick or a carrot and looked like he was staining some woodwork, lol. :)

Seems I overlooked some of Dooli's other good advice. That of housework being overrated. ;)

I knew operating a mouse would be impacted so no spamming in mps and more restricted/limited play. Btw, now I've got a different perspective re: the FoB not being interactive. :) Thought typing might be affected some but not this much.

I'm fine but I'm guessing my foruming and gaming will slow in the meantime, maybe the tip will toughen up in a few.

Anyhoo, go back in two days to check it and stitches out in ten.

EDIT: Reminds me of another time in that ER after I mashed the end of another finger with a BAFH (Big Ass Framing Hammer ;)). It swelled to the point of splitting so I tried the ole home redneck remedy of running a hot pin through the fingernail with no success and more than once. Ending up going to the ER and a young doc (intern/resident probably) asked the nurse for a thingamajig from the....... all I heard was....... VASECTOMY kit.

Talk about a Whiskey Tango Foxtr:eek:t.......

Seems the device/tool is basically a soldering iron that burns through and cauterizes the delivery tubes of the nether region. Yep the trained doctor used it in a high tech redneck move burning some relief holes in the fingernail - go figure.

OS, I think I can only top that injury in one way.

Me and my BF were goofing around in the kitchen while I was cooking that day. (The kitchen in question was large enough for us to get away with it.) We decided to go Star Wars-style, grabbing the first thing our hands landed on. I had a spatula, his hand landed on the handle of a kitchen knife.

Normally, I would have told him to pick something else, but I obviously wasn't thinking right this day. I used the spatula to block the blade from coming down on me so I could take the blade out of his hand. I grabbed the top of the handle, right under the blade. Unfortunately, I spooked him and he backed up.

Guess how the blade moved when he did that? Blade went down, slicing my left hand deep between the thumb and index finger.

What was screwed up was the fact that I didn't even notice it happened until he started panicking and pointed it out. Thank god I cleaned the utensils and sink out earlier that day. Also, despite the fact that I was the one that was sliced, I was the calmer one of the two. I wasn't panicked at all.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*shouts out a series of swears that shall not be repeated here*
Why didn't I get the hell out of there after I got the Finger of Dread?! I got cheap-shot-killed by Xarrak's (sp?) special ability.... >_<* I even got an onyx band, too!
Sorry about that.
Keep seeing posts like yours, though.
'Got the Creyn Blade, didn't exit, didn't save, lost it,' was the most recent, from Terran.
'Got a great Talisman roll, didn't save, lost it.' - etc.
No matter how well it seems to be going, or how engrossed in it you are: you find a sought-after item, rare, or especially unique, especially if the random number generator is involved - find the nearest safe hole, and save.
Don't worry, though, you'll get it. Everyone I've seen mentioning the FoD says it, and the rings are easy items to gather (unlike the Creyn - that one can drive you near-insane when trying to get it for more than one character at the same time; 50 tries it might take, or more, just for three). I say the same (got all three items in one run, and the three rings in the same, or the very next).
===
The Jedi kitchen light sabre knife... Um... I'm wasn't gonna say it at first... Someone older and wiser, and cut fewer times than I, ideally, should say things like:
don't play with them! And don't run with scissors either! You'll put yer eyes out!...
Especially if you're jumpy - if anyone's the jumpy type! Geez...
Sorry, had to say it - you asked for it, with that post, don't blame me! ;-)
Well, joke aside: accidents happen
(Heh... I know they do, and should; my quick and dirty remedies are: iodised table salt heaped on the wound to stop the flow, frowned-upon hydrogen peroxide to further disinfect later while drying te wound; meh, works for me, always did since I was about 6 years old - older cousin taught me... :-)).
Don't make them happen! (Be careful.)
Double-post, but this is a big pain in the tail.
I start my last Mirror of Gating run on February 17th at roughly 11:55pm and save at 12:01am February 18th. I had completed my three Mirror runs, three Library rolls, and improved two items.
Guess what my game now thinks I've done in the span of a minute? For Feb 18th, I have 1 more upgrade left and no runs left with the Library or the Mirror.
Yes, I already reported this bug.
Tetracapillactomist
02-18-2012, 02:51 PM
Heh, that happened to me a few times... Probably will again, in the future.
(I have no time, or am not in the mood, then I change my mind, race through everything - without 'wasting time' to stop and save once in a while - then... *splat* I go when the server clock beats me to the finish line... Sometimes I do a last-minutes crunch of replayables for the sake of the QS XP bonus, and I'm caught out by the server clock.)
And I suspect that's how at least some players miss their daily CHR runs, which then plops you back to "0" - next visit, number reads "1" - welcome to the first square of the board... :)
Thing is, that's arguably not really a bug, since things are only recorded onto the server's drives when you save...
(Well, most things... almost all, PG performance/deaths, damage inflicted to MP bosses by anyone, CHR runs and a few other replayables/'revisitables' are saved automatically, for their own reasons.)
Remember, when you purchase residential upgrades, the game warns you to save? And it won't allow you to upgrade the ones purchased till you do?...
He could change it, I suppose, for purchased upgrades to save automatically, but then...
...every time the game auto-saves for you, you lose the option of changing your mind, wiping the slate clean, restarting fresh...
So... ups and downs, 'pros and contras' ... The two sides of the coin.
(As long as it's an endlessly replayable thing, I don't let it bother me.)
Tesability
Yes!!!
And although it's not specifically limited to it I'm specifically thinking of the Cave of the Ice Troll when going for the Ice Shield. Like most stuff that one gets better as your SP/NR increases. But if you start Moonpath early as you realistically can run it successfully it happens quite often.
And a little tip for folks in the same predicament in the Ice Cave. If you flee from any of the foes EXCEPT the Ice Troll you'll flee to the mouth of the cave (maybe to the rest point I can't recall which) and save some time/clicking.
But do NOT flee from the Ice Troll or you'll activate the timer and won't get a reward. You can still run it from a previous save as long as don't save after you reset the timer. But you'll have to start over and lose any progress in the cave and after that save point.
Speaking of those darn frozen brigands, do they always disappear after you've gone through all of the required encounter (but haven't gone after the Ice Troll)? Of have I just been "lucky"?
It's just the GM's way of reminding you to get some exercise (lol).
...
Hmm. I don't know whether I should laugh, or start looking for a stick to beat you with.
Do you have a preference? :p
There are wandering brigands (can't recall if it's a set number) and there are location specific brigands and the ogre.
The specific foes clear when you kill them. The wanderers either continue until you encounter and defeat the Ice Troll or if there are a set number of them (I think there is a set number btw) once you defeat them all.
Of course if there is a set number you don't have to defeat all of the wandering foes to encounter the Ice Troll you just need to get to him.
Also iirc you can check the door and get just the key that is needed bypassing the other key holders. But the combat xp is good imo and the key bug may (can't recall as I always get all the keys) nix that strategy at times.
You can flee during combat from any but the Ice Troll itself and go back to the entrance saving you one trip. You then have to return and the foe you fled from will still be there if it's location specific. Also if there are wanderers remaining you may encounter them on your return trip as well.
I still remember having to retreat back and heal more than once early on during those runs. :(
The wandering foes are indeed limited - there are 5 of them. (After a few hundred runs, counting them off each time, I am 100% positive.)
And the way I always dealt with them is by forcing the five wandering encounters before I attacked the first stationary foe, located in the corner of the first turn. That way, if you have a green character low on stamina points, the exit and its healing safety is close - and if you need to backtrack later, wounded and out of NV, you needn't worry about encountering and being slain by a remaining wandering foe while you're desperately trying to get to the entrance, to rest and heal.
And yes, for a newer, less powerful character there can be a lot of backtracking and healing, NV-pool refilling in those Ice Caves...
(Later on you can breeze through, collecting brigand-flavoured meat ice lollies / popsicles... :D)
Ya know the assassins that keep showing up after you get the Quickstone?
I haven't been hit by one yet, but I've been seeing them a LOT lately. Am I the only one on this?
That assassin shows up in the bazaar at Graldok. I still get him occasionally when I go to sell equipment. I may have died once a good time ago; but I cannot be sure.
I've seen him outside of that city once, can't remember where, though...
I see him again, there's gonna be a 'behind-the-scenes' fight...
He can be encountered in Talinus, too (I think it was in the Harbor). I think I've encountered him in a third location, too, but I can't remember where (it's been a long time).
Thanks for the info about the Cave of the Ice Troll, guys. I was beginning to think I was crazy. ;)
Also, don't you hate it when you begin a quest... and you begin the very first battle... and then realize that your character is absolutely wearing the wrong gear? :rolleyes:
Yep in Talinus's Harbor as I forgot about that one during AAM and got excited when I got it till I finally :rolleyes: realized that it wasn't new.
Yep thanks to your heads up (btw, have a cookie [rep] while they're fresh :) ) and I next went to Talinus and apparently that part hasn't been put into play yet. I thought I got it when I explored the Harbour area as the Quickstone Assassin attacked - I'd forgot about him/her appearing outside of Graldok as it's been a long time since I've run into him/her outside of Graldok.
Nice piece (1 of 3) to an item folks.
Also I've edited the thread title a bit and it may need more editing as this progresses.
And according to the wiki the other location (or one of them?) is Trithik (spoiler potential ahead), http://sryth.wikia.com/wiki/Quickstone#Assassin
EDIT: Ninja'd by Kadri ;) Or as Scout said recently you enter a your weapon is ineffective against this enemy combat unarmed. Or you don't realize you forgot the Fogbough boosts, Hale Blade or your Ice Shield is melting AFTER you've tripped the Battleground timers.
Or when you put all your best NV equipment on and start a Battleground Challenge, only to realise that visiting The Encampment to fill your NV pool via the Quickstone auto-rest completely slipped your mind.
This hasn't happened to me for a while though, thankfully.
I believe I encountered a QS assassin once at the Iron Claw market in Talinus. We just see them most often at Graldok because after a certain point, the only time we go to a market is to sell loot, and the only places we go are the Mirgspil market, the Graldok bazaar, and occasionally Gryphook's shop in Tryndmoor... and the QS assassins don't hang out in Mirgspil or Tryndmoor.
(I have no recollection why I was at the Iron Claw that time -- checking out something I found in the wiki, perhaps.)
Don't you hate it when you're trying to finish one last scenario before bedtime, and you've almost killed the LAST [insert enemy type here] when you suddenly start rolling really low numbers and die?
Yeah.
Better than...
Don't you hate it when (the other side edge of that same coin): rolling highs, they still make you go SPLAT with some uncanny special attacks.
... but not by much :\
Another day, another mouthful of dust - that's how we earn our medals... :-)
Thankfully I only lost two tar blobs and one BM this time.
