I got killed by Togg Bloodmark . First time I get killed on the Lords of Ogredom challenge. Worse, he was just ONE hit away from dying himself, BUT I rolled a 1 AND he hgit me with a special for over 20 damage. The combined damage was enough to kill me instead. :(

Ouch, Thingirl. If there's one thing I've learned about The Finger, it's never to use it if I'm anywhere under 25% of my total sp (I've also fallen victim to a situation much like yours). In fact, I rarely use it at all... only as a means to score some early damage against opponents with high sp.

I think that I have died four times in Ogredom, now. The last time was today right after a Tarn run, where I got the third orb. Brainiac here did not save it after going to Fang Ridge, so I had to redo the second level of Tarn, fortunately, I got an orb on the first redo. Now, the bad news is that my Fang Ridge reward went from 384 the first time to 256 the second time.

Ooooh yeah, had that same thing happen against one of those armoured trolls he set against me. Syrina's only damage-dealing power is gating. Fortunately, she'd recently levelled it up to 60, so it saved her hide. A sorry plight, though, for any who do not also have a power since you can't flee those fights.

When you use a bunch of NV in the Battegrounds to heal yourself, then get a healing orb on the very next level.
This is why I tend to do the Battlegrounds at ~100 SP rather than healing to max (which is 160+ for all my guys), except at the highest levels.

OR when you go to use Shadow Magic or some other applicable power in the LoO challenge in Zumryn's to dodge whatever it is they throw (I forgot) but instead use Restoration which does absolutely nothing and wastes NV.
Also, when you complete Tarn (and clear out every building) and get a blue orb, then you use the orbs since you have all 3, then level up a skill more times than intended which taps into your general exp, so you reload only to discover that you saved right before you started Tarn. Fml.

Aahhh, that makes me think about Ashlyre's tree discussion on the old forum especially due to my "red herring paranoia". ;) I'd be lying if I said I recalled the exact text, suprisingly enough a bit of googling paid off. Ditto to what Young Ned said on both the fond memories and the rep.
The trees of the forest are large hardwood oak and maple, with an occasional grove of pine or spruce. There is quite a bit of undergrowth, largely birch and ash saplings plus nondescript bushes of various sorts. This time of year visibility is quite restricted by all the leaves, but travel is quite easy if you detour around the spruce and berry bushes.

Figured I'd paste the above and delete the original post and add it to the beginning of this one so I can retain some semblance of another vow not to go off topic as much. Now that that's been done even if via loophole.......

Noting the distress that Fiddlot currently seems to be experiencing, you instruct him to remain here while you head off in search of his wayward horse.
He thanks you and tells you that if you can find Whisper, she will come to the sound of her name. You nod and set off at once in search of the missing animal.
You realize that it won't be easy to find Whisper in the misty wood, particular in such a boggy region, but you resolve to make a valiant effort...

Fiddlot thanks you for having gone to such great lengths to attempt to locate Whisper, and he tells you that there is little hope she will be found. He says that he will abandon the search and make his way out of the forest.
With no desire to send him off on his own, you lead the dejected man out of Fogbough and directly to the gates of Ashlyre. When he is safely within the fortified town, you return to the forest to resume your exploration.

Even Legendary archers can fumble occasionally. You might have an inadvertent muscle spasm (especially after fighting all those frozen brigands before you get to the ice troll -- your muscles must be pretty sore after all that!), or your fingers might be so stiff from the cold that they slip off the string before you've finished aiming...
Accidents happen. I think D&D used to have a 5% chance of fumbling any attack, even if your chance of success was supposedly 100%. (And 5%, through no coincidence, is exactly the chance of rolling a 1 on a 20-sided die...)

D&D V3.5, which is the last version I played, any roll of a 1 on a d20 was an automatic fumble. Then as now it is amazing how many 1's show up. It's just my luck that on the only daily archery shot I attempt that I would fumble.

Well since I may qualify as one of the "freaks".... ;):p:D
Outside of hoarding a sizeable amount for leveling items - like you mention it is pretty much a matter of personal preference.
I like the idea of being able to blitz level a skill or power if it may be needed for an adventure, even though there are very few cases of that being the case especially once AS&P are at 80/70. Also, I'm still holding off on the latest PG till it's done so that's one reason. With that said I've probably got some to spare, especially with Hawk.
Reasons, sm'easons..... I just like to hold onto it. :D

I suppose I qualify as one of those "freaks". Obviously the game is all about building your character. What would be the point to spending every xp point earned and rushing your character to the max levels? To me that would take alot of the enjoyment of the new adventures / rewards out of play. I guess you could reference Havoc at this point. I know that he will be back but what does he do with Magical now? Add Joddelle to that list. They have achieved everything possible in the game as of now. I plan to continue to build my characters using specific xp even if it leaves me with 10 or more million gen xp when they are maxed out.

Yup! Everyone plays the game that way he or she wants to. Some prefer to rely on specific xp; while others spend their general xp freely.
With reference to the "end game" after reaching lvl 100, I'd like to point to one of my not so favorite games: Runescape. All top players reach lvl 99 and keep hoarding millions of xp to remain on top of the rankings. But in that game, one with lvl 99 + 1 xp is effectively on the same footing with someone with lvl 99 + 100 million xp. But the players continue to play the game due to new content and their "addiction" to the game.

Not everyone in Runescape plays the game to reach lvl 99. Most, in fact, don't have that as a major goal (though it's still extremely desirable).

True; but I was referring to the top, end of the line level in any skill in that game, in relation to Racey's point. I have a RS account with top lvl at 78. But I haven't touched that account in a long, long time.

Very interesting viewpoints on grinding--Elrond, Oldschool, and Racey.
I used to be quite a grinder before my haitus. All that has changed a bit--I'm not in a rush to max everything out like Havoc or Joddelle. As has been brought up--what next after level 100 in every skill/power? There's the congratulations and the pat on the back, but the game itself doesn't give you any "cake" for maxing every skill/power.
Around level 70-80 in AS&P is good enough to do most of the top-level adventures in Sryth anyway. I suppose I would tend to do more as Oldschool does--save general exp and spend it accordingly, or if I feel like it. I do not have an impressive stash of general exp. I'm only at ~430k (on Altaria), and have spent some here and there to bump up a skill or power at my discretion.

After getting Weponry and Weponry:Slashing to level 100 and watching XP keep rolling in for them, I wish that I would have stopped at level 99 and used the General for other skills and powers.
Admittantly, the rush I felt seeing a couple skills at #1 along with some of the greats of the game was awesome, but short lived.
That XP would have been better spent equally leveling my powers since they are the hardest to raise. Thats why my Weponry:Bashing is still at level 99 even though it could be level 100 right now.

That is exactly what I did with Joddelle. I leveled all Powers except Gating together from 70 up to 100. Gating I used only specific XP and it still beat the other powers to 100 by a wide margin.
After getting all Powers to 99, I went back and leveled all Skills (except Weaponry: Polearms) up to 100. By that time the Powers were at 100 too.
I also used the monk-lady at the Moonshore Crossroads to level Weaponry: Slashing up from 94 to 99.

. . . you get to Tallys' and pick out an outfit only to discover that one part does not have a match... like the boots or belt? Worst still is when the armor matches but the Cape and Tabard does not. . . . Tallys really needs to hire a fashion consultant, and soon!

Actually I don't remember who to give credit to but I like the idea of buying matched standard or Tallys's armour for both flavor and the logical extra MR/SP that would be associated with a custom/matched set of armour (even if we wouldn't see an actual increase in MR or SP).

Ouch..... I don't mean to rub salt in the wound(s) but considering your "roll" and the award, while probably not the uber fragment variety I'd say it wasn't the most common garden variety either.
