View Full Version : Exploring the Old North Wood...

A page from the journal of the Adventurer Gretten Bengaard:
"....Day 128: After more attempts than I can count at locating the Ring of Stones, I have all but given up. The silence of the forest is beginning to get to me (most of my explorations meet with nothing "of particular significance"). I started building a miniature sandbox for my pouch of black sand. In recent days, I have begun talking to myself in sing-song rhymes with a Ryorsillian accent. At times, I giggle out loud at the prospect of running naked into the wild and singing to the trees. The rare encounters with barkback beetles provide my only source of company. They usually cast sympathetic glances my way before trying to bite my ankles off. I have interrogated the tri-jaws to no avail and the cave goblins, usually an aggressive, nasty bunch, now avoid me altogether. My hair, once thick and dark is falling out. But I must press on. That cursed Ring of Stones must around here somewhere!....."
OOC: Is this a glitch? I've searched the forums and noted that it once was, but has since been fixed. Can anyone confirm if this is so? For the sake of poor Gretten's mental health, help! :p

It was buggy but was fixed. While the announcement re: the fix said it should take a few tries to find it (paraphrasing from memory) I recall some folks having "trouble" finding it. Trouble being having to run a lot of explorations to randomly find it.
Good luck.

I suggest you email the GM if you're still having trouble. It's the easiest way to get some divine intervention (lol).

...I did submit an in-game report. I'll give it some time before sending the GM a whiny message.
I'll give Gretten a few more runs through the wood (although whether or not he is clothed will be up to the All-Father!)

Tip: save in Tarn and reload after spending each exploration cycle so you don't have to wait so long.

Alas.....
The GM informed me via e-mail that the quest had expired and that I would be unable to complete it. So there's about 257K in XP, 16 AT's and the Spectral Flame Ring down the drain. My ambitions for 1/2 a mil have now come to a drastic c-c-c-r-r-r-a-a-a-a-a-w-w-w-w-l-l-l
Oh well. You win some, you lose some.
Condolence reps, anyone? :D

I've got caught out by this one too. Rhia finished the whole thing ages ago, but I hadn't got the alts caught up - they're all in the middle of the black sand encounters - so they've missed out on the final rewards too. I'd foolishly assumed that as long as they'd started the AAM quest they'd be able to finish it :(

Oh, no!
I haven't finished it either.
Drats, and more than that. I don't think it's fair. I have characters "locked in" for other temporary seasonal quests for longer than that. Call me whiny if you want, but I'm going to plead to the GM
EDIT: Curiously, the stranger still waits for me in Mirgspil. Time to look and see, but if the expired part is the Old North Wood one...
EDIT2: I completed the Mirgspil part. I pleaded to the GM. Let's wait for his answer.
EDIT3: For Maressea and Rahenra, who were still at the Black Cubes part, the stranger doesn't show up. I'm afraid the GM just forgot to reset the woman encounter, so I'm doomed too.

A pious looking gentleman dressed in black Judge's robes departs from the aggreived soap-box announcers, whistling a song that sounds eerily like the tune, "Time Waits For No One"

Time indeed, waits for no one. It would've been nice, however, for Time to have made an announcement about the deadline to finish the quests so people wouldn't being wondering why they haven't encountered the next step (like exploring the Old North Wood for days, in my case) thinking that they just haven't gotten lucky enough or falsely concluding that there was a bug.
I too have written the GM (in a less "ranty" version of the above). Who knows, maybe a few more voices may change the status quo. If not, so be it. I suppose I can make up a meager 257K in XP with a few hundred more hours of grinding

I just heard back from the GM.
Hi, based on feedback from players (yours included, of course) I will be making the Adventurer Appreciation Month scenario available for completion for those characters that have already made progress in it.
It will become available again over the next few days and will be announced so players will know when they can continue it.
As always, all the best, and thanks again for the feedback.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

A big thanks to Lyrhc and anyone else who contributed to tipping the scales in favor for the continuation of this quest!

Glad to hear that - helms off to a fair and merciful GM. And kudos to Scarbrow, Lyrehc and anyone else who queried the GM.
Actually when this was first mentioned I was surprised as I thought that starting it locked in the adventure. Then I went back and reread the announcement about the starting deadline. Which doesn't actually say anything about locking it in although I also thought so.
9/27/10 - There's Still time!
Adventurers who haven't yet begun the Adventurer Appreciation Month scenarios may still do so, but only through tomorrow, Tuesday, September 28th.
To begin, check out the Adventure Finder to discover the location of a mysterious masked man.
Don't miss out on your chance to take part in these rewarding scenarios!
The special Adventurer Appreciation Month scenarios involving the masked stranger are available exclusively to Adventurers Guild members.
If you're not yet an Adventurers Guild member, upgrade your account today and start enjoying all that a Sryth™ premium membership has to offer!
Nice to see the GM give folks the benefit of the doubt.
Regardless if you benefit directly from this decison or not show your appreciation for the GM and his benevolence by Voting for Sryth by clicking my sig links.

Thanks for the reminder, OS (I was going to suggest myself as "MS" in the abbreviations section but do not deign to be a poster of significance such as yourself)
I haven't voted since before the holidays and have more reason than ever to(barring a reward system implementation :D ) Reps to you!
EDIT: ('Whoops' on the double-post. Thanks for catching that, TL. Reps)

...you're spending all your time double-posting instead of double-voting (lol).

LOL..... I hadn't noticed Tex. And if I had me saying something would've been the veritable pot calling the kettle black.

Yahoo!! Thrice blessed be the merciful GM!!
EDIT: However, I think I've run into a bug or two. Copy of my report:
Hi, and thank you very much for your generosity at continuing this event.
I think, however, I have run into one (or more) bugs.
My character Maressea was lacking at least one Black Stone Cube, and she had certainly not done the "An Engraved Rock" quest (http://sryth.wikia.com/wiki/Quest:An_Engraved_Rock), but now she has the Pouch of Black Sand on her inventory, and cannot see the woman in Mirgspil, or the Masked Man.
My character Rahenra was also lacking on several Black Stone Cubes. He is still lacking on them, but he can't see the masked stranger on the Adventure Finder.
As a confirmation that everything is already active, my character Krylinym has been able to both see in the Adventure Finder and interact with the dark-haired woman in Mirgspil, and now is just a matter of time that he encounters the ring of stones on the Old North Wood.
Thank you for your time and support.
