View Full Version : Traeltok's hand (arm) in friendship??-PG V-"The Eyes of Death"

Damn the lack of time and forethought (my own) for being stuck with a single active character!...:confused::mad:

I come upon this portion of the PG V during The Eyes of Death chapter and can't find any info on it, wiki- or forum-side...

Traeltok offers his arm while I'm adding data to three different text files for three different wiki pages - and also working on a missing map... and find myself obsessively gripped by it, unable to advance without knowing the outcome!... I rarely drink in real life (or within Sryth, for that matter - allusion meant for Young Ned and Oldschool, mostly;)), but I think I better find a glass and something soothing to weather this moment...:)

...a-ny-hooo... here's the "spoilered" game text, as reference and reminder...

+ 10702 +
"Perhaps now the futility of your fool's errand is made clear," he snarls. "Can you not see the result of defiance?"
He waves his hand and for a moment the cellar is flooded with bright, golden light. He smiles viciously as he watches your eyes dart in turn to the motionless bodies of your three companions -- Rynduil, Halanne, and Harrakyr. He waves his hand again and the golden light fades back to the dim, pale glow.
Traeltok steps forward and extends to you his arm.
"I will give you once chance," he says. "You can choose to defy me, and so shall this hole become your tomb . . . or . . . you can tame your wild pride and serve He to whom all you hold dearest ultimately and rightly belongs..."
Traeltok's arm remains extended toward you, giving you the chance to reach out and take hold of it, in acceptance of his offer.
Every one of your instincts rises up in alarm against it.
Refuse to take his hand...
Take Traeltok's hand...

...and the question: does anyone now the outcome, consequences (immediate or long-term), or anything - anything at all! - about any of this:

-what happens if you accept the offered "friendship"?
-similarly, what follows refusal of it?

As far as my tired eyes can see, there's not the faintest trail of smoke of a hint to be seen here, or on the wiki... [deep inhalation followed by big, rumbling sigh]

I'd love, and impatiently await (a) quick response(s) - in view of alluded-to "data-gathering" - but do not expect it... I can - and will be - grateful for any enlightenment, but (as always, and as is right) do not demand anything.

In the meantime I'll run some laps around the house, as our cats used to, when restless, nervous, "hyper"...

Thank all who take pity on this haplessly intrigued newbie gone mad, in advance!...

It goes without saying that - after having acquired the rudiments of the skill of "repping" - I will go around dispensing them (here and on other posts) to all who reply, till my fingers melt...:)

Apparently you have chosen a path no one else has chosen before (or at least no one who has added info to the wiki page). In that scenario your choices are:
* Go to Rynduil's aid...
* Attack Traeltok...
* Attempt to retrieve the Eye...

I chose the third one, and the above confrontation does not happen. Which one did you choose?

Right... important detail I forgot!

First option, to aid Rynduil... ever the Samaritan... (and no good deed goes unpunished, huh?...)

I'd still be surprised if no one ever tested it, but then it is high stakes PG...

Thanks for the quick reply for now, shadow! I'm still 'snapping pencils'...:)

TC I just happened to remember this since I recently looked at it when I linked it in another thread,

http://www.srythforum.com/showthread.php?p=10366&postcount=5

I'm searching both forums and will edit accordingly.

I've listed the search results which aren't that many and may be of varying help.

Interesting to read, especially the ones from the old forum when it was new and I'm guessing much more of a challenge due to player character MR/SP levels back then.

Interesting to note some of the familiar faces from this forum that have posts in the old forum link including a few aliases. A well known Theodril aka Elrond just to name two of a few of his monikers. And a not so well known stenchbad aka Badstench running a full stable leapfrog style no less. :) Not to mention posts from Mak, Paladin, Glowworm, Maghnosius and Blackcrowe.

Note: Search results post backwards on the new forum for me. Probably my settings but thought that worth mentioning for multiple posts in the same thread.

New/current forum, http://www.srythforum.com/search.php?searchid=107451

Old forum (you have to be registered which is still allowed to enter/view posts/etc...). Also I don't know why once I search the thread the link that displays is the main forum link but anyway, there is a clickable search link for searching the thread across the top bar of the thread's page. Click it, enter traeltok and make sure to click search in the box. Hitting enter doesn't work. Also there are only 21 results so the default 25 results is fine.

Oops in all the rigmarole with the old search engine I nearly forgot the link. :o

Here's the link for the PG on the old forum that'll need searched per the above, http://shadowwolf47.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=761

Edit: Fixed current forum search link. Maybe my mention of the traelok in this post buggered it up? Anyway if it gets fouled again just search traeltok on the current forum. Just remember to set view to posts and that should get it. And for some reason I double checked the old forum post and hitting enter works.

Edit2: Seems it get fouled everytime I log off even if I relink it. Maybe it's session specific or something?

Thanks, OS, I'll start wading, as I'm able, right now. It might take a while.
Couldn't rep - clearly my last one attached to your handle (uhmm... ah, yes, your 'palo haka' message!) was too recent, and I'm instructed by the 'Wiz of Oz' (of the Forum) to 'spread the joy' in a wider arc...

But first I need a break... I've been rummaging for so long now, that I'm starting to feel some pain settling into my head or my neck - not sure which... time for a palo infusion (espresso with 1/2 tsp of sugar...)

(I never yet wished so hard that I had the time and presence of mind required for a fully active roster with up-to-date, synchronised characters!... well, "it is what it is".)

edit: Sryth @ #6 & #9

edit #2: well, now Im told that I spread too much joy around in the course of the last 24 hrs: I can't rep at all...

edit #3: @ OS: right - so those threads and posts of the current forum are already familiar to me, but 'no cigar' in them; on to the defunct forum...

Well there is that benefit to a fully synched roster. I just wish I'd have taken notes during Alder Throne especially considering I ran each of them differently in regards to the various plot branches. Fortunately it's usually not an issue with most content. But considering the PGs and a lot of recent content has been multifaceted like Phak-Rur and Rhaknar's just to name a few you'd think I'd have taken to taking notes earlier.

At least my inability to recall specifics with the earlier levels of The Mad finally spurred me to doing so, hence the walkthroughs for Rhanknar's.

Btw I noticed your post and my last edit on my previous post went up at about the same time. So this might bear mentioning. My links were glitchy but have been fixed with an explanation as it might be due to new posts that include the search term.

Don't worry about the current forum's links, OS (although I'll mention in passing, that the second link does lead to a "Sorry - no matches." message), since I already checked those threads and posts before starting this new thread on the subject of PG V and Traeltok - it was my second step after the wiki (which I was already editing, as I went along... makes fights harder, because you can't 'spam-hack' when recording foe's SP, special attacks, XP, 'flee-count' and such:) - while also recording to a backup file, reporting on typos and related textual 'bumps and scrapes', working on maps, collecting hints... it can get hectic'n'hot in here, while "playing":))

Back to my point: I have to thank you again, because the link to the defunct forum (long may it live!;)) you included in your post seems to be this problem's "unified theory of the universe"! It was more than worth the effort of attentively reading the relevant posts and taking notes - in fact I may have collected enough material to completely (no, that's an absolute and it implies perfection - let's say mostly) plug the holes of the adventure's wiki 'coverage'. I'll cull the data and insert relevant new-found info where lacking, as soon as I can manage - and that wouldn't have been possible without your directions and the old forum's contributions by current and past players. Like I said, with the addition of data gathered following my own path and the various paths taken by the old forum's users to what is already there, all options might be covered by some essential information at least, enough for some essential guidance, for making an informed decision, and avoid being caught with your pants around the ankles... :)

(Judging by my sentences and paragraphs, I must be getting tired, but I don't physically feel it yet...)

As far as fully synchronized characters are concerned, that seems utterly out of my reach...

As for the taking of notes, that makes me think of Honest Abe Lincoln's statement about fooling the multitudes all of the time - I doubt there exists a single solitary player who has taken 'all of the notes from all of the pages'...:)
Then there's full combat data, check results and outcomes, limits and ranges, randomness, variables and the occasional 'binary insect'...
Considering all that, it's good that you started to take notes: you never know when you might find yourself the sole possessor of the only documented instance of something rare.

Right then - this post has to end... now.

Hooray! Tetracapillactomist, you're starting to become one of those players I like. Maniac note-taker, able to delay the completion of an adventure until you have full text on all options. I'm seeing myself. I can relate a lot, seriously.

Be welcome to join the illustrious ranks of the able and frantic note-takers, along with venerable Shadowblack, presently missing but always remembered Joddelle and Octarinemage, and of course myself, just to mention a few of the more prominent. Along with others, past and present, who join the effort from time to time to make Tysa alive in our minds and build the Tower on Anarain of game secrets...

TC, I noticed in your text excerpt that both Rynduil and Halanne were dead on the floor. If I'm recalling correctly, usually only one or the other is dead, because whichever one you help generally gets away. So I'm thinking that when you went to aid Rynduil, you must have failed a random test or something so that he died instead of getting away, and perhaps that's how you got into this branch that nobody else appears to remember.

Huh? Where does it say they are dead? Motionless does not equal dead...

Hold on, Young Ned, you made my heart skip a beat (less so than scout, with his sad announcement recently - my first impression was that he might be referring to a biological daughter, and for some time I couldn't read further, I froze in front of my monitor; then exhaled, once my eyes managed to read on: the loss of a companion animal is sad and touching, but the loss of a young daughter is horrific... sorry, I just decided to seek release from that minor trauma, albeit inferior to his).

Now to the matter of this adventure: I think you might be referring to a later episode of PG V, "The Master of Shadow" (wiki TOC #2.19), where the fateful decision is made to kill one of those two unfortunates. I, on the other hand, was referring to "The Eyes of Death" (wiki TOC #2.15, referenced as "PG V adventure #20" in the old forum), where you first encounter the "turned" version of Rynduil and Halanne lies motionless, but still alive on the floor. Later, due to Traeltok's attack, Rynduil lies also unconscious, still alive. In an earlier section of this episode of PG V, you are offered the following choices:
#1)- help Rynduil, collapsed at the base of the wall after having been hurled against it a moment earlier by Traeltok...
#2)- attack Traeltok...
#3)- go chasing after your "precious" - ;) - emerald, The Eye of Arngaror...

The 'spoilered' game text is a result of having chosen option #1 - helping your newly "reconverted" friend - which apparently leads to fighting the toughest Massive Shadow Beast (300, instead of 125-150 SP, with the similar-to-others 9@85-86 MR-rating) and a confrontation with a 'hale-and-hearty' Traeltok... which is were I "suspended proceedings".

@ Shadowblack: I just noticed your post too - you're spot on. (post-spot...:))
----
@ Scarbrow: that's a 'helluva' heartening message, thank you! (repped...:))

Aha. Yes, I was thinking of the later episode. It's been long enough since I did PG V that I'm getting vague on the details. My bad.

no problem at all - some scenarios or situations seem to mirror others, seem recurrent, and some elements or expressions become leitmotif after a while...:)

I still appreciate the input (hence, the reps), and if what you wrote would have been right, that would definitely have been an outcome (bug. likely) worth mentioning - and reporting to the GM.
So thank you, regardless of that misunderstanding, and whenever I'm lost for answers, I'll welcome your input, mistakes and all.

After all, you recall how wrong I was about palo (in spite of having read all the game text's hot-linked info boxes, including palo's, during my first days of Sryth), and I'd still have the wrong idea to this day, were it not for your posts. Not a matter of vital importance perhaps, but if people keep referring to things as they are not, it is only a matter of time before confusion reigns and all goes to hell entropy...;)
