View Full Version : Restoration outside combat

Restoration is most effective outside combat. However, even there, it often takes several rounds of restoration to get up to speed.

Suggestion:

At the update screen (where it tells you whether restoration succeeded and how many points you got), offer two options:

please continue
attempt another restoration

Yeah, I think that's a good idea.

Yes, that would be nice. In Tarn or the Battlegroungs, for example, I don't use Restro untill my QC cuts out, so I usually have a long way to go.

If the REST button could be linked to restoration outside of the SAFE area that would work for me.

Scout, if I'm reading your post correctly, then wouldn't that mean restoring NV too? Or do you mean a button that would do ever how many rounds Restoration you need to get you to max SP with one click, kind of like quick combat?

Instead of scrolling down the list, clicking on 'restoration' then clicking 'use', just click on the 'REST' button.

Since you are outside of a 'SAFE' area, it would only act like restoration and heal you with a cost to your NV.

A 'Hot' button that's already there and kinda labeled already.

That make seance. Corgrim and Scout are both repped, Corgrim for the Idea, and Scout for improving on it.

It would be useful, and I voted yes.

But -- there might be a reason he's got it set up the way he has: Ever notice in a labyrinth with wandering/random encounters that if you use Restoration, you have a chance of a random encounter even though you haven't moved anywhere (but the game thinks you have, because you're "moving" from the Restoration report screen to the maze navigation screen).

So, the above behavior might be intentional (and it is why I restore on the combat report screen when in random encounter areas -- when you return to that screen, you don't get random encounters).

Still, voted yes.

Well, it seems there's strong support for some simplification/efficiency in the restoration process, which I hope the author/developer will note.

I suggested the "Restore again?" link because it seemed easiest to fit into the existing structure, and because it would pretty much answer the need. I think the Save/Rest link is interesting, but might be trickier to implement.

I haven't really noticed a problem with chance encounters while restoring, honestly, and most chance encounters tend to be fairly minor disturbances, so long as I've had at least one restore.

In any case, it seems there's a constituency for some method of simplifying multiple restores. Thanks to all for input.

Agreed (as to the consensus), and for posterity, the most annoying place for that random encounter (before I'm done restoring) is in the Cave of the Ice Troll.

Still survivable (with Shadow Magic) but I get 1 xp instead of 7. *sniff*

the most annoying place for that random encounter (before I'm done restoring) is in the Cave of the Ice Troll.

If I don't misunderstand what you're talking about, the fastest way to solve this problem is to use restoration at the xp page (with "please continue") right after a battle (instead of using it when you're walking in the cave). This is also applicable in Tarn and other places with random enemies.

EDIT:Duh, I didn't notice that... too lazy to read the whole thread XD Thanks and have one also...

Yup, mentioned that in my first post (but I think I worded it differently).

Still, rep'd for the advice, since your wording made more sense than mine. :)

Is it possible, though, to streamline it further? Like, instead of having to cast it one after another, you can have an option to select how many castings you want, and go from there. So, say, if I want to cast Restoration five times, I'll select the spell, then how many times I want to conjure it--in this case, five--and cast away.

This may be a teensy bit off-topic, but if restorative items could also be given the "use another <restorative>" treatment, that'd be great.
