Ok. So here I am - back once again like a renegade master and all that.
Having been back less than 24 hours, frankly I'm a bit lost. In the last couple of years I've managed to forget a lot of things I should already know about the game and that devious swine Mr Yarrows appears to have compounded the problem by going to the trouble of inventing lots of new things to confuse me even further.
I'm sure I'll get to grips with it eventually, but so far my knowledge is so scant that even basic things are confusing my tiny mind. EG I can pop round for a game of craps with the CHR every morning without any trouble but if I fancy getting chilly with it on my xp rounds I cant remember for the life of me where the ice troll hangs out. Or I thought I'd show off my culinary skills by making barbecued Goblin with my Wand of Dragonfire and now I'm wondering whether its going to recharge itself or if I have to do something about it!
So far I havent really travelled outside Western or SW Tysa while I try and acclimatise myself Before I venture anywhere near the likes of Saarngard for example and finish the Alder Throne I could do with a hand.
Without giving away any huge spoilers can anyone correct my erratic knowledge and drop a few tantalising hints about whats been happening in the last couple of years and what I should be doing about it.
For starters heres a few questions but feel free to drop a few hints on any other subjects you may think will be interesting as well :)
Wand of Dragonfire - how many uses do you get and how/when does it recharge?
I got a Mark of Valour not long before I left. It was nice. I liked it. Can I get any more?
Who was the dodgy potion maker who was on the brink of developing his line of exciting wares at the time I left and where do I find him to see if hes made any progress (somewhere in Western Tysa perhaps?)
Have I missed any exciting Festival of Blades type stuff while I've been away?
After two years away my Quickstone still retains its blue-glow. Should I be doing anything about that in order to unlock strange and mysterious new powers perhaps?
Ezerok? Has he been causing mischief or is he suspiciously quiet these days waiting for us to forget about him before he returns to take our souls?
Although Ecthelions got large amounts of Gold, (well over the gold-cap thats been introduced since I left) Varsils going to be a bit skint upgrading his residence by the looks of it. Where are the best markets for selling equipment these days and wheres the best fences (if any)?
I've not been back long but it seems the Palk-fairies have gone to sleep and are no longer cluttering up my backpack with Wood Icons. Instead I find its starting to fill up with Aldvarian Artifacts and Battle Markers? Whats going on there?
Will it be advisable to check previously completed things to see if they have changed - I'm thinking melee ladder, Daidurs Mark etc but there could be other less obvious quests that have had a bit of a revamp perhaps?
Is there any particular new content that I should really be getting stuck into straight away in your opinion?
And my final question, as time-honoured tradition dictates in any quest for Sryth related knowledge-

WHERE THE HELL IS MY SWORD OF BLOODY MERZEKK?
Thanks in advance for any tips or pointers you can give. As a sign of gratitude Varsil is offering a special one year 50% discount on his Gold Service package to any and all contributors to this thread.
Gold Service package confers all of the benefits you have come to expect from the Silver Service package such as:
* 'Acquisition' of one guards uniform in your size from whichever city in Tysa you desire
* Up to 3 water-tight alibis per annum that you were at the Goblinclaw Inn in the company of Varsil Demonsoul on the night in question
* Immunity from pickpocketing and horsetheft by Mr Demonsoul for the duration of your membership
Plus-
Dry cleaning costs or 'acquisition' of like-for-like replacement item for any garment soiled by blood, vomit or other bodily fluid leaked from the person of Varsil Demonsoul upon said garment. (Many Service Package customers have found this upgrade to be worth in excess of 5000 gold tokens a year and worth considerably more than the the sum total of benefits in the Silver Service package).
Thank you guys - I await your responses.

Welcome back! :)
I'll answer a few of your questions:
Wand of Dragonfire - how many uses do you get and how/when does it recharge?
One use per hour (I think). To recharge: Just wait the required amount of time. Nothing else is required.
I got a Mark of Valour not long before I left. It was nice. I liked it. Can I get any more?
Sadly, no. That is still the only Mark in existence. :(
Who was the dodgy potion maker who was on the brink of developing his line of exciting wares at the time I left and where do I find him to see if hes made any progress (somewhere in Western Tysa perhaps?
He's in Mirgspil, and he has made NO progress. :( :(
Have I missed any exciting Festival of Blades type stuff while I've been away?
While there has been some limited-time stuff that you missed none of it was anything like the Festival.
After two years away my Quickstone still retains its blue-glow. Should I be doing anything about that in order to unlock strange and mysterious new powers perhaps?
All our Quickstones glow blue. Nothing we can do about it.
Ezerok? Has he been causing mischief or is he suspiciously quiet these days waiting for us to forget about him before he returns to take our souls?
Nothing. At least nothing that we are aware of. :(
Although Ecthelions got large amounts of Gold, (well over the gold-cap thats been introduced since I left) Varsils going to be a bit skint upgrading his residence by the looks of it. Where are the best markets for selling equipment these days and wheres the best fences (if any)?
The current best are the old best - no new shops (unless I'm forgetting something).
I've not been back long but it seems the Palk-fairies have gone to sleep and are no longer cluttering up my backpack with Wood Icons. Instead I find its starting to fill up with Aldvarian Artifacts and Battle Markers? Whats going on there?
The Icons are still around, they are just rare - as just as useless as always. As for the other two:
- Battle Markers were used in a few raffles (more details on the wiki) and can be used to pay part of the price for a certain Ring sold by a peddler whose location you can find from the Adventure Finder
- Aldvarian Artifacts can be sold to the library in Talinus for Battle Markers (commonly called BMs). You'll need to sell at least one artifact, as doing can (it's random) unlock a certain quest and related locations
Will it be advisable to check previously completed things to see if they have changed - I'm thinking melee ladder, Daidurs Mark etc but there could be other less obvious quests that have had a bit of a revamp perhaps?
Sure - at the worst you'll waste a few minutes.
Is there any particular new content that I should really be getting stuck into straight away in your opinion?
Hard to tell, since I'm not sure if certain things were added after you left. I'd recommend the creepy old man at the Goblinclaw, as that is a recent (read: this year) addition that allows a permanent increase of +1 MR and +1 SP but takes 11 days to complete (wiki page is here (http://sryth.wikia.com/wiki/Quest:The_Creepy_Old_Man)). Also, Fogbough and the Wolf Pelt items, if you don't have them yet. If you do have them, then some of the Phak-Rur encounters in order to gain access to the Circle of the Wolf...

Disclaimer: My sense of time is notoriously erratic, and I can't remember what state the world of Sryth was in when you left. I may therefore leave out essential information and bombard you with stuff you already know. (Call it Rhia's revenge for what all the times Varsil refused to stump up for his round... ;))
Innumerable uses, Just give it a little while, it'll re-juice itself in an hour or so.
I got a Mark of Valour not long before I left. It was nice. I liked it. Can I get any more?
No.
Who was the dodgy potion maker who was on the brink of developing his line of exciting wares at the time I left and where do I find him to see if hes made any progress (somewhere in Western Tysa perhaps?)
Ah, the chap in the tavern in Mirgspil. He presumably got stuck in the shed fiddling with his chemistry set, and while he was blowing things up a certain individual in Durnsig gazumped him. Go find her instead.
Have I missed any exciting Festival of Blades type stuff while I've been away?
Not really. Every so often Zumryn over at the Battlegrounds has a contest, though. That's a point - go to Westmere, near Barrow Loch in SE Tysa, if you haven't been before.
After two years away my Quickstone still retains its blue-glow. Should I be doing anything about that in order to unlock strange and mysterious new powers perhaps?
Poke about in the cellar at your residence. It's still a work in progress, though.
Ezerok? Has he been causing mischief or is he suspiciously quiet these days waiting for us to forget about him before he returns to take our souls?
The exact whereabouts of Ezerok are currently unknown. He seems to have been lying low for a while, though I believe it is still possible to have an unpleasant encounter if you rest manually.
Although Ecthelions got large amounts of Gold, (well over the gold-cap thats been introduced since I left) Varsils going to be a bit skint upgrading his residence by the looks of it. Where are the best markets for selling equipment these days and wheres the best fences (if any)?
Currently Mirgspil for anything which fetches 200 or less, Graldok for 250 to 850, and Tryndmoor after that. Having said that, there is this dodgy guy in the Owlnook tavern in northern Trithik, if you have a couple of ATs to spare now and again and want to shift some magical gear. Personally I can't be bothered.
I've not been back long but it seems the Palk-fairies have gone to sleep and are no longer cluttering up my backpack with Wood Icons. Instead I find its starting to fill up with Aldvarian Artifacts and Battle Markers? Whats going on there?
Well, the odd icon does pop up now and again, but they're as useless as ever. Instead we have a shiny new third currency: Battle Markers. Buying major stuff - such as a certain ring, if you stumble upon the camp of a certain peddler - often comes with currency options. Plus we've had a couple of raffles for Battle Markers (usually BMs round here). If you need some more at any point, have a wander into the library in Trithik.
Will it be advisable to check previously completed things to see if they have changed - I'm thinking melee ladder, Daidurs Mark etc but there could be other less obvious quests that have had a bit of a revamp perhaps?
This is where my sense of time is letting me down. There might be a couple of extra Daidrur levels since you were last around. No idea about the melee ladder. There was a one-off Axepath encounter that might be relevant.
Is there any particular new content that I should really be getting stuck into straight away in your opinion?
Depends what you're wanting to do first. The major story arc is Sarngaard and the Alder Throne. If you're looking to boost a few stats there are a couple of things which leap to mind: find that peddler for one. Fogbough. Definitely. Lots of Fogbough. And after Fogbough, have a wander round Phak-Rur (finally something to do in the NE). Oh, and then there's the Lords of Ogredom challenge in the Battlegrounds, which also leads to a handy boost.
And my final question, as time-honoured tradition dictates in any quest for Sryth related knowledge-
[...]
WHERE THE HELL IS MY SWORD OF BLOODY MERZEKK?
Well, yes, that's always the question. You can now get a bit further towards that elusive doyen of pointy things, though... ;)

Rhia would like to to thank you for the offer but she has her own contacts and would like to point out that she long ago learned to sidestep Varsil's involuntary efflusions. Jazz might be interested, though...

Regarding shops, anything valued 275 or less should be sold in Mirgspil. Anything valued up to 1500 should be sold in Graldok; and stuff valued up to 2500 should be sold in Tryndmoor.
Also, be sure to meet the roaming peddler to get a very nice ring. And there is a ton of free AT's in Fogbough and Phak Rur. Be sure to read up in the Wiki so as not to miss any prizes.
Re: potions, there is now Tarlaro in Durnsig. She sells potions every couple of weeks for AT's. But they give permanent boosts!
You mentioned something about a Sword of Merzekk! What Sword are you talking about? ;) That would be the Albatros around Mr. Yarrows neck!
Welcome back; and good luck!

Who was the dodgy potion maker who was on the brink of developing his line of exciting wares at the time I left and where do I find him to see if hes made any progress (somewhere in Western Tysa perhaps?)
Gilborn..... But as has been mentioned Tarlaro's offers potions every so often and you can only purchase them every x number of days. They have stat boots which can up your AS&P bonuses and a nice little thing called Battle Rage. Also if you happen to be holding the Elixir of Torrent the bug's been fixed and there's another way to permanently boost stats via one run content.
After two years away my Quickstone still retains its blue-glow. Should I be doing anything about that in order to unlock strange and mysterious new powers perhaps?
Ditto to what Dooli said - explore your basement/dungeon.
Ezerok? Has he been causing mischief or is he suspiciously quiet these days waiting for us to forget about him before he returns to take our souls?
Ezerok has underwent a tediously long vasectomy. In other words he was buggy and is supposed to be reintro'd once he was "fixed". ;) Since he's still gone one can only assume he's either still under the knife or recuperating. :)
Although Ecthelions got large amounts of Gold, (well over the gold-cap thats been introduced since I left) Varsils going to be a bit skint upgrading his residence by the looks of it. Where are the best markets for selling equipment these days and wheres the best fences (if any)?
Again, like Dooli said the Owlnook Tavern. It is a good place to unload unique items and you know to be careful with them so...... It costs a couple ATs to access it for a week I think. Also the prices change every so often. I took advantage of it with the alts since their grinding is limited, but if you're going to be grinding much with Varsil as I'm guessing you will I'd forego it. Also training costs have been removed.
Will it be advisable to check previously completed things to see if they have changed - I'm thinking melee ladder, Daidurs Mark etc but there could be other less obvious quests that have had a bit of a revamp perhaps?
Yeah Daidur's and the Melee Ladders got a bump after I started I just can't remember when in relation to your absence. Also go to the Griffon Ledge and custom order a Silvermark (maybe Silvermark Ale as the wording is specific but I think it's the former). Keep the "tip", it's on me. ;) Can't think of anything else offhand that's had additions. You may want to make sure you have everything you'd want from that peddler in Kolnia - you never know what might happen. Also undroppable items now have zero encumbrance although the items still display encumbrance.
Is there any particular new content that I should really be getting stuck into straight away in your opinion?
Hard to pick anything specific but once you get your residence you'll get the chance to have Rokmokkora over for a beating visit :) and Runeskin's back. Just make sure you're ready as he's buffed up and it's a subdual (no offensive powers in case you don't remember).
The GM developed a bit of a twisted taste for sheer and utter randomness while you were gone - enjoy. ;) Seriously some content has random elements to it that can be frustrating as all bejeebers - but the end is worth the means.
And one of the new "trends" is miscellaneous inventory items that boost stats and many of them have a customizable range. And once you get caught up you'll find there are a lot more grinding/mp opportunities. And there are approved timer displays for the grinding scenarios provided you use Firefox - the thread's sticky'd in Help.
WHERE THE HELL IS MY SWORD OF BLOODY MERZEKK?
Progressing somewhat albeit slowly.
And I know you know the value of the wiki and you may want to check out the Hint's section in help as it probably covers some new "territory" for lack of a better word. And most of the topics are covered on the forum. Btw this one search engine is mucho better than the old one.
Like Dooli...... a bit envious of all the catching up you've got to do. Betcha almost feel like a maiden again.;)

Thanks gang! Thats been a huge help - I really appreciate your efforts.
I'm starting to feel a bit less swamped by it all now. Although you've given me plenty to do...lol. Guess I'd better turn my attention to Fogborough shortly. There are so many new things that it'll take me an age to get through them all.
(That is if I can get off my backside and out of the Griffon Ledge. That Silvermark is a fantastic brew;))
On a side-note - huge respect to whoevers been putting in the work on the wiki. Its amazingly detailed now - I can't believe how far its advanced while I've been absent.

(I'm going to need to find a lot more shortcuts like this though if I'm going to make up for my extended absence. :P)
Here's one for Tarn provided your NR/SP is enough and another shout out to Elrond for sharing it. :) If it ain't now it will be as you get caught up, http://www.srythforum.com/showthread.php?p=42774&postcount=383
Also doing a tag search of "grinding" should help. Here's the results but they may not display as there's been issues with trying to link searches before, http://www.srythforum.com/tags.php?tag=grinding And once you complete first run content additional "mini grinds" will open up.
And to me either the Hale or an undead scaled weapon (i.e. Creyn, Trielra's) are the preferred weapons for Tarn due to the normally high number of undead. And a tip re: mps (Yay! Spencer and "forum osmosis" :)), http://www.srythforum.com/showthread.php?p=33711#post33711
Also re: "additions" to "old stuff". If you've checked through the Hints thread you may have seen this but in case you haven't one other change in your absence is that Thaoni and her Legendary training was actually a bug and has been fixed. She'll train Slash up to level 50 max iirc.

BC this may not be an issue as I don't know how much general xp you were holding when you returned or how much you've used since but there's been a few more items similar to the Phantom ones/Ice Shield that take general xp to level.
Also re: Big E - like Dooli mentioned you can still get visited by him by resting manually. However, his smoldering campfire has been extinguished - for now.
Also even when avoiding the Quickstone autorest you may find that you built up an immunity to Stoneskin Fever.
In post edit: Actually just manually rested Hawk 50'ish times with no sign of Ezerok. Might be the randomness or it could be that Ezerok no longer invades our sleep.
And just wondering if Varsil cleaned his Iakor's at the Cathedral of Silver Rain?

Just random. Scout got him on the 3rd rest attempt just the other day. Wanted to see if he wanted to play and he did.....:D

Thanks guys. Ezerok had already let me know hes still around. Plus I've always got a few hundred thousand general xp on hand in case of additions along the line of Phantom items - or in case I find I might need a boost for a skill/power check in order to keep my 100% PG record and get maximum ATs:D
I think I've found all the items that require general xp so far - I've got my Bowl all fired up but will be a few days till I've finished the Circulus Lupus though.
I'm intrigued by your Cathedral reference OS - I don't recall knowing anything about that before. I may have to check that out -but then again I'm quite attached to my Demonic status so perhaps not...lol
I've been loving all the new content I've discovered and I'm currently enjoying the novelty value a certain Serpent has brought me and am intrigued by the thread I've found where Shadowblack didn't appear to get any benefit from it. I'm wondering if changing the order of Dragons and Serpent has any effect so doing some research into that.
Thought I may try my hand at some Wiki editing too - perhaps a note on the alternative method of dealing with the Skeleton below Phak-Rur as detailed in my sig. And maybe some minor details on a few quests eg. I've hung on to Tallys Ironheart Amulet to do some product testing (as requested in the Amulets discussion page)and found nothing exciting about it over a couple of hundred combats. Then theres a message from the GM that you must complete all the Ashlyre quests before being able to enter Fogbough - I'm assuming that was put in game before the 'Ashlyre at Night' quest was added as Ecthelion has completed most of the Outer Wood stuff and all the Baleward content but still hasnt finished Ashlyre as I'm trying to find if theres a finite number of Shadows roaming the streets (90 dead so far and no sign of a let up).
On other 'new' stuff - I've now the proud owner of a single stone tablet with three gems set in it. It lives in a wooden box with three wooden rods - is there anything else I'm missing with that or is that as far as we've all got so far?

RE:
The catherdral - so far Voltan's held off for the same reason.
Edit: It was fairly recently added. Perhaps it's tied to content or maybe you've just not been there yet. If/when it's available you can try it out without saving as that's what Voltan did.
Serpent totem et. al. testing - good show, let us know what you find out.
And your amulet mention got me wondering and I recall seeing it equipped when you first returned. Are you still fond of the Medallion of Phase Form?
Re: your wooden box, etc....
Can't recall the specific "order" but there's an item that may shed some light.... Have you gotten it yet?
Blackcrowe
03-14-2011, 11:26 AM
Totem test is in progress. :)
And I'm still a big fan of the Phase Form Medallion. If you're doing plenty of grinding its the best amulet to wear imo as it has more of a beneficial effect on scaled enemies than the addition of a few SP or NV that other amulets can give. I just swap it for the Snakes Head medallion when I have 'proper' monsters to kill that need high stats. (I'm not in possession of a full Griffon medallion yet and have resisted the temptation to look at its stats till I get one - but I have noticed quite a few Adventurers seem to favour that so my policy may change later).
And oh yes - I'm all prepared for when things go dark too! :)
