I am very sorry about this as I am positive that this is second nature to most of you but could someone please let me know how to sort the order of posts out?
At the moment I am looking at threads trying to see what is new by scrolling to the last post on the page. However, today I have noticed that the list is not in date order, e.g. to me the last post on the battlegrounds page is Oldschool from some days ago but there are some posts half way up refering to the stone tossing competition???
Could someone please take pity on me and show me the way to the light :-)
Thanks very much.

that sounds like you changed the settings for post order under your user CP. Change it back to linear-oldest first (under edit options) and it should go back to the order of the post date.

What I do to view all new posts is to scroll up to the top of the page and click on the "New Posts" button.

Like the previous posts state. Also after hitting "new posts" I click "view first unread" under "new reply" in the upper left hand corner. Don't worry Chareos I think a lot of us are still learning our way around also - I know I am.

Thanks very much for your speedy responses I will rep you as soon as I get to my 10th post :-) Unfortunately it seems that the linear view oldest first option does not seem to be working? I found it in the edit options and it was already set to that. I tried clicking the save changes to see if that made a difference, it didn't. I tried changing it to newest first and saved changes but it made no difference either. When I went back to the options it was set back at oldest first?
Is there any way to view the threads like on the old forum? I am sure that it came up that way the other day but then again given my knowledge of all these new fangled technological advances maybe I was dreaming?
Mind you I did manage to get an avatar up :-) (I think lol)

There could be a bug with the software, in which case only Havoc can help you, because I can't think of anything else that might be wrong

Try clearing your cookies for the site
In firefox, it's Tools -> Options -> privacy tab - show cookies
search for the srythforum.com cookie (and see if you also might have a www.srythforum.com)
Delete all cookies for any syrthforum.com sites you may have.
This will log you off the forum, but when you log in it Might (emphasis on might) fix you problem or at least enable you to change you preferences in the UserCP

Well bash me on the head with the mighty Skyrage hammer and call me Mildred! I am working away at the moment and have just logged on with my laptop. Guess what? Everything is back to normal!!! Hurrah and huzzah with highly polished brass knobs on
:-) I will have to try clearing my intenet explorer thingy when I get home later and see if that makes everything alright.
Thank you guys once again for leading me through the dastardly maze which is I.T. I will have to email the GM and see if he can boost my powers in this area lol I will try and get some more posts on tonight so that I can start repping you all :-)
Cheers,
Chareos
Edit: Grrrrrrrrr no joy with that. I have cleared the internet explorer cookies history etc but still won't play. Could it be because I opted for my login to be remembered? I noticed that I have to refresh the page to see any updates.

Just thought.... I should have put my edit in a new post to close in on 10 :-)

try reloading the page with Ctrl-F5, and see if that helps. All it does is bypass the cache, and gives you a fresh version of the page
(Admittedly I was tempted to give an alt-F4 joke, but that would be mean :p)

Yes, it would. I forgot what that did, so I tried it. Lucky for me, I had 2 tabs up, so Firefox asked my what I wanted to do with my tabs.

(don't you love it when a post ends up on a new page, seperating it from what the person was responding to?)
And Just for the record Alt-F4 closes the window that's up

Probably shouldn't admit to this but.....
NOW you tell me - after I thought, what the h@ll lets see what that does. At least I didn't have the game opened. Definitely worth a chuckle even at myself - lol. Of course, I'm gonna use that one at work. Don't know if that operator will be chuckling but I will.

I tried the Ctl F5 thingy - no joy I think I will email Havoc and see if I can change from being constantly signed in to logging on each time I open the page. By the way I have my 10 posts now so how do I rep you guys :-)

Simply log out and then log in, but make sure you DO NOT check the "Remember me" option.

Unfortunately I had already done that when I started the account :-( Now I am trying to find a way to undo it.

You scroll to the post of the person that made you want to repp them. Then click the brown button that has a check mark and an X in it. You can also add a comment on why you like/dislike the post. See this thread (http://www.srythforum.com/showthread.php?t=73) for more info.

If I understand correctly what you mean, then: Log out. Enter your username and password (if necessary) in the log in form. Then uncheckk the "Remember me" option (if it is checked) and THEN log in. This way you'll have to log in every time you visit the foruim (until you check the "remember me" option).

Make sure your options are set to this.

Doesn't happen here. But then, I have the forums set to show forty posts at a time. I hate clicking through multiple pages.
And Just for the record Alt-F4 closes the window that's up
I had a chuckle at that reference, since I already knew what it does. With Sryth, it could be really disastrous, I'm sure. *imagines lots of exp going down the drain*
Edit: What's the attached picture Thingirl posted? If someone wouldn't mind describing it for us blind folks. Thanks. (And no, I'm not being snippy. It's an honest request.)

It shows the display options for threads on this forum. The 'Sorted by' option is set to 'Last post time', the 'Sort order' option is set to 'Descending' and the 'From the' option is set to 'Beginning'.
(Hope that makes sense!)

And those options are found under the "new thread" option.

Thanks, Dooli. :) It made perfect sense.
