So, I'm feeling unbound, restless, angry... or bound into a ball of explosive nerves, with an urge to walk through walls, not break through doors....

Time to buy a residence... No need for another thread, so I'm creating one - that's the logic of the day.

I want residence stories, homeowner's pride expressed, personal interpretations and virtual tours, views on just how mind-blowingly magnificent and improbably impressive and imposing those residences are.

And what should Sigynna Oiorpata name his residence?

The Dire Halls of Ruin? The Mighty Mound of Many Moods? The Bloody Keep of Broken Fists and Crumbling Stone? The Home of Eternal Sunless Nights? The Saturnine Chambers of Gloom? The Rooms of Ravaging Retribution and Revenge? The Salons of Severance of All Things Sweet and Sentimental?

Bayonne of the Broken Bones? Southampton of the Shattered Skulls? Newcastle of the Never-ending Neverness?
The Alhambra of the Abyss? Carcassonne of Crownhald?

So what are those mental images of yours of the grandest of grand residences?

(If you're not all too jaded, that is...)

I kept the original name of all my residences - just kept clicking through Faradmyn's list until I found something that was in the region I wanted with a name that seemed evocative. Took a while, but made life more interesting.

Rhia's is Goldenturret House. I think of it as a bit like a smaller version of Chambord's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C3%A2teau_de_Chambord) roofscape, but with gold-tinted spires.

Aerin's is Windspire House. Pale grey stone, with one tall slender central tower. At the top is a spire carved with stonework tracery, a bit like this (http://www.shutterstock.com/pic-31642786/stock-photo-stone-fretwork.html), and the wind sings through the gaps in the stone.

Niamh's is Shadowgrove Tower. Most of the building that can be seen is a round crenellated tower, but the lower stories are built into the rock at the end of a valley, and some of the rooms are partly caves. Most of what can be seen from the tower is shadowy forest, hence the name.

Jazz has Wildmoor House, high up in a bleak stretch of the Stonehills. Think 'Wuthering Heights'. It sits on high ground above a lake, which is fed by a series of waterfalls down a cliff.

I find it hard to fit a lot of the residence improvements in with my mental image of the places, so I'm not going all out on buying them.

Now it's my turn to say: I love it. :) Thank you.

And suddenly I see another advantage to having a full roster of adventurers...

[ed.] Repped for the images conjured... :)

Well I fancy alliterative jocularity so......

And a few off the top of my head as it's hard to be alliterative and jocular at times.....

Extraneous Estate

Superfluous Stronghold

Irrelevant Inhabitantcy

Ancillary And Amended Abode

:D;)

Well, it's settled then: Mr Sock's Trite Tripe Tower (similar to Mr Hairpiece's Twat Trump Towers... :)).

Saturnine Smile Stronghold... kinda like Crying Clown Castle, only in reverse... :D

Well, I'll be back once the clown
settles down...
'Stop laughing, you idiot!'

Well I may have to change one of mine to Pot's Black Kettle since I forgot my intended initial reply. Hope those "castles" aren't glass indeed. ;)

All four of mine are play on their character names and although I've mentioned this before it's been a while so.....

Hawk's is Accipitrinae Castle, formerly Accipiter Castle, which is a taxonomic term related to hawks.

Esoteric's is Qabalistic Castle.

Virago inhabits Chaste Castle.

And Voltan (Hawk the Slayer's brother and nemesis in the movie that is the inspiration for my main's name) inhabits Palance Place which is play and a bit of homage to the actor that played him - Jack Palance.

Virago inhabits Chaste Castle.

That comes with an accessory upgrade, right?

A belt of some sort?...

:D

So I've heard and it seems a battle of entrepreneurship is already starting.

Heh, funny that... But they should be welcoming each other's business, since the more either one's sales increase, the closer will the other one's follow.

(Was that the true nature of the medieval arms race? :))

Here is my great residence tale:

My first post on the old forum about my new residence:

I will chime in finally as I am the proud owner of Grey Demense Court near Moonpath. I wanted it to be called Grey Demense without the "Court" but that is how the names work at this time, it seems, not a big deal really. It cost me 5 SP in a cape downgrade at Tallys'. I am sure that I will be glad for the purchase in the long run.

Young Ned replies:

What does "Demense" mean?

Silk chimes in:

It's the part of an estate that is reserved for the owner - especially in feudal times.

Spencer's misinformed reply:

Here is the formal definition.

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/demesne

I learned of the word in a series of novels by Piers Anthony called the Apprentice Adept series in which lords and nobles that ruled a certain part of the world had different colored "demenses" I do not recall if there was a Grey Demense or not, but that is where I got the idea...thanks for asking

And, finally, Spencer is rescued by dooli:

Possible confusion here between the word 'demesne' and the spelling 'demense'.

That is my great residence tale: I did change the name to Grey Demesne Court. I still want to do away with "Court."

That is funny, Spencer - I read something about it in a more lexically inclined thread, I think, but still funny, and this time seeing excerpts from the old tavern's postings makes it more so. :)

And a great name either way. :)

So you've been cookie'd. :)

(Still using the Orb of Wordmakeriness, BC... :) Yes, I believe I took the liberty of slightly altering its name, not sure. ;))
