View Full Version : Where should I begin...?

I really have no idea how to introduce myself. Every place I have ever started becoming a part of the community in, I seem to display myself in a slightly-different way at every place. You could say I'm a shapeshifter in regards to my personality, since I can very-well change whom I am in the drop of the hat.
There are a few constants, however.
1. I love to roleplay. With the ability to 'shift' as I do, it's easier to take on the mindsets of the various characters I play. Needless to say, I also love to write as well.
2. I'm a decent hand at spriting, but don't expect me to scratch one featuring a human. That's still beyond my capabilities at the moment.
3. I'm always scheming, always envisioning ways to make the world around me work to my advantage. If I was a villain, I would be one that would be liked by heroes at first, and would hate to have to sacrifice those same heroes for her cause, even though she knows it must be done.
4. I have Asperger's Disorder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asperger_syndrome). Click the link, I will break this board trying to explain that particular disorder in this post. This may also explain any future oddball behaviors I may display in the near future as well.
I have actually had an account for a long time, but only upgraded recently after relocating this place. (Thank you, PokeFarm!) Hopefully, I'm here to stay for the good bit. :3

Welcome to the game and forum, Tesa :) I hope the good bit lasts for many years to come :) . Feel free to ask away if you have any game related questions. And it would be good to check the wikia page for spoilers and adventure information.
On the forum, beware that it can be addicting! The community is unparalleled; and I hope you have time to contribute.
A welcome repp is duly delivered; and good luck!

Welcome to the forum Tesability.
If you like to write we have a nice fiction/roleplay section as well as an Art section.
We're a pretty laid back, friendly loose bunch around here I'm sure you'll fit in quite nicely.
Again welcome to the forum.

Just call me Tes, saves you typing a letter. :p
I'm debating on making a post describing my character on the Who is your character? thread, but... I'm pretty sure the way I have him schemed right now, his (or should I say its) existence breaks the laws of Sryth. >.>

Welcome, Tes! And do go ahead and tell us about your character - hey, think of them less as laws and more as guidelines... :)

Don't say I didn't warn you, once I do have Neos' profile up. It's different enough that I'm having to mentally rewrite portions of the story to fit the character. XP

:p Don't worry; as long as Neos' profile does not include using scripts and cookies to shoot up the rankings, you'll be fine :) Aside from that aside, you've raised the anticipation level. When do we get introduced to Neos?
Tesability
08-17-2011, 09:40 AM
Working on the profile now. I also have absolutely no skill in scripting or making them work, so no worries about that. (It's pretty bad when, on a different site, you screw up an auto-leveling script so bad, you're losing levels instead of gaining them, ehehe...needless to say, after that I avoid scripts I have to install myself at all costs.)
Elrond
08-17-2011, 09:45 AM
No worries from the start, it was just a pointer to the only "law" we have. Aside from that, all is fair game.
But since I mentioned scripts, there are some scripts approved by the GM to allow players to monitor the timing of replayable scenarios. However, I've never used them; so that piece of news is where my (lack of) expertise stops on the issue :)
By the way, how's your adventuring coming along? Have you started the Mad yet? I noticed that Neos is a "martial artist." Are you roleplaying his profile? If the profile is flexible on weaponry, you might want to consider the Shimmering Silver Longsword / Glittering Ice Shield combination. That will give better MR and punch after lvl 80 weaponry and weaponry slashing.
Tesability
08-17-2011, 10:00 AM
To a point, I am RPing the profile, though sadly, there is next to no gear that fits this character of mine...except the Ring of Disguise. XP (Let's just say the skills and powers I use in the in-game combat isn't always what really happened...)
And the only reason I haven't gotten that shield yet is that I have next to no patience. The Mad is driving me up a tree, as is, with how long it takes to get through.
Elrond
08-17-2011, 10:05 AM
Look at it this way, the Ice Shield is easily worth 200-250 AT's. With each of the 36 runs, you are earning something like 5-6 AT's. Not a bad formula.
As to the Mad, doing 40 levels on 40 days and add another week for preludes will get you an item that is worth over 360 AT's. So, you're earning something like 8-9 AT's with every Mad run.
Tesability

I pretty much will have to get the shield at least before I move on to the next level of the Mad.
I forget which level has the mist that makes it possible to get through the mist walls, but that's gone after I had completed the level and the browser shut itself down before I could save. Now that same mist is completely-gone and I can't get through even one wall, because of the sheer amount of HP.

Email the GM about that problem; I'm sure that he'll reset your Neos' Mad progress because technical failure caused that glitch.
And with that, I'll call this forum session off. Good luck, Tes!

I'm sure I'm not repeating myself, though, to be honest, I'm not keeping track. :) (And if I am, don't care, does no harm. :))
Hello and welcome to the forum, Tes.
Heh... read Neos' character genesis and liked it, found it good, refreshing-funny, and as you promised, different - no warning needed though. :) Your 'attempt' is a success.
As to your disorder, some individuals I like, love, or admire have it, including Gary Numan, Tim Burton, ... not to mention the ones that can't be proven but are assumed by some to have had it in the past, from Galileo Galilei to Shakespeare, from Mozart to Einstein... So one the one hand I feel like saying think nothing of it, and on the other one, I feel like saying something of the opposite: be aware of it, and proud of the company you're in. :)
I noticed Neos within the game, by the way - so welcome to you both, in the game, as well as the forum. :)

I had some symptoms as a child, but of course there was no such diagnosis back then. Fortunately, I grew out of it as I became an adult, as many people do (although not all). You develop your own coping mechanisms and with luck will suffer few if any issues as an adult, so just hang in there.

Tex, no offence, but you know having me wondering your age. I happen to be 23 and I still have the diagnosis. (I got misdiagnosed like nuts along the way, though. At one point, I was considered ADHD-combined, ODD and Bipolar, which I'm not really any of them.)
And I find it weird that, though I don't consider myself THAT attractive (mainly because I'm not overly-concerned about my appearance), that I still managed to draw a line of guys that wanted to be my BF. The one that did become my BF JUMPED THE LINE. XP (Kind of earned it after standing between me and my dad and holding his ground...and I have a Brooklyn, New Yorker for a dad.)
Drashika
08-20-2011, 12:19 AM
It's not weird at all. The physical is only part of what makes someone 'attractive' or 'desireable'. While the physical is the first, and most easily noticed thing, the person within is the person we fall for (which is why, though a romantic notion, I don't believe in 'love at first sight').
texlaw1992
08-20-2011, 05:16 AM
... I also have a Brooklyn, New Yorker for a dad, and a Queens, New Yorker for a mother.
I don't know if I actually had Asperger's or was just shy growing up (since they had no such diagnosis back then), but to the extent I had "symptoms," they were pretty much gone by the time I turned 25 (I'm 44 now). So, give yourself another year or two and see how you feel.
Edit: Thanks for noting the earlier typo Tes.

Very much agreed, Drashika. I believe that the concept of love at first sight is more related to lust than actual lasting love.
Welcome, Tes. My little brother was diagnosed with Asperger's, and I have a brother even younger than him who is autistic. Don't worry about me, peculiar characteristics are not something I am unaccustomed to. (I likely display many, myself.)
Anyway, I'm Lightwielder. You may not see much of me for some time, but I took some spare time to check to see how things are going on the Sryth Forum.

Welcome to the forum, Tes. I read your story as the first introduction to you, and I liked it. Then this, then the catwalk... I'm really starting to like you (and Neos).
I also display a few (well, a lot) of typical Asperger symptoms. Although with a few (ok, I'll admit again, a lot) of years of psychotherapy and behavioral training I've managed to overcome some of them and so I manage quite well in the wide world, if you catch me while sleepy or distracted I'm still a complete incompetent at humour/nuances and body language. I really need to concentrate for that. And I'm 29, so I don't expect my quirky ways to disappear with time. If something, I expect them to get worse :o
I hope to see you around for a long time. You'll see me here from time to time, I tend to disappear for days, or even weeks, but I always return. And as always, I'm just a PM away

Scarbrow's a new person?
Yes. Well, here we go, just as a friend suggested it would go...
So, with their permission, as I'm already wary enough of all this, and can't think of better words, I'll quote myself from the private message(s).
I simply meant him admitting to something like that, and my new consideration for it, and him. A new person through his admission, and a new person for me.
A person whose circumstances I have to consider.
As to the question of why, possibly, so many more people known online with Asperger's syndrome, than in any one person's 'real life' environment - apart from the obvious fact that an 'online space' in not primarily a limited physical space, but a virtual nexus for people located in many such physical spaces, and therefore a potential concentration of individuals with any number of conditions, preferences, interests, &c. - my answer:
Anonymity. (Good ally at times, and a reassuring friend. Allows for statements and declarations without having to deal with an awkward pause, as well. Or quizzical stares.) Or could be an excuse, I suppose, if the person declaring such a thing is lying about it, to whatever end. But that, I wouldn't question, I'll take their word.
And then, in answer to just such clearly confused reaction as yours, Young Ned, and why would such a revelation even matter:
Not a new person maybe, but a new aspect of an old one. I can sometimes be a new person, and surprise myself.
That sharing seems somewhat significant. And one person admitting, or 'coming out,' can embolden others to do the same, come what may, either in support of the first one, or as a form of unburdening themselves.
Hope this helps alleviate any further doubting thoughts, feelings, and  states.

Ah, okay, it makes much more sense to me now, thanks! Apologies for my confusion. People will stigmatise everything. Enough of that.
Anyway: Tes... lucky he's not getting those taps from Neos in his greater form... :D
As to Ildy, it's Ildraria, with one 'L.' (Or adopt my name for her, Ildy, making it easier to use, and giving the lady a befittingly friendly name, in my opinion. :) Xarakk's my favourite slashing and punching bag, but Ildy was, and always be my *first* :D My initiation into MPs, that is... :))
As to that knave, Rokmokkara, he's often referred to as Roki - though I personally think that's just to cute for him, but haven't actually thought of the character enough to hang a new one on that pompous p.... :)
So... am I to understand Neos will be seeing Ildy?!... Should I be getting jealous about now? :D ;)

@Tetracapillactomist
Why recognizing some of Asperger's symptoms on me would make me a different person? I'm not diagnosed as such (and I doubt I'll ever be, least of all formally, since I already do quite well). If you've read me:
I also display a few (well, a lot) of typical Asperger symptoms.
That is a long way off from having it diagnosed. As my friends (the best of them, whom I consulted yesterday) kindly point out (freely translated, since the conversation was, of course, in Spanish):
- "I don't know if an Asperger could do what you do"
- "If you have it, you've evolved very well"
- "When you're focused, you can recognize gestures and irony as part of the conversation"
- "It's possible that you have it - but on a very light stage"
- "You're capable to feel empathy, and you're skilled at logical games and irony"
- "Those features and symptoms can also stem from many other personality facets, like the narcissistic one"
- "We all have some relative 'social dysfunctions'"
Why I asked, you may think? I wasn't sure, and wanted a sanity check. Since quite a few of them agree on this, I think it adequately reflects reality.
So I don't think I'm a new person, or that I should be considered as such by anybody. I wasn't fishing for pity, nor "coming out". I was in fact identifying myself with the situation.
Now, if you want to consider me differently for it, please go on, I don't mind.
Tetracapillactomist

Well, then, we might be in some of the same waters, crossing paths, but maybe not too often. I am as I am (whatever that may be) for whatever reason, and perhaps no particular one at all.
Hmm...
"I don't know if an Asperger could do what you do"
You know what, Scarbrow? I'll not comment on that, and won't explain why... If others want to, fine.
"Those features and symptoms can also stem from many other personality facets, like the narcissistic one"
Indeed. No need for me to comment.

In light of this, you're right, and come to think of it, I was gravely mistaken.

I apologise. And again: now or in the future, I will not consider you any differently than before.
I may regret that. But still, I prefer to be understood than appreciated.
And a few more words: There's nothing that adds more to a stigma, whatever it may be, that treating a person differently, or even regarding him or her differently, because of it. It doesn't matter if it improves or worsens your perception of that person. The important thing is that it changes it, and that's the stigma. That's why you "closet".

Second: I agree, with nuances. Blanket statements are just that. Generalisations too.
