We have a new addition to the Hall of Champions: Sryth's Greatest Adventurers. There are 300 people on the list. The top 10:
Rank Adventurer
#1 Magical (havoc)
#2 Thordon (smv1973)
#3 Bounty Hunter (bountyhunter)
#4 Garet Jax (dhammett)
#5 Shadowblack (shadowblack)
#6 Trent (racey)
#7 Judge Fury (badstench)
#8 Spencer Lionking (durgin)
#9 Elendil (theodril)
#10 Furious George (raleights)

To think I am in the top 5 despite my low MR and Stamina...

To think I am in the top 5 despite my low MR and Stamina...

A worthy achievement, though presumably you knew you were ranked #4 already, before the new list was published - given Rhia's rank is the same as that displayed on her Stats page I'm assuming there aren't any surprises.

I like being able to see who it is that I'm competing with and how close I am. Nice addition!

Actually, I am not, at least not permanently. Here's why:
Previous: #4 Garet Jax (dhammett)
Current: #6 Garet Jax (dhammett)

I'm sure it's only temporary until Garet Jax changes back to his best equipment.

Still, it's nice to be #4, even if it's only for a short while.

Yeah, now if I want to see how Magical is doing, I don't have to wait untill both Havoc and I are on. That's why I put a link to Alanne's profile in my sigie.

You can always check up on Magical via my wiki user page: http://sryth.wikia.com/wiki/User:Hav0c

I'd put a link to his stats in my sig, but I rather like the clean look of just one image. Also, his abilities are pretty much at a standstill since I hit the level 94 roadblock.

Oh, thanks. And where did you find your avatar at? In case you don't watch Naruto, that's Itachi Uchiha's Tsukoyomi that he used on Kakashi in episodes 81-82 of the original.

Havoc
08-20-2009, 05:33 PM
Yes, I know the source of my avatar. :)

I found it on some random Naruto site, which actually had a whole long set of Naruto-related avatars and stuff. What I really liked about it was the fact that it looks 'cool' even to someone who has no idea what Naruto is. Besides, it kind of suits the image of an ever watchful mod/admin. :p

My Sig is based on the Heroes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroes_%28TV_series%29) title card. The quote is an extract from the Litany against fear (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bene_Gesserit#Litany_against_fear) from Dune.

Apologies for the digression from the topic. :)

I guess Havoc did not renew his membership yet because he his not listed in The Hall of Champions as of now. He was listed yesterday, and he said in a post that the last day of his membership was October 1.

Hmmm, I just checked my rankings and found that my 242 SP is ranked 3rd. Then I checked the HoC and didn't see anyone with 242+ SP except SMV's Thordon! Have I missed something in the HoC? Do you know any player with 242+ SP? Thanks!

Bit further off topic. Mr. Crowley is a song by Ozzy. What is the basis for this song?

Just had a look at the "Active Adventurers" list and noted this:
1. Thordon [AG]
2. Garet Jax [AG]
3. Magical [AG]
4. Trent [AG]
5. Judge Fury [AG]
6. Spencer Lionking [AG]
7. Shadowblack [AG]
All top 7 players online at the same time... this world's getting too small methinks :p

2. Garet Jax [AG]
3. Trent [AG]
4. Judge Fury [AG]
5. Spencer Lionking [AG]

I've only just noticed that if you scroll down to the bottom of the Hall of Champions page you can see a list of the top fifty adventurers ranked by Equipment.

Not sure if this has been there for a while - given my ability to miss things it's highly likely - but I thought I'd post it in case anyone else was similarly challenged :)

Now all I have to do is get Rhia onto the list - as of today she's ranked #51.

I've given up grinding to the extent that I use to.

Before I embark on this rant, I feel it is only right to acknowledge smv1973 for his achievement with Thordon.

I feel it is equally appropriate to acknowledge Havoc's achievement with Magical... more so, because Havoc achieved his status during the years when the attaining a legendary status in any stat was nigh on unthinkable.

I've watched the progress of player-characters far newer to the game than me, and been, at times, awed by their swift progress up the ranks.

I don't want to diminish their achievements, but I think it worth noting that xp is far easier to accumulate now than in the past.

I'm sure Shadowblack will attest to this.

My point is... I've been grinding for a period of time that might ineveitably cause ennui or 'burn-out' to result. I'm very comfortable with stating that... if I had grinded (ground) as much within the current reward systems, I'm sure Judge Fury would be placed way higher than he is now.

Forgive me if that sounds like a gripe. I don't mean it to sound that way; it's just a fact.

Anyway... as I have said elsewhere, as from tomorrow, I'm officially on holiday. I won't have access to the internet where I'm going, so when I return in a week's time, I fully expect to see Judge Fury dropping in rank... and maybe out of the top 10.

I'm not experiencing angst about this; Judge Fury has levels good enough in all stats to survive most encounters thrown at us by the GM to date. I keep reminding myself that the competition aspect of the game is of our own making. The game can be played quite successfully without being in the top 10 rankings for power.

hmmmm.... okay... it sucks!

So... (maybe I should put this next comment in "The Gauntlet" thread)... my challenge to you is this...

Do your darnedest to dispossess Judge Fury of his current placing, because when I get back, you better believe I'll be gunning to make up for lost time.

You've been warned.

Related to the events in the Winteriron Armor (http://www.srythforum.com/showthread.php?p=25535#post25535) thread, I've further investigated the Hall of Champions to have a glimpse of how many players are out there.

There are a total of 843 characters listed on the Hall of Champions. They belong to 642 players, 510 of them are AG members. I have some statistics on them, but I'll keep them for myself for the moment until I perfect a way to screen-scrape them directly from the HoC pages without needing to manually process the results.

We should take into account there are some AG players not on the HoC, as shown by the recent raffle, where the user "azabat" doesn't show on the HoC, yet it's AG. Even with that, we know have a certain idea of how much (better said, how little) the GM gets from subscriptions: roughly 10k$/year, gross. Surely enough to cover maintenance costs (bandwidth, storage, servers, etc) but not enough by any account to live on it. The GM is living on our donations. And since he keeps Sryth his full-time job for the time being, I suppose the donations are enough. Many character's equipments tell about that ;)

texlaw1992
02-25-2010, 05:47 AM
I remember asking once somewhere on the forum how many people participate in Sryth and iirc, the answer was somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000. I guess that information was incorrect or now out of date.

CT is not an inexpensive place to live. My guess is that the GM's spouse probably has an outside job and the GM acts as at least a part-time house husband. In any event, here's to Sryth becoming as big as D&D Online in terms of subscribers.

These are values for Hall of Champions only, textlaw1992. Remember there is also a good base of non-AG players, many of whom won't appear on listings.

I have a recently-created non-AG character located at Adv. Rank # 4,261, so there are at least that number of characters, and assuming 600 players are AG with 4 characters (a long shot, since by the numbers in the HoC, most AG players don't use the 4 slots) that would mean 2400 characters belonging to AG accounts, even if not all of them are AG characters. Thus, there are 1800 characters not associated with AG at all. Since the limit for non-AG accounts is two characters, that means there are at least 900 additional non-AG players currently active (or at least, active on the last 3 months, expiration by inactivity period for non-AG players who had never been AG)

That would account for the 2000-3000 figures.

shadowblack

Actually, the expiration period is currently 60 days:

I found out about Sryth through a webpage ad. So, at the very least, the advertising worked on me. I wouldn't call my AG subscription and one donation "lucrative", but it's better than nothing! :)

Nice catch Scout and I think you're correct in that if an account goes unsubscribed it's removed from the HoC.

Iirc Spencer dropped off the rankings for a few days while his subscription was inactive. At least he dropped off of "Sryth's Greatest Adventurers" list.

And it's very possible I missed it but I occasionally look at the HoC and like to think I would've noticed stirlock before. I'm fairly sure I would've noticed if he was ranked in "SGA" near #300 when I noticed Sianna Dey. As far as I know she's the first non AG to be ranked thus.

After I posted the above I thought "unless the GM's somehow activated it by some kind of testing, etc..." so I decided to look at the profile link in your post.

Wow a little odd looking at the profile. One thing that jumped out was the sword from the Emerald Rose collection. Definite proof that the character's been active lately I would think.

And while the character is not currently listed in the HoC he/she is listed in the rankings at least for weaponry (level 90).

Interesting indeed - nice catch Scout.

Just checked the Hall and we have a couple of other characters that have broke the 300 MR barrier in addition to Trent - Mr. Crowley (http://www.sryth.com/ci.php?f_c=pcp.inc&f_i=14352e1xce1d10e01&f_r=h) and Bounty Hunter (http://www.sryth.com/ci.php?f_c=pcp.inc&f_i=561bb8xce7bdab8&f_r=h).

Since I can't rep their handlers I think some musical accompaniment is in order. Congrats Bounty Hunter (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zxcezpQ60c) and Mr. Crowley (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSnj8X1zAZI).

Yup, we have a lofty "300-MR Club" in our beloved Sryth. And if anyone told me that 300 MR was doable at the time PG V was launched, I would have called them insane! I remember that at the time, I thought that breaking the 100-MR barrier was a tremendous achievement! Heck, when Elendil broke the 200-MR plateau, I thought that he was invincible! Shows how ignorant I was!

With a couple of magic-item acquisitions, Judge Fury rose 5MR (to nudge himself over the 280MR mark) and 3SP, but he had to sacrifice 10NV to do it. He has since been assailed by panic attacks and self-loathing brought on by an identity crisis.

I'm a spell-caster! I want my NV back!

And anyway... this Jingle-t belt is stoopid. It's like wearing a cat-collar that tinkles all the time.

And it's a bit girly!

For the sake of appearances and machismo, I'm gonna donate real money this next payday just so I can decrease my MR and increase my NV.

You 'girls' can keep your tinkly belts... and go join those hankie-waving maypole dancers at the same time! You'll fit right in! :D

Lol Badstench. :)

Overheard in the AC to the tune of Here Comes Santa Claus.

"Here comes Judge tinkly-belt, Here comes Judge tinkly-belt,
Cussing, fussing and looking like a dame......"

:p:cool:

*SUGGESTIVE HUMOR ALERT*

Oh and in case anyone was wondering. Here's what the belts look like. Actually they don't appear girly to me. And there seems to be some odd ritual to empowering them going on.

He's making a fuss, doing it twice,
Gonna complain 'bout items of ice,
Judge Fury is coming to town.

He knows when you've been Srything.
He knows all of Sryth's tales.
He judges when you've been bad or good
When you go to Tallys sales.

Oh, you'd better not brag and you'd better not buy
'Cause if he can't afford it he's going to cry.
Judge Fury is coming to town.

hmmm... just so happens, Texan, I been watchin' Centennial (the TV series adapted from James a Michener's book, which I have also read [three times]), and tho Colorady is a might distant from the lone star state, seems to me that tough livin' goes hand in hand with the makin' or breakin' of a man, and if a few tears are shed along the way, it doesn't make a man any less, less'n the man wears a Jingle-t.

Now where's that spitoon?

Depends on your donation, you could improve "Torso" and "Tabard" armor without losing NvR. Then you can take off the "Girlie Jingling Girdle" and wear a belt with Rokmokkara's name inscribed on it. I'm not sure which is worse! :(

(editor alert) BTW: it is Jingle Bell-t :)

When I looked, I noticed that Havoc's Magical is missing, again.

His last visit to the forum was 2 Weeks Ago.

I sure hope he hasn't left us....

I can't speak for all the old timers... just for me.

I wonder, sometimes, what the attraction is for gamers who have worked their characters to legendary status in all powers and abilities. It's a given that new game content is always interesting, but when the 'grinding' factor is taken away, visits will become less frequent.

I read a post by a well known Player... he commented that, although he had enough experience points to max out quite a few abilities, he chose not to.

His choice.

In the meantime, Magical calls in when the whim strikes. Thordon does likewise. I haven't seen Jodelle in ages. Trent is likewise, with the added bonus of being the Big Badass of Sryth.

And Judge Fury? Once Badstench figures out that damned flash game, he'll be back.

Joddelle told me once in a visitor message: I still play the game and occasionally work on the wiki, but this forum is an evil suck on time I don't have, so I mostly avoid it nowadaysThat was 5/29/2010. She was last seen 7/31/2010.

I tried to find a "members list" on the Wiki to see if she had been working there, but had no luck. "Is there one?"

I don't check the active adventures list very often and don't know her characters names anyhow so it wouldn't do any good.

I've had quite a few changes in my life lately, mostly bad, and I guess I just miss the way it use to be....

Same here as Hawk's been hovering on the border anyway. He's normally logged off with Trielra's or of late Umdurol's but when in his best gear he's hovering at or just inside the Top 20 - usually just behind Rhia, Scout and Lancelot. In fact I've noticed that Lance is making a steady climb up the ladder - congrats Tex.

We may be in luck as Lance is coming up on Rhia and given his womanizing "charms" and Rhia's obstinance to such he might get stalled or worse.

A bit suggestive..... And no offense to Rhia or Lancelot or their handlers.

Lance no more is now his name, watch him do a gelded walk of shame.......

Just kidding Tex - gotta get back at ya somehow for passing "me" so quickly.

Scout has one advantage over some in front of him, he hasn't started Mad yet, so when he does, the XP gained will start him moving forward again.

Also, many of Scout's powers and a couple skills are sitting on the edge of leveling up so that may just add a little push forward as well....

All those recent AS&P bonuses have paid off - I've advanced a full level in all powers but SM just on AS&P experience, as well as a few skills (most of the remainder also close to an increase). Coupled with my soon-to-be first million general xp (currently 950,000+), I'm looking forward to formally passing the 90+/80+ skills/powers level and then some once "The Mad" is done.

I've also noticed that Judge Fury is now missing from the Top 10, but I'm sure he'll be back, even if it knocks most of us down a peg or two.

Edit: Glad to see Judge Fury's absence is only temporary.

T'was the day before payday
And all through his bank account
Rang the clang of the 'empty'
'Cos his balance said "No Amount"

What a terrible time for subscriptions to stop

But the smiles belied those crocodile tears.
