Considering the recent time change I got to thinking about server time which is Eastern U.S. and currently Eastern Standard Time as we just moved out of Daylight Savings Time.

And while I happen to be in the server's time zone many, probably most, of our membership and players aren't, so having this as a separate thread may help folks outside of the server's time zone.

Of course this may not cover all the bases such as those folks in areas that either do not observe Daylight Savings or whose dates differ from the server's zone.

And since we have an international membership with some help from the following,

And here's a GMT converter for folks that might find one handy - thanks to Raestloz's post.

which may be a good site for folks outside the server time zone that are concerned with server time to bookmark/favorite.

The server is in the Eastern U.S. time zone which is why it's set to Eastern U.S. prevailing time which translates to,

Eastern Daylight Saving Time (EDT) is GMT -4

Eastern Standard Time (EST) is GMT -5

The differences in the above being (at the time of this post) is that Daylight Saving Time runs from 2 a.m. (local time) on the second Sunday in March to 2 a.m. (local time) on the first Sunday in November). If it's outside of these dates Standard Time is observed.

Edit: And a doffing of the helm to folks outside the server time zone especially those outside of the U.S. that are able to keep up with the server time and a a flourish to that doff to folks that have to keep up with more than two.

Here's an idea, Raestloz: what version of Windows do you use? (assuming it's Windows you use...)

I know in Win 7 you can set 3 clock to run on different time zones.

I don't remember, don't know whether XP or Vista allows the same...

Set your main clock to your time zone (i.e., leave it as is, I guess), and set the secondary or tertiary time zone to NA EST (New York, etc.).

That's it... next you hover your cursor over 'Windows Date & Time,' you'll see two (or three) clocks: 'Local time,' 'Clock 1,' and 'Clock 2.' Set them to show day as well (Mon, Tue, &c.), and to automatically adjust for DST, and forget your worries forever. Hover, check, go. :)

(Well, I can only hope XP and Vista have options for multiple time readouts, as I can't check right now.)

Very handy! I've never bothered with figuring out what the server time is before, but thanks to this thread (and TCs helpful 'double clock' instructions) I now have not only a Sryth-time clock running on my computer but a better idea of what time it is for some of the other folks playing. :)
