View Full Version : Vote for Sryth rewards

Looks like the PBBG Warp site has reimplemented vote rewards. Although it appears they haven't been established for Sryth yet it's still a sign of support for the game and the GM so,

VOTE FOR SRYTH HOURLY (http://www.toppbbgs.com/vote.php?id=14)

VOTE HERE HOURLY ALSO (http://www.worldpbbgs.com/vote.php?id=14)

It gets a bit complicated (for me at least) as the voting link is on a different site. It appears it is basically just for voting but still part of the PBBG Warp site. Also there appears to be two types of rewards.

"Satellite ranking vote rewards can be offered using the integration system. As well, games can offer rewards to their players for becoming a fan on PBBG Warp."

The above comes from, http://www.pbbgwarp.com/blog.php?id=10

Here's some additional links for anyone interested.

It appears that Sryth has a game rep - "Member 5" who may or may not be the GM. Also it seems that rewards can be received through the integration system which appears to be similar to the old reward system and for becoming a fan (member) on PBBG Warp.

I haven't delved into it much at all and admit that I haven't kept up with it lately nor have I been voting regularly. H@ll who am I kidding, I haven't been voting even semi-regularly lately (hangs head in shame :o:().

I haven't the time now to register to see if that makes a difference. Member 5 hasn't logged in for about a month apparently.

The game rep appears to be someone officially connected with the game and responsible for rewards. Again that's at a quick glance. If this is the case and the GM was willing as well as a member it might be a good thing to have that time/task delegated to someone else. I don't have the time currently nor the know-how (probably indefinitely).

Game rep issue aside someone that has better luck than me corresponding with the GM may want to do so on this matter. Also if someone does as a courtesy would you post if you do and if/when he responds so that he doesn't potentially get inundated with emails.

Also don't forget to, rewards or not,

VOTE FOR SRYTH HOURLY (http://www.toppbbgs.com/vote.php?id=14)

VOTE HERE HOURLY ALSO (http://www.worldpbbgs.com/vote.php?id=14)

Nearly a month has passed, has anyone corresponded with the GM regarding vote rewards? If so, what is the status of said correspondence?

Regardless of whether or not we receive rewards for voting this is a good show of support and appreciation for the GM. And truthfully if it drums up a few more AG members we all benefit from it.

Hear hear! I just had a look, and Sryth is only ranked 68th for the past year. It doesn't feature in the rankings at all for the past month. Would be nice to see if we can do better than that!

OK I've done some more reading on the PBBG Warp site and it seems things have progressed since my earlier posts.

Here's the homepage for the PBBG site, http://www.pbbgwarp.com/

This is a link that will take you straight to registration. You don't have to register and from what I could read it may only come into play if rewards are set up, http://www.pbbgwarp.com/pbbg/fanform.php?id=14&screenname=SCREEN-NAME-HERE I registered and can't tell a difference but a few other folks seem to be registered under their forum handles as well.

And here are two links for voting on the PBBG site. Both are hourly but are different categories so as they say in certain places - "vote early vote often" ;). I'll edit my siggie momentarily btw.

http://www.toppbbgs.com/vote.php?id=14

http://www.worldpbbgs.com/vote.php?id=14

And most of the following is over my head but this is the game reps page which has some interesting info. It seems there can be icons put on using code as well as a way to integrate game info which amongst other things I think is tied to rewards.

K I just voted for both hourly votes for sryth. It would be alot more interesting if the rewards were set up so it would make us want to come back more and vote often.

We had rewards set up "behind the blue door" but they as well as another vote link with no rewards were dismantled. Iirc the PBBG site underwent some changes which put the reward system in limbo.

It looks as if they are now set up - there's some pretty detailed info on the site. Someone with the requisite knowledge and skill may want to look at the site and break it down for the GM in an email.

Perhaps someone could even volunteer to become a game rep and help the GM out with some of the work. Unfortunately I'm all thumbs when it even approaches that level of computer know how.

Just wondering has anyone with the coding/programming savvy looked at the site links?

Helms off to everyone who is supporting Sryth.

And I've been trolling around "Sryth reviews" and such a bit and it seems we have some other anonymous members plugging Sryth as well. You know who you are - kudos.

Do they actually count multiple votes from people? I've voted for both of them 5 or 6 times over the last week, and I could swear the vote count hasn't changed. When I just voted it was 55 and 53, but I'm positive they were in the low 50's the first time I voted . . .

Oldschool
10-13-2010, 11:48 PM
Ditto as I've also thought I've noticed the same thing. I'm not sure but it may take a bit for votes to process. Sryth's climbing the ladder steadily though. Still it might be worth keeping track of numbers.

10-14-2010, 02:12 AM
Same and I just voted. Now that I think about it perhaps it's even weekly when they're counted. That way a whole weeks worth is posted at once instead of a running total. I'll try and look at the site later and see if it states how/when votes are tabulated.

Previously, I had mostly not paid attention to this, but I've just started getting into it, as well.

Let's kick Sryth up a notch.

EDIT: Sryth is number 8 in Top PBBGs. Let's change that, shall we?

scout1idf

Unfortunately, number 4 has 100 votes. It will take a lot to catch them so lets go!!!!!

61 and 60 just before I voted and after which is up from earlier. So I'm guessing it takes a bit before they're processed but not a week like I mentioned earlier. By the way I couldn't find a definitive answer on the site.

However, I had voted before, so maybe they're tracking unique IP's?

I have also just voted, hourly one showing 61.

I've not voted since last week..

Oldschool
10-14-2010, 02:00 PM
Same numbers for me before and after voting.

Bear with me as I'm not sure of the correct terminology....

From what I remember from when vote rewards were set up the site does track IP's I'm not sure to what level or the terminology. Remember when vote rewards were set up votes could only be done daily - not hourly like votes now. And if you try to vote again within an hour you get an unsuccessful message - even if you clear your clear out your browser.

I remember being told somewhere that you might not receive rewards if someone with the same IP thingamajig had previously voted.

A befuddled Oldschool goes off to necrothread.........

Oldschool
10-14-2010, 02:24 PM
Octets of an IP address was the terminology I was looking for.

Thanks to Scarbrow's earlier post in "Milestones" regarding my Sryth anniversary earlier I took a nice nostalgic trip down the old forum.

And I just took another trip - a necrothreading "adventure" there. What I don't miss however is the old forum's search engine.

From this thread on the old forum, http://shadowwolf47.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=4705

Remember this was before voting was changed to hourly. And I wonder if the mention of a voting log has anything to do with how votes are tallied?

Each game listed on PBBG Warp is encouraged to place a voting link on their website. This allows their players to vote for the game and boost its exposure on PBBG Warp. Votes are restricted to one per day per person, which enforced by requiring same-day uniqueness of the first three octets of each voter's IP address. Vote logs are cleared daily at 3 AM Eastern time

Scarbrow
10-14-2010, 04:57 PM
Just voted again from work: completely different IP. However, numbers haven't changed: 61 and 60

Either there is some problem with the voting site or... I don't know. But IP sharing is ruled out with this test

Oldschool
10-14-2010, 06:11 PM
Well going from recent posts it was 55/53 till recently which now puts it at 61/60 but it hasn't moved since.

Without more I'm guessing it's related to the rate at which vote totals are updated which is anyone's guess at this time. By that increase it shouldn't be daily like it was (24 hours) as the earlier quote states because I'm guessing the increase would've been more - but maybe not.

Let's keep an eye on the totals when voting and report any changes. That should give us at least some semblance of a "watermark" to go off of although there's no way of telling how many votes have been cast. Perhaps the GM or a game rep could retrieve this info - I dunno.

However let's not let this negatively affect our voting - if nothing else it should spur more.

G:D Sryth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oldschool
10-17-2010, 12:27 PM
Now Sryth is #4 in past week with 108 and 104 votes - votes definitely seem to be tallied once a day.

And.....

Past month, #6 - 363, #5 - 341

Past year, #16 - 341, #25 - 365

All time, #18 - 341, #23 - 11043

Like some reading this when I first looked at all the numbers I was starting to wonder where all the old votes went and figured when the site changed they started over. That was until I looked at Top PBBGs 'All Time' list.

A belated shout out and thanks to Terook who was the first to put a vote link in their sig (old forum) which was my inspiration. And I recall that Rakhan did as well.

Thanks for the heads up and reminder to vote and support Sryth Hephaestus.

Here's the rest of the count with Top PBBGs listed first and World PBBGs second.

Past week - #4 as Hephaestus said with 93 and 91.

Maybe the week started over?

Past month - #4 with 406, #3 with 390

Past year - #22 with 440, #14 with 415

All time - #24 with 11118, #17 with 415

For 'newer' players when the rewards were set up there were just set up for Top PBBGs - that's why the big discrepancy exists in the all time category.

If you vote, please bump this thread. I'd like to see how many people are hardcore Srythians. If you really love Sryth, add the vote links to your signature to help remind people to vote everytime they visit the forums.

Best way to contact him is via the in game reporting system or email. In game reporting seems to get to him quicker but if it's fairly detailed or long I usually email him. His addy is gamemaster@sryth.com

And while long these may give you a little insight about the voting site and possible rewards that we once had set up. The original site disabled them temporarily while remodeling but they seem to be back up now.

If nothing else perhaps he could put the links back behind the blue door or using the icon feature put em directly on the homepage. And hate to sound either greedy or critical of certain folks but if he reimplemented rewards I'm almost positive the vote tallies would skyrocket. With two votes possible every hour I would expect the rewards to be minor - even less then before. Which iirc were 64 xp general which was more than fair imo since it is the end rewards for a Bat Cave run which takes a bit longer. Plus if it draws more paid members we all benefit. If it just draws hits which I think influence page rank I'm betting we also benefit since I still think a substantial portion of the GMs income must come from ads since his subscription fee is so low.

Honestly, I do think an incentive to vote should be given. The reason I say that is because it just seems fair to me. Yes, subscriptions are cheap, however, to truly excell at the game, and compete with the big boys (and ladies), you gotta spend some cash for ATs. I know this, personally, to be true. However, skills and powers help, so I think for those that can't afford ATs, should still have a fair chance at earning experience, for competitive reasons. So, if people are voting, and in turn helping to create revenue for the game, they should get something in return. Anyways, that's just my point of view.

Also, the reason I ask about who promotes the game is because I would like to help, obviously. I've done it in the past for other games, and can be quite resourceful when it comes to finding gaming directories. In fact, regardless of voting sites, just getting the name out there, on some sites, is successful in itself. With the proper permission, I'm positive I can double, or even triple, the amount of active players we have within one month. I'm up for the challenge.

Just a reminder to please vote folks.

And you might find this reminder tip helpful.

Think of voting for Sryth as repping the GM/game.

If I rep someone or see that someone has repped me I vote. Unless of course I know I just did so since we can vote hourly.

Probably shouldn't admit this but.....

I'm guessing because it's my tag and I see it so much I get used to it and overlook it. Of course that may apply to everyone else given my post count, lol. So I had to come up with a forum string on the finger.

Actually when Balthazar put the vote links in his sig I noticed his a lot more than my own.

Now that I think about it it won't hurt to mod my links as it's been awhile.

Looks like the voting sites captcha is feeling the holiday spirit if a little off. Replace last 'e' with an 'h'.

It's a new year so a new year for vote totals started.

So let's improve Sryth's rankings and VOTE FOR SRYTH.

Think of it as ringing those bells we're finding in a big thank you. :)

Thanks Scarbrow as I've been guilty myself of late. Also as links are in my sig this can serve as a "hot link" of sorts as my thread view is on a page change I'm guessing others are too.

I don't know whether this has been pitched before, but what do you think of a none too strident, yet still very noticeable banner-type display on top of the page (over the stone-/brickwork pattern), containing the voting sites' links - similar to the donations banner within the game - if feasible? Something that vision-impaired readers, software, would also pick up, of course, as soon as a guest, member - anyone - visits the forum?

The banner would then appear on top of every forum page that loads - again, similarly to the donations banner within the game - regardless what section of the forum you happen to be viewing.

EDIT: forgot - voted, thank you.

We're out of the top rankings.

A few votes, please?

I've also sent the GM a suggestion (another one, that is, to refresh the issue) to re-implement voting rewards from the "windowless building with a blue door" as they were once done.

Ditto and now that my sigs are a little less cluttered they should fit again. If not it's time to change my rotation anyways so I'll make sure they do.

And good idea and good luck with the recommendation Scarbrow and thanks for the links Dooli.

Just a bump/reminder as I've put the vote links back up in my sig.

So cast your votes (plural) hourly.

Just a reminder to older members and a heads up to newer ones so folks don't potentially get discouraged when/if viewing the vote totals.

They don't update in real time. And while it's been discussed I don't recall for sure or if we ever determined with any certainty but I think the votes are tallied daily. And I'm not sure when or exactly where the vote sites server is located other than the U.S..

Anyhoo......

Vote for Sryth, please and thank you. :)

4th and 5th now.....

Sorry for any confusion but I have been logging results from left to right i.e. first I do the vote at the bottom left of OS's sig and then the right. I don't suppose that is the way you guys do it cos my results were -

5th and 4th

Oldschool

Hmmmm.....

I click mine in the same order left to right. However, I usually click them one two then vote which because of my settings opens them in new tabs where the first one clicked (left one) makes a new tab then the second one clicked (right one) makes another new tab which pushes the first tab (left link) to the right. Then I vote left to right also. Which does reverse them since the left link ends up in the rightmost tab.

So here they are left to right as they are in my sig.

Top PBBGs - 5th
World PBBGs - 4th

Well voting seemed to be sporadic throughout last year. So now that my tags are back intact how 'bout we try to make a bit of a sprint towards the finish for this year and get in the "mood" and make a Srythian New Year's Resolution and endeavor to VOTE FOR SRYTH. :)

We probably won't gain any places for this year but we could lose a spot, plus there are "all time" rankings as well.

spencer
12-30-2011, 07:21 PM
I voted for both just now. I am assuming that last week's totals are still up as Sryth is not listed as having any votes at all.

Oldschool
12-30-2011, 07:31 PM
Can't recall how the weekly votes are totaled but the daily seem to be tallied once a day (guessing at that sites server reset). But now that I think about it I seem to recall the daily votes being "viewable" after each day so the weekly might be a running total for this past week. I'm not sure about that last bit, but we should know in a day or so when the vote site's server resets.
