On Friday, July 24 2009, my wife and I lost one of our boy's to cancer. (please see attached picture)
Ripley was born Sept. 1994 along with his brother (Boomerang). He also has a sister Patty who turned 17 in the spring.
It's amazing how ones pet can become more than just a pet, they can become your whole life. We are all having a hard time dealing with our loss.
At the moment, I feel no joy in anything that I do including playing the game. I don't know how much I'll be around the game or the boards for a while (even though I'll try to keep up with Scout's daily CHR runs).
I hope to be back in full force soon.

I can only pass on my well wishes, Scout... and offer an anecdote that explains why I can sympathise with your loss.
I was never particularly fond of cats. One day, I found myself custodian of house that came complete with a tomcat named Ziggy. Once Ziggy grew to accept my presence (and I grew to accept his), we actually became good friends.
The owner of the house eventually sold it and I moved to a different city. Ziggy moved to the ownership of a friend who lived on a farm. I told myself that farm life would be far more enjoyable for Ziggy than apartment living in a totally unfamiliar city, which wasn't unreasonable.
I didn't see Ziggy for a long time until I visited the friend who owned the farm some 16 months later. I don't know if Ziggy held any vestige of recognition for me, but he certainly didn't acknowledge me.
I was affected by that... a sense of loss. As far as a cat and a man can share a friendship, we did for a little while. That was now gone.

I'm so sorry. Losing a pet can be, no- IS hard. I don't know what I would do without my cat, Bella. Again, I'm sorry and I passed my sympathy on by repping you.

I, too, am sorry. I can sympathize in a way..
I usually never get attached to animals, but we had this one cat that was a stray living under our house, and I eventually got it to where it was comfortable being around humans (talk about a project..). Anyway, I didn't really get attached to that cat, but it ended up having kittens, and there was this little, fat, white one that I immediately took a liking to. We ended up taking all the other cats to the Humane Society, but we kept that one. It turned out that the cat was quite literally mental, and liked to scratch the living daylights out of anything and everything (this is not why we deduced that it had a mental problem, btw). It would tear up the window blinds and my dad was worried that it would end up messing up the furniture. Soooo one night when I was asleep, my parents take the cat (which I had become quite fond of, by this point) and dump it outside at the park in our city. I was pretty ticked off, to say the least, upon learning this. I realize it was probably not good to keep the cat around, but I could've at least been notified of this decision, I think.
Needless to say, I've learned not to become attached to animals anymore.
Again, I'm sorry for your loss, Scout.

@ Scout: like I said, I'm sorry. life and death are two things we can all count on. And I'm not saying that you can ever replace a special friend, but getting a new cat might help you feel better. Feel free to yell at me, if it will make you feel better. I won't take it personally.
@ Matman: That's just cruel. They could at least have taken it to the shelter. And they should have told you BEFORE they did it.

Someday maybe, but not for quite a while. Patty and Boomerang probably wouldn't forgive us......

I forget who said this, but "'Tis better to have loved and lost then to never have loved at all."

Sorry, Scout. I've been through that, too.
