It's time for another month of random chat.

Something about the way you worded that made me smile :)
But in random news, just got a 57-page booklet from MIT in the mail earlier today. Which is exciting to me because I've been thinking about that as a possible college choice, and it's nice that they at least noticed me finally.

As much as I like the new Forum, I miss the old one.

I go back there every once in a while and see Barn42 helping out others that are still posting there.

I think back to when I use to look at the first pages in a particular section and read old posts from the beginning of the game/forum, wondering what those people would think of the game now if they were to come back.

Sometimes I or Oldschool would even revive the old threads because they are as relevant now as they were then, they just happened to die down in favor of new threads and were lost a few pages beyond where anyone looked and were forgotten.

The next part is selfish, but it's also part of why I miss the old forum.

I don't like giving up my 2,460 posts (3rd top poster in less than 9 months). All of those posts taught me how to type (without looking at my fingers) and I am grateful for that.

Also my 139 Karma rating. (especially since I was negative several points at one time). That number shows that I can be helpful even though sometimes I don't feel that I am.

End of selfish part...................

I think part of the longing for the old forum is that some of our "family" is missing, even though some of them went missing before the new forum was even up and running. (Blackcrowe, Shalok-Gul, and others). Some just don't seem to be posting much, if at all.

I know it's probably not possible, and Havoc already said it wasn't going to happen, but I think I would feel better if the old threads could have been migrated to the new forum.

I fear that someday they will be deleted and lost to us forever.........

Just some of my thoughts, thanks for reading...

Necrothreader. That's not a bad thing either. Hey, is Barn42 trying to get them to the new forum?

EDIT: I HATE U-HAUL! Well, not u-haul, but one of their clients. We have truck reservations (made online). The guy returned it late. He didn't even leave the keys. So now we're stuck waiting on the keys. We have the truck, just not the keys. Grr.

Hotwire it, and tell them that the worker who dropped it off showed you how to! And then he tried to sell you illicit substances!

No, no, these are horrible suggestions, and you'll probably end up sued.

He's having trouble using the new one. I don't think he likes it.......

I have to admit, I visited the old forum to pick out the relevant posts for my "12 Badstench Moments" thread... and there were 6 new private messages that had been unread.

These were from new players asking various questions. I felt bad I hadn't helped them, and wondered if they now have the idea that I'm a git.

I've also been copying all the "Green Door" posts to my word processor (yes, I'm still working on the re-writes).

However... I'm not so keen on transferring the old threads to the new forum. We had a clean slate to start with, and my brain likes the fact that all the old, useless clutter has been swept away (admittedly, so has all the useful stuff, but "cei la vie").

The U-Haul mention reminds me of a few things and since this is random chat I'll not have to throw in something relevant to meet my own "loophole" - lol.

I worked a stint for them loading packing and hauling while I was in college. The boss would underbid everything to get the job and we often would go to jobs without enough truck or sometimes trucks and more than a few times had to move pianos including grands without a piano dolly among other things while he sat in the office. Needless to say I didn't work there long.

A buddy of mine told me this story when I was helping him move (different time). He was moving once (long ago) and rented a U-Haul and wanting to save money was going to skip getting the insurance. His Dad had drove him there to pick up the truck and kept harping on him to get the insurance.

While moving he went through a railroad underpass neglecting to use the bypass. He went through with part of the truck - yep the truck was too high to clear it and the top peeled back like a sardine can.

Lucky for him he listened to his Dad.

Like Scout it's a bit melancholy to go back to the old forum for many of the same reasons, especially the part about familiar faces. Probably, more so for some of the "older" players I imagine.

I don't even want to fathom what that would have cost had he not gotten the insurence.

For some reason, the past few times I've helped a friend move, they always chose to move into a four story walk up. With narrow doorways. Getting a couch through my friend's second apartment was fun, we had to take it off the hinges and pray it didn't get stuck on the way through. Which it did. Countless times.

The oddest one I've had yet is when I crashed over at a childhood friend of mine's house, and we were woken up the next morning during a blizzard by his then girlfriend to help her and her family move right then. It was so impromptu, and there was so much stuff crammed into her sedan it was hard to traverse. On top of that, the highways were thick with snow, so we barely moved an inch every five minutes.

But, they always pay me with free beer(the best beer), and that's all that matters. :)

I see, while I have been gone, some interesting things have happened.
I missed out on the copper weapons, however I see Shawdowblack still uses his trusted DEMONSCOURGE, so I dont feel to bad.
I did lose some points in my standing, time to get back to trucking, and back into the game.
Vacation was good while it lasted, but time to make some money, hunting season is right around the corner.;););)

Found this interesting.

Google your forum and/or character(s) name(s). If it's common like mine add Sryth in there and you may want to also use a shortened version of your name if you normally do so.

my results:
Thingirl sryth (you can guess why I put Sryth in): A bunch of stuff on the forum/ wiki and 2 or 3 things in Chinese/ Japanese.
Alanne sryth: 4 things: my siggie, Questions for the GM, and two Hall of Fame entries.

I'll get around to the others later.

Here's a question: Moving experiences.

I recently moved states and it's been hectic. With the boxes, getting the old house sold, the heat in Memphis compared to SW IN... And we moved because dad got a job at St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.

Has anyone else moved a long distance (or short distance, it doesn't matter) (to and from Collage doesn't count) and like to share their XP?

I know Paladin went through a long distance move.

I just moved all the way from India to London. And yes, my house is still strewn with boxes. :)

Basement's still full of unopened boxes from the last move from an apartment, which was...half a decade ago. :[

I moved across the country (or between countries) about eight times in four years while I was in college, not counting your basic trips home for the holidays and whatnot. What I found from experience was that the easiest thing to do was pack the essentials and/or most valuable things in a suitcase you can take with you, and Fedex or UPS the rest.

Sometime over the next few months we're moving from the UK to Moscow, and at the moment I'm trying to get my head round Russian customs regulations (there's a thing about having to declare anything that counts as a 'cultural artefact', otherwise they might not let you take it out of Russia later).

At the moment, I'm seeing the whole thing as a chance to have a big clear-out and get rid of twenty years' worth of accumulated junk. It's really useful - makes me look at stuff and work out what I need, what I want, and what I just own for no particular reason.

Moving IS a good time to get rid of junk. Don't forget to learn the lauguage. I'm to lazy to get out the online keybord. Prevyat= Hello, Dasvedanya= Goodbye.

I've moved so often that I've become quite good at being ruthless with "things". My philosophy is, "if it ain't got an everyday use, then it gets left behind, given away, sold, or dumped".

As you might imagine, any shred of sentimentality I might have once possessed got swallowed up by this philosophy... but moving is a real breeze!

From my mom's prospective: When you've got a husband, 3 "young" kids, and a cat, and the husband is already in Memphis, it's a big hassle.

At least some teenage boys from my church came and helped load the truck. And grandma, grandpa, and 2 boy cousins (both young and strong) and the other grandma and grandpa came.

Yesterday, I brought every episode of a popular Chinese TV show for 4 yuan ($.59) and it hasn't even finished airing yet!

I was going to comment on the tendency toward accumulating junk which people always think they're going to need "someday," but you beat me to it. I'm in full agreement with your philosophy. The only things I think are worth preserving are things that can't be replaced, like family photos. Why lug around so much dead weight that will only end up unused in the closet?

Ironically, however, I seem to be a real pack rat as far as Sryth is concerned. My residence is cluttered with stuff I'm keeping but never use.

I agree with this, too. Plus, this forum has many more features, and I always prefer bells and whistles to simplicity.

Yes, I like all the featuers of this forum (and I have been on the old one, sometimes). Like the "flag post" feature. And I'm a packrat in Sryth and RL.

(I have to say this somewhere, so ignore this if you're not in the mood for a whiny teenage brat.)

It was dad's birthday yesterday. My sister was mixing paint, so mom layed down some paper on the kitchen floor and we fingerpainted. It wasn't cleanned up untill a few hours ago. Grandma called to wish her son a happy bday. Mom picked up (dad wasn't home yet). Grandma yelled at her for not putting on a whole big sindang to which the whole tri-state area including her were invited. (mind you now, we just moved, and she came down 4 weeks ago.) So mom's pissed off at her and takes it out on me by makeing me clean up the paint. Then she pushes a bunch of stuff off of the table and says clean that up too. And that's AFTER she said "you can't have any cake either".
