If you unequip the Ice Shield, does it still deteriorate?
I ask because, I want to buy a better shield from Tallys'.
Will I still have to keep an eye on the ice sheild?

Unequip? Yes, it can still melt.
If you store it? I have no idea.

Try it and see. And is it possible for the shield to melt down and dissipate completely?

No the Ice Shield does not melt if it is in storage. I have had mine in storage for about 5 months now and it is still frozen.

Aha! That's the very answer I wanted to hear.

;) Actually a legitimate necro as I didn't want to make another thread and the tag search yielded no others.
Another Ice Shield question/observation.
I've noticed that if my Ice Shield's melting and I repair/restore it my MR/SP doesn't go back to it's normal range. However, if I unequip it and restore it while unequipped then my stats are "normal" when I reequip it.
Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this. While it's been this way for quite some time I can't recall if this is been standard or not. However, I don't think it is as I don't recall any mention of this before.
Initially I thought it was tied to the temporary boosts from Fogbough but I'm pretty sure that it's independent of them. Not sure as I haven't kept good track of the Fogbough bonuses when I've had a melting Ice Shield.

It's the same for me. As far as I can recall, it always has been. And it's nothing to do with the Fogbough bonuses - it's been months since I bothered to go and get any, and the Ice Shield has behaved the same way during that time.

Thanks Dooli.
I know for various reasons that I've repaired it without unequiping it in the past and therefore didn't get the adjusted stats. I'm guessing (actually pretty certain) at some point the points get added back at some time if you don't unequip it before fixing it.
If that's the case I'm wondering when? And I've tinkered around with the screen and pane and it doesn't seem to be a reload/refresh issue.

From distant memory: the ice shield stats get restored if you save, quit, log back in.

I reported this to the GM long ago, and a couple of times, but doing a hasty search I couldn't find anything here, though I was certain to have mentioned it before... (I might just be too impatient when it comes to searches...)
And the issue might not be an isolated one - it could be linked to various SP and NV stats failing to readjust when switching items boosting those stats (you are probably aware of several such things: the Hale Blade, various NV-boosting items, etc. - although some may have already been fixed).
I didn't press home the matter of this glitch, because:
1) I consider it a relatively minor one compared to others in need of being addressed
2) too many greater things on that plate
3) it's a wrong that is easily made right:
no need to remember unequipping prior to mending, and most definitely no need to quit, log out, and back in.
All you need to do after you're done repairing the shield, is simply unequip, then re-equip it right away, in two short clicks. That's it. :)
And Dooli's right: it has absolutely nothing to do with Fogbough, or any other place for that matter, as this is not a location-specific glitch, but one strictly tied to the bits reading your equipment's stat-boosting attributes and the ones updating your character's stats on the fly.
Like I said: repair -> unequip -> re-equip. ;)
[edit] Oh, and Dooli is right about the other thing as well: it's not something new (same as the related behaviour of some of those other stat-boosting items isn't recent).
And you are right as well, OS: refreshing. reloading the screen won't do a thing, as it's not the display of those values that happens to fail, but the actual updating of your character's stats - so no matter how many 'refreshes,' you'll just keep seeing your character's actually 'stunted' stats being displayed accurately again and again (and luckily, else you wouldn't be aware that they were stunted! :)).
I hope this helps 'get your groove back.' ;)

It does. Or simply unequp and reequip after restoring works too.
EDIT: Oops! Didn't see TC had already replied!

Has anyone ever experimented to see what happens if it melts all the way?
Hate to see the shield turn into just a puddle of water.

save quit and then log in. or sometimes refresh works.

It's already been answered, for bleep's sake! Read the posts! :D
Refresh doesn't work, OS says so himself, having tried - it's not the issue anyway.
And you don't have to travel to a SAFE location, save, quit, log out, log back in, load the game - none of that...
Just un-, then re-equip the Ice Shield after it's repaired.
"Hey, Gringo! PEW-PEW! iEs una pistola láser! iEstás muerto!" :D
I did let it go as far as 256 XPs worth of melting damage, then I got fed up, or lost my nerve - whichever.
Maybe it turns into a magical mystery puddle... :)
Worth some 64,000 XPs, maybe?... :)
Has anyone tried?... I doubt it: why carry around a useless piece of added weight for what could be quite a long time? And it doesn't melt while in storage, so you'd have to be carrying it round!...
Still: did anyone try?... :)
