View Full Version : Ezerok is back

Apparently, quickstone autorest no longer protects you from Ezerok and his dreams and/or minions.

But does that mean you can find him too? Well, of to explore the relms at random. Yes, Alanne's young enough that she's never even met Ezerok.

If his campfire's back in that would definitely be nice as none of my secondaries have found it. Hawk refused his offer of service, erm servitude. However, evil Voltan would definitely join "the flock" and Esoteric and Virago may cave (actually their handler ;)) at the "free" xp especially since they see limited play.

Hmmmm who, or what, is Ezerok?

As you can guess I have not met Ezerok with any of my characters (2) so far.

Ezerok is an evil elemental that could be found by explore the realms at random. As far as I know he is not in the game for players to find at this time.

you happen upon a campfire that has been recently abandoned. The bed of coals beneath the pieces of fire-blackened wood still glows bright red.

To get him to show himself you will need to use a power.

For those of you that aren't familiar with Ezerok here is one of the old forum links.

http://shadowwolf47.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=talk&action=display&thread=4363&page=1

It seems he is still on hiatus as it seems his encounter and the subsequent sleep disturbances are separate events. He is/was one of the few content items that currently involve(d) alignment.

Also this isn't the first time he's gone "missing", although this time his suspension is related to a "bug(s)".

Once you meet/met him you could either choose to join him or refuse his offer of servitude. Also there's been speculation fueled by hints from the GM that serving Ezerok could have future ramifications especially in regards to Palk.

Aside from these issues there is/was some significant XP involved for serving Ezerok.

Copy/paste from a section of a post by Havoc on the old forum.

XP +1,025 You've been awarded a total of 1,025 Experience...
393 xp applied to general...
632 xp applied to Unarmed Combat...

XP +2,048 You've been awarded a total of 2,048 Experience...
2,048 xp applied to Elementalism...

XP +2,048 You've been awarded 2,048 Experience...
2048 xp applied to All Skills and Powers...

The GM also made a hint that the people that chose to serve him may have the chance to get back their soul.

If you found a campfire and never used the right power to call him you should be able to find the campfire again.

Sorry folks the xp pimping demon hasn't returned - not yet anyways.

Double post warning.....

Posted in the Halloween Events thread also. Considering the topic it bears posting here as well.

Aren't your characters also followers of Ezerok, Oldschool? If so, I wouldn't be so sure that following Palk is going to help that much... ;)

No, Hawk turned down his offer (as well as all that "free" xp primarily from a strict rp standpoint) and until the autorest was often visited by him and his henchthingy. Although his followers were often visited similarly if they strayed from the "demonic" alignment. Ezerok went for his demonic delousing and vasectomy (being de-bugged/fixed ;)) before any of the alternates were able to find his campfire and had to ponder the decision of rp'ing vs. easy xp for sparsely played secondaries. However, evil Voltan's mind is made up. Easy xp or not, he just has to find the campfire.

In fact Hawk inquired about about Ezerok in general and more specifically that very dilemma - that of followers of Palk that decided to serve Ezerok.

From Questions to the GM November/December '08, January '09 and February '09.

Spoiled to save space.

Nov & Dec 08....

The great adventurer Hawk (oldschool) was first to step forward and ask: “Regarding Ezerok's sudden reappearance: Is it just part of the Halloween surprises or was Halloween just the launch date for further Ezerok developments.

Answer: Ezerok's sudden reappearance wasn't related to the Halloween events, and there are plans for him to play a role going forward.

Also can we expect further developments with Ezerok. More importantly, can we expect different "things" for those that refused to serve him vs. his supporters? As in, xp awards/possibilities for his refuters comparable at least to those that his followers received.”

Answer: Those who refused to serve Ezerok can expect a different role with regards to Ezerok, going forward. His supporters may be rewarded for their efforts by Ezerok himself, while those who deny him may find themselves rewarded by another entity.

That prompted Ehrmlyn (mattman20) to follow up with: “I chose to serve Ezerok, but I'm wondering if maybe we'll get to betray him?”
Answer: Yes, such an option would make sense, but it would certainly serve to induce the wrath of someone like Ezerok!

Jan 09....

While Scout was asking his question, Hawk stood back thinking. When Scout finished, Hawk looked around to see if anyone was going to step up. When it appeared that none was, he stepped forward again and asked, “I was wondering about expansion of Kyul-Thanor and Lothern, specifically the ‘not yet playables’ Kaskurn the mage and militia training yard. Also, what about increasing the power of imbuable items and icons.”

Answer: Kyul-Thanor is on my list of pending updates, but it’s quite a ways down on that list. It will be expanded once some of the other more pressing pending matters are cleared up.

“Also considering my previous question regarding Ezerok last month, I’m curious about any ramifications for those that chose to serve Ezerok that are also Disciples of Palk. Moreover, could the refuters of Ezerok expect a similar reward from Palk for remaining steadfast or since Palk is ‘The Wrath of The All-Father’, could Ezerok’s minions expect a lesson of said wrath?”

Answer: An interesting point. Palk is not likely to approve of anyone who chooses to serve Ezerok. And Palk has the tendency, as you can well imagine, to become angry over such things -- very angry! Palk will certainly take into consideration rewards for his steadfast followers.

Feb 09....

Silk and Shadowblack looked at each other and said something no one else could hear. They stood up together and Silk said, "I just to follow up on one of the GM's answers: Will those adventurers who strayed from the teachings of Palk (like those who forgot about him since the realm has essentially sat fallow for almost a year) be able to grovel in a suitable manner and perhaps embark upon a quest to renounce Ezerok and regain Palk's favor?"

Shadowblack continued with, "Yes, what about those of us who intended to betray Ezerok from the very beginning? I never intended to really serve, I just wanted the experience. Plus, to stab someone in the back you must first get close enough, and since Ezerok is immortal directly fighting him won't get us very far while 'serving' him could allow us to find a way to bring him down permanently... I'm sure Palk wouldn't really mind..." The pair looked at each other and nodded then sat back down.

Answer: Ezerok will take on a more important role quite soon. The worship of the powerful elemental deity/being might well be more widespread than any imagine.

Regardless of one's choice to serve or not. Regardless of character alignment you gotta love the potential with this, especially given the GM's answers. Along with the Valour concept of Runeskin this could be a chance to see alignment come into play - even if only during the specific event(s). The only downer is Ezerok's extended absence, especially in light of the following: "Ezerok's sudden reappearance wasn't related to the Halloween events (poster edit: this is in reference to Halloween '08), and there are plans for him to play a role going forward. Ezerok will take on a more important role quite soon."

Don't get too excited folks I haven't found the smouldering campfire. However I haven't manually rested for quite some time so I decided to rest a bit. On the fifth rest with Hawk who refused Ezerok's offer.....

You wake with a start to find yourself lying on a cold stone floor in a large circular, windowless chamber. At least a hundred torches adorn the walls of this room, which to your dismay appears to have no exit. A soft hiss from the left unnerves you, and you turn to find that you are not alone. Hovering only inches above the floor, less than ten yards from you is the sinister elemental deity, Ezerok (http://javascript%3Cb%3E%3C/b%3E:OpenInfoWindow%28%27ezerok%27%29;).

"Well met again, Hawk," he hisses.
"I promised you torment, human," hisses Ezerok. "Allow me to deliver on that pledge."
The fiery deity waves his flaming hand an a loud roar shakes the chamber.
You turn in the direction of the fearsome sound to behold a towering beast of flame stomping in your direction. The winged terror, perhaps thrice the size of an ogre, wields a sword of flame and has large wings that seem to be made out of thick, black smoke.
You've barely had time to gather your wits when the beast of fire suddenly charges at you, cutting broad strokes through the air with his deadly blade.

[And after defeating his minion....]

Ezerok laughs as the fire demon emits a painful shriek and vanishes.
"Your torment does not end here," he hisses. "We shall meet again, Hawk..."
Suddenly, everything goes black.
You wake up screaming...

That's the dream sequence that folks that refused Ezerok's offer and the associated AS&P xp rewards get.

The characters that chose to accept his offer and the AS&P reward get a different dream sequence but only if they stray from a Demonic alignment. If you accept his offer you alignment automatically jumps to Demonic. You also get iirc 2048 xp to Elementalism and 2048 xp to AS&P.

And courtesy of some necrothreading of the old forum here's the "dream" text for those that chose to serve him.

"Does not my mere presence buoy your spirits?" laughs Ezerok. "Perhaps I need to remind you that are are mine, to be summoned at will, and done with as I please..."

The fiery deity reaches out and envelops you in his flaming grasp.

You suddenly feel a bit more wicked...

"There, that's more to my liking," he hisses. "Now, begone, lest I grow tired of your presence."

Ezerok's arm shoots forward, unleashing a massive bolt of flame that strikes you square in the chest. The impact lifts you off your feet and sends you tumbling backwards.

SP -210 You've lost 210 Stamina Points.

You wake up screaming...

* Please continue...

Iirc this leaves those characters with 1 SP and I think you only get this if you stray from a Demonic alignment.

Good point but I thought the GM may have taken him completely out after responding to questions re: his "vasectomy" ;) as I periodically rest manually in moderate spurts to check and haven't seen him for some time.

Considering the interest in him and his campfire as well as the potential I think the GM will give us an announcement or hint when (positive dejinxing thoughts) he's reintroduced in full.

Oldschool, John Ardin tells me that he's just itching to beat you over the head with a hammer. Ezerok is NOT friendly, nor does he have your best interests in mind. Take your positive dejinxing thoughts elsewhere.

(Okay, now that my roleplaying urge has been satisfied, I do wonder what Ezerok will think of next. My question is not when he will return in full, or new-and-improved, it's...will he return with a challenge? John's getting tired(sorry, bad pun) of fighting that pathetic fire demon. He can beat that thing in his sleep!(Okay, that one was intentional.:p) Ezerok doesn't seem to get the hint that it's not ever going to beat him. John, as you may have guessed, does not serve Ezerok, and so is not in it for the rewards or anything, he just relishes the challenge of pummeling him, and putting him back where he belongs.)

Actually to get that encounter you have to first find his abandoned campfire during Explore the Realms at Random (which is currently removed from the game unless it's been put back in recently) and either choose to serve or not serve Ezerok. This is done by making him appear after channeling Elementalism.

Either can result in your sleep being disturbed randomly when resting manually.

If you refute him you'll get text about him punishing you as he sets a minion on you and if you chose to serve him and stray from a Demonic alignment he'll visit you and put you back on a Demonic path. Iirc both are actual sleep events as you wake up screaming.

There's a link to a thread on the old forum early in this thread for those interested.

I agree Billy. Although Hawk refused him with no regrets I'd like to see him reintroduced. Even if it is just the campfire. Voltan would definitely join the flock - not sure about the alts.

And not just because the alts have yet to run that but I think there is some awesome potential there especially considering the GMs replies in relation to him and Disciples of Palk. Plus he indicated Ezerok would play a larger role moving forward.

And considering that I wonder if at least part of the reason he was removed was because the autorest negates the dramatic impact of his visits. It also impacted Stoneskin Fever similarly which has been removed as well. I can't help but see a correlation between the two even if it might just be my imagination.

If that's the case I'd personally rather see the autorest removed - permanently if need be.

You must have found the campfire first.

Oldschool
10-12-2010, 11:22 AM
As Shadowblack said you have to have found the smoldering campfire and use Elementalism which will summon him. Then you have the option to join him or not. If you refuse he invades your dreams on resting and if you choose to serve and stray from a Demonic alignment he comes a calling to 'correct' your behavior.

10-12-2010, 07:06 PM
Yeah but tell him the truth. The campfire he used to be at was removed from the game, so you can't find him. I missed the campfire when it was there then the GM removed it and it hasn't been back since. so don't waste your time Texty looking for the campfire.

Good point Billy although I'm pretty sure Tex has been around long enough to know via the forum that Ezerok's campfire has been removed due to bugs I'm not positive - although it is mentioned earlier in the thread.

Also newer members certainly won't have this knowledge unless they read all the old posts which can be unrealistic for some threads.

EDIT: Optimistic moment with a *DEJINX* threw in for good measure......

That's why I reminded Texty that he was still missing, because the post from Scout and Shadowblack were kind of giving people the impression that he was back. Shaddow mentioned how you had to find the fire and do what needs to be done and Scout mentioned about resting. I knew scout had met him from the past so I didn't want Texty to think he was back, because I knew the players that had met him continue to meet him when they rest.

Bump after "testing" for a possible related question to the GM in that thread.

After manually resting Hawk a few dozen times over two locations each,

You wake with a start to find yourself lying on a cold stone floor in a large circular, windowless chamber. At least a hundred torches adorn the walls of this room, which to your dismay appears to have no exit. A soft hiss from the left unnerves you, and you turn to find that you are not alone.

Hovering only inches above the floor, less than ten yards from you is the sinister elemental deity, Ezerok.

After defeating one of his underlings,

Ezerok laughs as the fire demon emits a painful shriek and vanishes.

"Your torment does not end here," he hisses. "We shall meet again, Hawk..."

Suddenly, everything goes black.

You wake up screaming...

And for those that chose to serve,

That's the dream sequence that folks that refused Ezerok's offer and the associated AS&P xp rewards get.

The characters that chose to accept his offer and the AS&P reward get a different dream sequence but only if they stray from a Demonic alignment. If you accept his offer you alignment automatically jumps to Demonic. You also get iirc 2048 xp to Elementalism and 2048 xp to AS&P.
