Poor Ice Troll cave rewards

Oh dear I have read about the wonderous loot and rewards for the Cave of the Ice Troll yet in my limited experience in running through it (2 runs so far) the loot and rewards are very poor. Only got 64/32XP's and the poor loot only sold for 159 gold. The only good thing found was a pair of Splint Boots of superior quality :(.

The brigands require a throw of 11+ so I had to retreat to rest three times :rolleyes: so I did really expect a better return :confused: Oh well the shield is slightly more visable so I suppose it's back again, probably Thursday evening now as I will be out tomorrow and not have access to the puter.

Just so you know you will have to do the Ice Troll Cave many times before you are able to get the Ice Shield. Here is the link to the Wiki.

Still, 159 gold is a rather poor haul, I usually make like 4 or 500 gold on a single moonpath run.

When dad told me to visit CHR 7 days in a row, he said it was 40 times to defeat the troll.

There was some uncertainty at first as to how many times were going to be required before getting the shield. When the first few players went over 30 times, there was speculation that it was going to be 40. Perhaps your dad was remembering that, or simply misremembered how many it took.

Ok well have just ran the Ice Cave again and whacked the troll. Have found the following:-

Axe (common)
Broad Sword (common)
Club (common)
Spiked Club (common)
Cutlass (sturdy)
War Axe (sturdy)

See what I mean :eek: this one was even worse than the last one. In fact I would say the rewards are crap :mad:

Well you will get some good items from there at some point. I have had a couple of runs where I did not even get 1 item and not even that much gold. On my last run I got a unmatched Plate Helm. Just keep your eyes on the big prize. The Ice Shield is well worth the time I think.

I never expect much in the way of gold from the Ice Cave, but given the minmum AS&P reward is 32 (off the top of my head) it's a better bet than Axepath or Yir-Tanon for the xp.

The reason to do it, like smv says, is the shield.

The Shield is what I am after now as I am using a conjured shield right not and am on my second one as the first just vanished :eek: having sold the AT shield back to Tally's and replaced them with Dragon Gem Sleeves and Greeves.

Oh well it's getting time to visit the Ice Cave again.

Yeah. Some games (especially those based on AD&D) have restrictions as to which classes of characters can wear which kinds of armor. In those kinds of games, a character that can't wear anything better than padded armor would be thrilled to find some unmatched padded.

But those kinds of games generally let you play a party of up to six or so characters, so the magic-users stuck with padded armor are at least accompanied by some fighters who can wear plate mail.

So yeah, in a single-character game like this where any character can wear any armor, unmatched padded is pretty useless -- unless you're just about to set foot outside of Hawklor for the first time... :cool:

Hmmmm I seem to recall that one player was trying to collect all the Unmatched pieces of equipment. I have a fair collection including some duplicates so I shall be selling them to Gryphook as he seems to offer the most for them. Meanwhile I have just scraped enough XP's together to train Shadow Magic to level 70. That makes the third power to reach level 70 for Plezier.

Time to work on some others to bring them up ;) ..... Mind you I still need to acquire Unarmed as skill as well as Diplomacy :rolleyes: so far I have sufficed with bashing those I need to haggle with :D or stealing from them :).

Doh!!! well that was my first run today.... yeah i know you onyl get one run but you get two or more IF your connection fails whilst traveling to somewhere safe to save and you have to restart ..................Grrr My second run was far worse in rewards:-

Sorry to hear your Ice Cave rewards are even worse than mine :(. I have not run through it as yet today as we had to go to town and when we got back with some time to play on the computer I had :-

To complete for the restoration of the Wand Of Dragonfire which I have just done. I am not thinking whether I should have stolen the Copper Coins for the trader or should I have purchased the Map? ..................... Hmmm decisions, decisions :confused: :rolleyes:

By stealign the map i got the wand restored and was rewarded with :-

Neither Ln and Sae have reached the cave yet. Zm has already gotten his ice shield though.

Hmmm well I have some way to go to equal your power and skill levels :o but I have just completed my Ice Cave run for today :D and as I recently got my Shadow magic up to level 70 I could actually use it to help with the Troll. Before I had been dodging it's attacks :eek:. I can now see what you all mean by the XP's that can be obtained ny using powers in the cave:-

Just so you know: you get 136, 140 or 144 combat experience if you defeat the troll without using powers (except Restoration).

I think you can get it if you use Fortification also, though I am not sure. Any other powers, you get significantly less.

I thought it was 12. And if you look, Zm's skills are all 70, except for weaponry and slashing. And his powers are all 60s and 70s.

My powers are all at 70 or higher (except gateing at 69). :p
