When battling Undead in the BHC and in tombs, crypts and the Forrest. Sometimes I have been rewarded with Wood and in one case Bone Icons. Now I brought some Imbuable items like a breastplate, sword and dagger but in all honesty I cannot see tha advantage in them.

I brought them as I thought it might help me unlock more things to do in Shadowedge but so far it has not

And more confusing is the fact that despite it obviously being a re-playable area so far I have not noticed it mentioned anywhere on the forums.

If there is a thread for it then I'll say sorry for opening up a new one now! :o

Good catch! I think we all forget about this one. And Doomwall is a loose end, so there's nothing else in Kyul-Thanor. On another note, I got my first bone icon a few days ago :)

I and others I'm guessing hope that icons are "underdeveloped" as there is mucho potential in Kyul-Thanor alone - improving the icons and imbuable items would be a nice extra. For a quick imbuable item icon improvement  I still say we should be able to buy all armour items not just torso armour - especially belts.

Regarding Ezerok's mention in this thread I'm reminded of the GM's response to Hawk's question of those choosing to serve both Ezerok and Palk and those that held fast to Palk's principles.

Question (paraphrased from the wiki):

I’m curious about any ramifications for those that chose to serve Ezerok that are also Disciples of Palk. Moreover, could the refuters of Ezerok expect a similar reward from Palk for remaining steadfast or since Palk is ‘The Wrath of The All-Father’, could Ezerok’s minions expect a lesson of said wrath?”

Answer:

An interesting point. Palk is not likely to approve of anyone who chooses to serve Ezerok. And Palk has the tendency, as you can well imagine, to become angry over such things -- very angry! Palk will certainly take into consideration rewards for his steadfast followers.

The GM also did make a mention that the people serve Ezerok may have the chance to get back on Palk's good side.

Correct also on a previous month's questions Nov/Dec 08 I think someone (again I think it was Mattman) asked if those that chose to serve would get a chance to betray him. Can't recall verbatim but the short answer was that it may be possible.

Hard to pin the GM down. :)

I think it was Shadowblack that asked the question. I think he said he only made the choice to serve just because of the exp but never really wanted to be a servent of Ezerok.

Hmmm well as I never encountered Ezerok I know nothing about "him" however I did become Plaks chosen one it seems hence the Icons that keep appearing in my inventory. So far I have obtained:-

Wood Icon Of The Troll

Wood Icon Of The Dancing Rogue x 2

Wood Icon Of Phantasmal Wrath

Wood Icon Of Legendary Agility

Wood Icon Of Heroic Ability x 2

Wood Icon Of Enhanced Mind

Wood Icon Of Demonfire

Bone Icon Of Impossible Luck

Pluse these which I attached to the Longsword:-

Affixed Nevernal Icons:
* Wood Icon of Entangling Vines

* Wood Icon of Heroic Ability
Agility +1, Body +1, Mind +1, Might +1, Spirit +1

It seems that I really need more Bone icons and one that give MR and SP boost would be most welcome ;)

As Elrond states, painstakingly random. Now that I think about it their appearance rate seems to have dropped from before. Of course that could just be my random luck or lack thereof.

However I've noticed as others have that they seem to appear in spurts or clusters. You'll get a few to several over a relatively short period then nothing for a considerable length of time.

The other day Lili Silvat got her first Iron icon :

Iron Icon Of Biting Frost (Use)

* Class: Icon, Iron
* Usable With: Weapons
* Encumbrance: 0
* Power: Biting Frost

This small, square, glowing icon, is crafted out of solid iron. It's obvious that this strange object is not of this world.
The likeness of an icy wind is etched onto its surface

Anyone else have this one? I notice people mostly discuss Wood and Bone icons exclusively. Lili has a treasure chest full of wooden icons, only a handful of bone icons and just the one iron (didn't even know they existed lol).

Actually, any regular combat spot (grinders). I don't think the one time only or PG's are tied to the icons. Lately though, I've been getting one almost every time I run Yir-Tannon. I seem to get a Battle Marker there every time I get an Icon as well.

Um, think about the meaning of 'random' here: if you admit they're random, you're actually saying that there is no 'most likely spot' :)

(Also, bear in mind that the way the game stands at the moment they're not really worth anything. There are better weapons and armour available than anything you can create using these icons, so their only real value is the 16xp to Arcana you get from identifying them. I tend to see them as an idea the GM had a while back that then got superseded by later ideas.)

I remember reading in an old Questions that the GM was going to expand Kyul-Thanor and icons "soon". Guessing he got sidetracked since. Iirc Merzaryl was mentioned as a possible icon buyer/trader.

shadowblack
05-01-2010, 09:42 PM
Actually, he said that it would get expanded after Saargard and Fogbough, so...

EDIT: From the Questions for the GM, a couple of answers the GM has given in regards to Kyul-Thanor and Icons:
Paladin the Almighty seems to not be satisfied with Tally's best shield and wants to get his hand on Doomwall. Will he see the two other pieces anytime soon? What did he bring as an offering, you ask? Well, he does not quite understand that you are an oracle not a gift-giver - he brought Tally's shield hoping you would give him the other two pieces of Doomwall...I just do not understand how he got the moniker of Almighty...ooowww...do not hit me Paladin...

Answer: The quest to complete Doomwall will arrive, along with the remainder of what has been planned for the realm of Kyul-Thanor, though that won't occur until Saarngard Isle has arrived and is well underway.

Dark is inquiring about icons, "I remember when the adventurer's guild first started, one of the most interesting new features was the introduction of nevernal icons which could be attached to weapons and armour to boost stats or give special attacks. I really liked this aspect of the game, it added some interesting possibilities for specialization…. imbuable equipment is so much less in MR and SP than the weapons and armour available in the rest of the game. Could you please consider adding additional uses for icons into the game, perhaps as items to be used in combat, tradable goods, or some other use?" And Shadowblack slips through with, "Is the GM planning to add another way to obtain Icons (for example Icons can be rewards for completing adventures)?"

A: Yes, the icons have been sorely neglected! There will be a way to trade in unneeded Icons to Mezaryl, who seems to have some sort of mysterious use for them. I will also look at adding new icons, as well as the ability to acquire special/unique/more powerful ones in adventures related to Kyul-Thanor, once work on expansions for that realm resumes.

MOD EDIT: Moved this and several other subsequent posts re: Icons from PG VI/Gallowtop thread.

@ Andras. What do you mean by Icons increasing MR? If you mean Icons as in those awarded randomly in battle you can only attach them to imbuable items from Kyul-Thanor.

Andras
07-12-2010, 12:43 PM
Yeah, those Icons. I would like to make an imbue-able breastplate.

So far, no luck with Icons. I managed to get 6 icons but no good ones.

Doolipalally
07-12-2010, 01:09 PM
The general wisdom is that the imbuable icons are a bit of a game dead-end - something the GM dreamed up which got overtaken by events. I don't know of anyone who actually uses an imbuable item. There's much better gear in the game.

Anyone out there know different?

Andras
07-12-2010, 02:19 PM
If I can get some of the SP and MR Icons, I'll be able to use a decent Torso armor while keeping my AT for other things. If I can pull off getting those Icons (I do realize how long it will be to get those...), it should be a pretty good armor.

With the right icons, you can get...

18 SP and 6 MR to 6 SP and 12 MR. My goal is 14 SP and 8 MR.

12 MR is higher than the most expensive Tally gear, and 14 SP with 8 MR is better than Skull-Studded Jerkin at 216 AT.

So if I can manage to get lucky and get the Imbued Breastplate I want, I will have a great armor. If I only get one of the Icons I want, it isn't a bad armor.
Problem is getting it.

zmflavius
07-12-2010, 02:38 PM
Slight problem. For 6Mr/18SP, you need 3 bone icons of champion spirit. Bone icons in themselves are incredibly rare and champion spirit are extremely rare.

However, for 8 MR and 14 SP, what combination do you plan to use? It might be easier to get.

thingirl
07-12-2010, 02:45 PM
IMO, Icons are NOT the way to go. To get anything useful, you have to get EXTREMELY lucky and play a LOT! The only reasonably attainable use I can see for imbuable stuff is using a cool named weapon in a MP.

Personally, I wouldn't start PG VI until you get the Ice Shield. Because then not only will you get one of, if not the, best free shield in the game, but also you will get those ATs back to use on other stuff.

Andras

Of course, that is a final goal, not a realistic one. I am hoping that, as I work on getting skills and powers maxed, I'll get the icons I need... and hoping on getting one sooner so I can use that armor for MR heh.

I would also focus on getting Slashing up to 90. And if you haven't used the trainer in the Moonshore crossroads (Thaoni ?), get it to 95 and you can use her to train your Slashing, for free, up to level 100. (Save before doing this, because IIRC, it needs random rolls.)

Also, if you're MR concerned, wield your SSx (you're wielding Hale right now). If you don't have a SS weapon Take the weapon you get from Prince Iakor and let Meyzaril in Blade Square take a look at it. You can also dip it in the fountain in Tarn for an extra 2(?) MR.

Don't forget that there are several MR boosts in Tarn and 7 Goblins.
