Rylath and Orgo, soldiers in the Tysian army had been tasked with bringing a notorious poacher captured by Thane Pyrond to Talinus to meet his fate. According to what they had heard, an up-and-coming adventurer had traveled to Northscarp and captured the poacher, before delivering him to the Thane of Trithik. Now, his bound form was stuffed into a sack, while his long-bladed knife was now in the possession of an anonymous merchant in Graldok.

A group of four soldiers dragged the bound goblin into Thane Quarith's chamber and threw him to the ground.

" 'e was carryin' this, milord."
The soldiers stepped forward and put several maps and documents on the table. They appeared to be some goblin war plans.

"Well...haven't seen something like that in a while. Whatever. We can just go out and burn those tribes' camps to the ground. Take this goblin and hang him with the poacher those two soldiers brought in yesterday.

Two nights in the bowels of the King's citadel, reflected Culzor, wasn't nearly as bad as the four hours he'd spent in the Hole of Trithik. Of course, things had took a turn for the worse when they'd thrown that scrawny goblin in and it commandeered the only bed in his cell. Not that it mattered anyways, he was going to be hanged in a few hours. For some reason, the goblin did not seem to be unduly worried about his fate.

************************************************** **************************************************

5 months after he was first incarcerated in the King's dungeons, his sentence of death had still not yet been carried out, no doubt thanks to the wide influence of his master. However, he had the feeling that would change, for a new criminal had just been thrown into his cramped cell, one whom he recognized, and one whom he knew the crowd definitely would demand the execution of immediately.

************************************************** **************************************************

Culzor did not particularly envy sharing his cell with Wambrug the Bandit, who, for the past three months, had raided caravans and convoys in the areas surrounding Talinus with complete impunity. That same insolence resulted in him being captured by a regiment of soldiers who had killed his entire band, but spared him so that the populace of Talinus could enjoy his execution.

"As they will enjoy mine." Culzor thought darkly.

************************************************** **************************************************

Three days later, all three of them were led to outside of Harvest Hall in Talinus, to be given their long over-due sentence. As he glanced through the crowd while the old man read out the charges, he could swear he saw a person who completely matched the description of the adventurer whom the poacher claimed to have been captured by. But there wasn't really any time to be reflecting on that because the guardsmen were already preparing to fit the nooses over the necks of the condemned when suddenly...

************************************************** **************************************************

Culzor glanced briefly to the side and saw that Wambrug the Bandit had broken free of his bonds and had killed the guardsman next to him. However, that wasn't Wambrug...that was a giant, disgusting 12-foot long worm covered with slime and with an ogre's head and arms. The adventurer who'd captured him was now running up to the gallows, probably to deal with that giant monstrosity who'd just killed the other three guards and the old man. At first it looked like the adventurer was going to kill that thing, but then... there was a blinding flash of light, and suddenly he saw that the adventurer had fallen to the ground and the the sword carried by the giant worm had just cut off the adventurer's head. Then, a shadow path opened, and the thing quickly stepped into it followed by the goblin.

************************************************** **************************************************
************************************************** **************************************************

The shocking events of that day had resulted in Culzor receiving a stay of execution indefinitely. A month or so later, he heard two guards having a conversation about how the village of Silverwysp had been razed to the ground and about the amazing botch the Tysian army captain had made there, getting himself and his entire command killed. As soon as a detachment of reinforcements from Graldok arrived, they too, were massacred by the massed armies of the Immortal Ogre Runeskin.

All of a sudden, one guard pulled his sword, and ran the other through, before turning back into the goblin who so long ago, had shared a cell with Culzor.

Is this like, a prelude to A Modest Proposal?

No, I'm actually just wondering what would happen if you die during the Runeskin's minions prelude adventure.

Hmm, it's interesting. I was just getting the "world domination by Runeskin" vibe. I like it.
