Summer is only 9 months away from returning. So, cheer up, enjoy autumn, bundle up, then warm up to spring, and viola summer will be back!

The only thing I don't like about autumn is the return of the school year. I, personally, am handling it fine, but it does reduce the amount that other people can post on Sryth Forums, so it's kind of slow here.

I'm Homeschooled and the school comp. is in the bonus room where nobody can see me and I can hear them coming. And what happened to summer? Dad changed jobs and we had to move to another state, and the house was supposed to close yesterday, but our buyer's buyer didn't have all of her loan paperwork in order. Well, at least I don't have to learn another language. Or worse, another dialect.

That's cool, I use to be homeschooled too. Did me a fair bit of good, I think. I'm excited for school to start again, but I've got another month to go before classes. It gets real quite in college towns when there's no school in session...

Nope, Angelina hasn't moved in with me yet, although that is in the cards at some point, as is marriage I certainly hope. We really seem to click together well. But she's had a very hard life these past fifteen years (she's four years older than I am), what with an abusive husband she's in the process of getting away from. So she does have some understandable trust issues. But this was really quite a shock since we were both shall we say, taking steps. That hints at two possibilities. Either just plain chance or, if you believe in that, that this was meant to happen. Her pregnancy alone was a shock, but then this morning we found out that we're not just dealing with one life here. They're twins.
Elrond
09-03-2009, 10:56 PM
Dang! Twins! You can say goodbye to your Srything days. Better get as much done in the next 9 months as you can. After that, daddy will have 2 hands full!
paladin
09-03-2009, 11:04 PM
You're right about the fact that I won't have much Srything time especially at first, but I still plan on keeping my hands in as much as I can without interfering with that duty. Of course even before that I'm facing the daunting task of breaking the news to my folks. We had a similar situation fifteen years back with my then twenty-year-old brother. But the girl, whether by her own choice or because of her parents, had an abortion. That isn't an option with us because Angelina has some very strong views on that. So do I for that matter. I don't generally agree with abortion unless the mother's life would be endangered otherwise. Angelina doesn't even agree with that but that's her choice. So this is going to be quite the shock to my folks because it'll bring back memories of what happened back then. I know they won't be happy right at first and that's the part that worries me. I'm going to do it when Angelina's with me, but this is still going to be hard.
thingirl
09-03-2009, 11:51 PM
I don't like the fact that she's pregnant and you 2 aren't married yet. Other than that, I rely like both of your views on abortion. I once raised about (US) $700 for my local pro-life clinic. Twins, Oh my, that's just, oh my. I would suggest finding parenting books by an author suggested to you by a friend and having her read them to you. Hey, look on the bright side: She's not Octomom. Good luck with breaking the news.
paladin
09-03-2009, 11:58 PM
I'm aware that some are going to have issues with the fact that we're not married yet. My grandma for one. Of course she'd probably find something about her to criticize even if we were married. She's not intentionally mean but she's not happy if she can't nitpick. The fact that Angelina also has a teenage daughter would probably not sit right with her. Of course she just likes to find things to nitpick about so even if Angelina wasn't pregnant she wouldn't be safe from that.

I was a twin. My father was in the Air Force at the time, so we were born on Okinawa. Besides Mom and Dad, Mom's mother came over to help, and they had a live-in housemaid as well. They said four adults were just about enough to keep up with twins.
So I'd recommend getting as much family assistance as you can once they arrive.
Anyhow, conga-rats on impending fatherhood!

I certainly intend to do just that. As I said the difficult part is going to be breaking the news to the folks. They're not entirely opposed to children outside of wedlock but neither are they exactly in support of it either. But I plan to have the soon-to-be new mother with me when I break the news. We'll just see what happens from there. Angelina did seem pretty sure they would have my hair though.

We've already begun thinking of names, although I've only come up with some for one possible combo. If we have a boy and girl I'd like to honor my close friend Marissa, after whom my in-game character was named, by naming my daughter after her and my son after her twin brother Michael, who regrettably didn't make it.

This is a copy of an E-Mail I just got from a friend of mine. I thought it was nice enough to post here for all to read......
***************
Once upon a time there was a girl who had four boyfriends. She loved the fourth boyfriend the most and adorned him with rich robes and treated him to the finest of delicacies. She gave him nothing but the best.
She also loved the third boyfriend very much and was always showing him off to neighboring kingdoms. However, she feared that
one day he would leave her for another.
She also loved her second boyfriend. He was her confidant and was always kind, considerate and patient with her. Whenever this girl faced a problem, she could confide in him, and he would help her get through the difficult times.
The girl's first boyfriend was a very loyal partner and had made great contributions in maintaining her wealth and kingdom.
However, she did not love the first boyfriend.. Although he loved her deeply, she hardly took notice of him!
One day, the girl fell ill and she knew her time was short. She thought of her luxurious life and wondered, I now have four boyfriends with me, but when I die, will be all alone.'
Thus, she asked the fourth boyfriend, 'I loved you the most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you... Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?
'No way!' replied the fourth boyfriend, and he walked away without another word. His answer cut like a sharp knife right
into her heart.
The sad girl then asked the third boyfriend, 'I loved you all my life. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me
company?'
'No!' replied the third boyfriend. 'Life is too good! When you die, I'm going to marry someone else!' Her heart sank and
turned cold.
She then asked the second boyfriend, 'I have always turned to you for help and you've always been there for me. When I die,
will you follow me and keep me company?'
'I'm sorry, I can't help you out this time!', replied the second boyfriend. 'At the very most, I can only walk with you to
your grave.'
His answer struck her like a bolt of lightning, and the girl was devastated.
Then a voice called out: I'll go with you! I'll follow you no matter where you go!' The girl looked up, and there was her
first boyfriend. He was very skinny, as he suffered from malnutrition and neglect. Greatly grieved, the girl said, 'I should have taken much better care of you when I had the chance!'
In truth, you have four boyfriends in your lives.................
Your fourth boyfriend is your body. No matter how much time and effort you lavish in making it look good, it will leave you when you die..
Your third boyfriend is your possessions, status and wealth. When you die, it will all go to others.
Your second boyfriend is your family and friends. No matter how much they have been there for you, the furthest they can stay
by you is up to the grave.
And your first boyfriend is your spirit. Often neglected in pursuit of wealth, power and pleasures of the world. However, your spirit is the only thing that will follow you wherever you go.
Cultivate, strengthen and cherish it now, for it is the only part of you that will follow you to the throne of God and continue with you throughout Eternity.

Well as for web browsers I use Mozilla FIrefox, partly because I find it so much more responsive than IE, but also because Firefox has a plug-in that allows blind folks to solve those damned Captchas a lot of webmasters use. *********************************
Two Choices
What would you do? .... you make the choice. Don't look for a punch line, there isn't one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same choice?
At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves children with learning disabilities, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After e xtolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question:
'When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does, is done with perfection.
Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do.
Where is the natural order of things in my son?'
The audience was stilled by the query.
The father continued. 'I believe that when a child like Shay, who was mentally and physically disabled comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child.'
Then he told the following story:
Shay and I had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing baseball. Shay asked, 'Do you think they'll let me play?' I knew that most of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but as a father I also understood that if my son were allowed to play, it would give him a much needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others in spite of his handicaps.
I approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, 'We're losing by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning.'
Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile, put on a team shirt. I watched with a small tear in my eye and warmth in my heart. The boys saw my joy at my son being accepted.
In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team score d a few runs but was still behind by three.
In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as I waved to him from the stands.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again..
Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.
At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the game?
Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much less connect with the ball.
However, as Shay stepped up to the
plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside for this moment in Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in softly so Shay cou ld at least make contact.
The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed.
The pitcher again took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay.
As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball right back to the pitcher.
The game would now be over.
The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball to the first baseman.
Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game.
Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's head, out of reach of all team mates.
Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, 'Shay, run to first!
Run to first!'
Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base.
He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.
Everyone yelled, 'Run to second, run to second!'
Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and struggling to make it to the base.
By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the ball. the smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the hero for his team.
He could have thrown the ball to the second baseman for the tag, but he understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball high and far over the third baseman's head.
Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled the bases toward home.
All were screaming, 'Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay'
Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, 'Run to third!
Shay, run to third!'
As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on their feet screaming, 'Shay, run home! Run home!'
Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit the grand slam and won the game for his team
'That day', said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, 'the boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this world'.
Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never forgotten being the hero and making me so happy, and coming home and seeing his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!

well, this has been a fun day... what with arguments... sorry... discussions... the exchanging of views, religion, jokes, and birthdates... I'veclean forgotten to play the game.
As an aside... Judge Fury is currently sequestered at rank #7 on the power character list. I'm sure this will fall because of my non-attendance to gaming in the near future.
However, I note that Magical (Havoc) is still rated #1 despite him not being the strongest character (an accolade which belongs to Thordon... or Elendil (I noticed your MR and SP went higher, you donater, you!).
This makes me wonder... are the rankings on the top Adventurers display decided by total XP earned? That would explain a lot.
Regardless, Badstench is sending out a warning... I have a plan for Judge Fury that will see his MR increase by 11 points. This will happen in approximately 3 weeks, at which time he will make a serious assault on the leaderboards at Zumryn's battlegrounds.

I don't mean to be picky, but.... if you hold your pointer finger upright and blow on it, it's like cooling a gun after Judge Fury has smoked his three letter body part.
Sheesh... my foot better be tasty!

well, this has been a fun day... what with arguments... sorry... discussions...
With that in mind......
(I noticed your MR and SP went higher, you donater, you!).
What say you Young Ned?
I may not stand a chance in the Battleground "rivalry" but I'm attempting to reach legendary status in instigation. ;) And although I consider myself a pretty good wordsmith I'm not about to bandy vocabs with Badstench or Young Ned (nor a few other members) so I'll stick to trying to stir the pot and watching from the sidelines.
At least it wasn't hexa-ma-bob....

This makes me wonder... are the rankings on the top Adventurers display decided by total XP earned? That would explain a lot.
Definitely not. My ranking goes up only when I increase a power, skill, or SP/MR.
You have been duly notorized.
I... feel like there should be a good joke here, but it's not coming to me.

Also, I think it's mostly skill based. So, someone who has 100 in AS&P would be almost an automatic number 1.

She just joined this month and already has more rep than posts. That's what you call a helpful person.......
Have another one on me.....

Thank you Oldschool. :) My new avatar took me about 8 hrs to draw in Photoshop. I thought about posting the larger version in the fan art thread (since it is very empty at the moment), but I will probably start a thread once I have a few more drawings done.

I got another one of "those" E-Mails from a friend to share........
When
you have an 'I Hate My Job day'
[Even if you're retired, you sometimes have those days]
Try this out:
On your way home from work, stop at your pharmacy and go to the thermometer section and purchase a rectal thermometer made by Johnson & Johnson
Be very sure you get this
brand.. When you get home, lock your doors, draw the curtains and disconnect the phone so you will not be disturbed.
Change into very comfortable clothing and sit in your favorite chair. Open the package and remove the thermometer. Now, carefully place it on a table or a surface so that it will not become chipped or broken.
Now the fun part begins.
Take out the literature
from the box and read it carefully. You will notice that in
small print there is a
statement:
'Every Rectal Thermometer made by
Johnson &Johnson is personally tested and then sanitized. '
Now, close your eyes and
repeat out loud five times, ’ I am so glad I do not work in the thermometer quality control department at Johnson & Johnson.'
HAVE A NICE DAY; AND
REMEMBER, THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEONE ELSE WITH A JOB THAT IS MORE OF A PAIN IN THE ASS THAN YOURS!
.........Remember,
if you haven't got a smile on your face and laughter in your heart...Then you are just an old sour fart; Maybe you should go
and work for Johnson & Johnson!!!!!

9/16/09 - Wanderer's Bell - Last Chance
Thursday, September 17th, is the last day the masked stranger will be in Tryndmoor -- and the last day that his unique and powerful gift (The Wanderer's Bell) will be available.
Don't miss out on your chance to acquire this magnificent item!
I wonder why? Even though he re-opened the the other "events" I would think he would leave this announcement as a reference.

Don't you love it when... despite being technically ignorant you manage to hack your DVD player so it's no longer region-specific and will therefore (hopefully) still work when you take it to Russia.
I am now in a very good mood... :D
(Almost put this in the 'don't you love it when' thread but thought better of it).

Да.
Although, If you have DVDs in a certain region, they should work in a DVD player for that region, wherever you are.

I have an equally, give or take ;), technical ignorance of such things. Probably a redundant question but have you tried any of your current stock of DVDs? I would think if they work then any should.
Also hopefully you'll have reliable internet access there.

I'm still in the UK at the moment, where our DVD collection is region 2, as was the DVD player.
The DVDs that we'll be able to get locally in Moscow will be region 5, so we'll need a DVD player that can play both those and the ones we bring with us.
We'll also need to make sure we get a multi-system TV that can cope with PAL, SECAM and NTSC formats, but I'm assured that any new TV you get outside the US will be able to do that.
And yes, hopefully I'll have a good broadband connection. The landlady's supposed to be sorting that out for us.
