Hi anyone who remember me. And hi the rest of you. :)
I don't really think anyone will remember me, but I'll give it a shot. I was playing Sryth a lot about two years ago, and I even won a raffle for some really nice gear (but I strongly suspect the Avenger stuff is outdated now.) Just figured I'd give a heads up.

I still hate you for winning that raffle.
Welcome back. :p

Hi, I'm Thingirl.
@ Havoc: I'm guessing Magical didn't win a prize ;).

Hi Daffanka. I've only been around for about 15 months, but I suspect there's at least one person around here who'll remember you... ;)
Lots of new content out there for you!
EDIT: looking above, seems I was right about that person...

Haha, I only bought like eight tickets. That was a crazy fluke. Still waiting for my AG to come through so I can play all the new stuff. :)
Hi thingirl. Nice to meet you. x)
e: Hey Doolip.
Is there a wiki around so I can check on all the new stuff? Last thing I remember is Proving Grounds V being over.

Hi and welcome back, Daffanka! I remember you, though I had forgotten about you winning that raffle - due to me completely forgetting about that particular raffle.

Welcome back Daffanka. I saw your sword in the MP Dragon battle and was wondering where you got it from. I have only been around for just under 15 months.

Welcome back Daffanka. It is great to have you back. There is so much going on in the game that you might need a good month to catch up with all the new content. Enjoy.
BTW, I remember you and remember your remarkable raffle win. You owned the equipment trademark for a good while in the game. But more importantly, now we can look forward to your lively forum contributions. But you won't be able to give thingirl a run for her money. She logs 40 posts a day!
Finally, have a rep for your re-emergence!

Yup, the expressions on that comic make some for some pretty good avatars. Nice to meet you.
And hi oldschool, Elrond, Lightwielder and scout, I know oldschool, scout and Elrond and it's nice to meet you, Lightwielder.

Welcome back, Daffanka! I too remember some of your posts in the old forum, including a few about your Avenger gear; I started around the same time as Scout and Oldschool. And your old avatar always made me smile, though I never knew before where it was from.

I remember you too. :) You used to have a Calvin and Hobbes avatar which made me smile because Calvin and Hobbes is possibly the greatest thing created by man.

My mom has "the compleate book of Calvin and Hobbes comics, volume one" on the book shelf. I think they're funny, but not overly so. (Sorry YN.)

Well, I agree with Daffanka: Calvin & Hobbes was one of the greatest comic strips ever. The quality of the artwork is just astonishing, especially in the Sunday strips. Bill Watterson did things nobody had ever done in a daily comic strip before (and which the vast majority of comic strips still aren't doing.)
I think C&H appeals more to adults than to actual kids, though. Try it again in 10 years, Thingirl, and see if your opinion changes any. I know my tastes in humor changed drastically while I was growing up. When I was a kid and the '60s Batman show was on the air, I loved it because it was so exciting and I took it completely seriously. Then as a mid-teenager in the mid-'70s I watched it again, and hated it. I couldn't believe how dorky it was. Then in college in my early 20s, I watched it again and loved how intentionally dorky (i.e., campy) it was. :D
And yes, Miryenne did have a Calvin avatar -- showing him as Spaceman Spiff, IIRC. (In fact, I think I stole -- um, borrowed -- that avatar for the KoL forums.)

Yeah, I used to read it when I was like 14 (this must've been about a year or so after it got syndicated) just for the laughs and wacky antics, but even when I got older and stopped watching cartoons I still read C&H because there's so much more to it.
As Ned mentioned, there's the absolutely gorgeous artwork, especially on some of his specials, but there's also a kind of subtlety to the humor. In one of my favorite strips, Calvin rants about the world's over commercialized state, then goes into one of his fantasies where his world is covered in the same kind of commercial products. Or when he, for three panels, rants about people who complain too much. Hobbes responds by telling him that maybe they're not very self-aware, to which Calvin says "Boy, that's another thing that gets on my nerves."
Watterson is also really, really good at telling a joke without words. There's nothing worse to me than comics who rely overly on words as opposed to their art, and C&H is basically the opposite.
So yeah, C&H rules. I got the full collection just a month ago. :)

OK, I got the rant thing :).

I love the strips where Calvin builds snowmen. That kid has some serious artistic talent when it comes to snow sculptures, even if they are a bit warped... :)
(I'd like to see Bill Watterson's snow sculptures some time, too!)

Yeah, like where he put's a snowman hit by his parents' car and three other snowmen are staring at it in wide-jawed horror...how the hell do you give snowmen round mouths?

Yes, several of Calvin's snow sculptures didn't look possible to execute in real life. Still marvelously warped, though.
