I just restarted exploring the game and found that unarmed combat is quite the formidable art. Is there a way to have, perhaps, magical gauntlets that let one strike unarmed with magical benefits (against magic weapon damage only creatures)? I am quite new to the game so am not sure if this may eventually be an option but would like to know if I may look forward to it.

It's called the Wxyryn rings. They are sold by Tallys for 16, 28, and 36 ATs respectively.

They will allow me to strike unarmed with magic?....nice.

Wait, actually, I reread your question. No, unarmed is simply a regular attack. They actually only give you the ability to hit immune monsters which cannot be hit by not magical weapons and unarmed combat.

So one must be proficient in a weapon style (with magic) to hit said creatures?

I suppose it would be too easy to become an "uber" character with the ability to have a magical weapon with their hands considering all it takes is a bit of training to get this skill into a very comfortable zone.

Let me explain:

Against certain enemies, using just your fists or a regular weapon (not magical), your "weapon is ineffective against this enemy." But with a magical weapon, you can hit them. Unarmed players obviously cannot use magical weapons, so instead they have a special ring which allows them to hit those enemies.

A magical weapon is any weapon with a (magical) label after its name.

And the Wxyryn's rings main drawback is their awful stats and the fact you need to spend ATs to get them.

The only ring that might convince me to resort back to unarmed is the Ring of Mayhem (which I don't have since I didn't enter that raffle). It has a special attack; but I don't know if it is as frequent as magic attacks by weapons.

Otherwise, unarmed is nice at first because it reduces the difficulty of opponents compared to wielding a sword. But at a certain level the specials of magic weapons take precedence; and unarmed becomes useless as an attack option.

My experience with the ring of Mayhem has been that it's specials are coming up at about the same frequency as the specials from my Shimmering Silver Mace.

I had a round recently when the Mace hit 'thrice' in the same round where the ring gave me bonus damage. It was nice.
