Hi everybody. I'm more or less back for a few days of my vacations (or the little time I'll be able to enjoy from them while doing all my delayed home tasks ;)).
Seeing the recent changes in the gold mechanics, I think it's a good moment to compile all of the changes that have been in gold mechanics through the game's history.
Shadowblack started with:
When I started playing the most a non-AG player could get when selling items was 100 gold from the Talinus market. So it took quite a while to get the gold for the Plate Armor from the Talinus market (which was the best armor non-AG players could get back then). Blessings cost just 250 gold at the time (the price later increased to 350 and then to the current 500).
What's more, the only grinding spots for non-AG players were "Have a Random Encounter" in Trithik and walking around the Murk in the hopes of getting an encounter. So getting gold was pretty hard for a non-AG player.
Thingirl gave me the idea to take this matter to the public, so, what do you remember? What has changed in Sryth (specially about gold, but I won't mind if things get a little off-topic) during your time as a player?
I, personally, having been here only from May 2008, remember when Graldok was the best place for selling almost everything, when the only replayables were Axepath, Yir-tanon and the Jadefang Lair (if I remember right, and a look to Game Updates seems to confirm this, the Old North Wood opened more or less when I was starting out), and gold was really hard to come by by non-AG players, 100 gold being the max for any item.

Here are some posts I've seen recently that had interesting tidbits about the history of gold in this game.
From the "No More Gold 4 training !!!" thread:
This post (http://www.srythforum.com/showthread.php?p=7489#post7489).
From the "Character Gold Cap" thread:
This post (http://www.srythforum.com/showthread.php?p=6493#post6493), and
this post (http://www.srythforum.com/showthread.php?p=6749#post6749).
Both those threads probably have more historical information; that's just what I caught in a quick skim through them.

Thank you, Young Ned. That's what happens when you read a lot of threads in very little time to get updated from a long absence, you miss things like that. I'll repp you once I'm able.
As for the rest, I really want to hear more stories of pickpockets and highwaymen, and of times when 50 gold for a quest was an astounding reward.

I believe I mentioned this somewhere on the old forum, but in the past - before the new travel system - there was an woodland area near Hawklor that we could explore. The area disappeared after the new travel system went live and later Bentlimb Wood was introduced in its place. In that area there was one particular encounter:
You move through the woodlands, your senses alive with the sights, sounds, and smells of the forest that surrounds you.
You hear what sounds like the patter of small feet from behind. When you spin around to have a look you can see nothing there.
You suddenly notice that your purse feels lighter! It appears that you have been the victim of a fleet-footed forest thief!
You quickly scour the immediate area for any sign of who or what may have taken your gold, but your search yields nothing. You vow to keep a closer eye on your belongings as you continue through the forest.
Since I didn't have Thievery at the time I don't know if it made any difference. In any case whenever you got robbed you lost over 60% of your gold. This way a lost a few thousand gold (which at the time was A LOT!) before remembering that I could store gold in Durnsig.
Slight offtopic, but should I add the info about that area (at least the parts I have, since there's no way to tell if I have all encounters) to the wiki? Since we already have a page about things no longer in the game...

Of course, Shadowblack.
Information on the wiki is publicly accessible and way safer than in our private text vaults, no matter how safe they are. And yours are very, very valuable, so I want as much as possible in the wiki, NOW!:D

I added a few more things to the wiki and will add the rest later. Unfortunately back then I wasn't as systematic about things as I am now, so some of the info is missing. Hopefully there are other old-time players who can help with adding the missing bits...
Should we rename "Old Quests" to something more appropriate? Since not all the info is for quests...

I say we keep it "old quests" for the moment and split it if grows too large. Unless you have a good suggestion for a name, since I can't think of a good one right now.
The woodland near hawklor was the one you could meet Hawnley-Jakk for the Hammertongue flask, wasn't it?

offtopic:
No idea. I have never met Hawnley-Jack, so someone else will have to add that encounter.
And no, currently I have no suggestions for a good name. I'll let you know if I think of something.

A page "Things no longer in the Game" and have sub sections "Quests", "Quests (Travel releated)", and "Events". IDK if this helps.

Actually not. You could enter the wood by heading east for Moonshore crossing. To look for Hawnley-Jakk you shoud go west and head up a trail into the wooden slopes of the felrundin mountain.
About gold, I remember just loosing about 100 gold in the woods near Hawklor felt really bad. Getting +1 armour (leather greaves i believe) was the best you could find back then. It all changed when the crypt in some randoom encounter was introduced. From that point gold was no limit anymore.

Hardly necro-threading, as both those threads have had posts within the last few days. But thanks, and back at you!
