There is a new Facebook link on the bottom of the character main page, and on the games home page. I don't know what Facebook is or does so if anyone does please tell?

It appears to be a way to post announcements about Sryth or your character on your Facebook page.

Facebook's a big social networking site.

Like OMG, smv, ydk what Facebook is?

OK, Facebook is a social networking site, on which I do not have an account, similar to Myspace, which I also don't have an account on, but safer. More specific than that, I can't really say.

EDIT: Darn, ninja'd.

EDIT 2: That's going to be really annoying. Espically if mom is looking over my shoulder and freaks out because she sees the Facebook link and goes all freakazoid mom overeacting to something that isn't even an issue.

I too have only heard about Fa$ebook, but never bothered to learn more about it...

I used the link to post a status update about Sryth on my Facebook page. I'd love to help the GM drum up interest in the game.

Well, I might MIGHT MIGHT see someone younger than me on the forum sometime soon. And a big influx of noobs asking "like dudes how do i do caves"

Absolutely you might, but probably not from my Facebook page. I don't have that many friends, and they're all old like me.

And if they didn't know how to do caves, I suspect they'd ask me. :)

I seriously doubt Facebook is going to attract younger players. I don't know of many "kids" on there; it's aimed at college age and older.

where I live, eighth graders already have Facebook accounts. I had one for around 2 hours, and decided it was not for me.

Yeah, RP isn't really doable over Facebook. I know 7th and even 6th graders with Facebook.

I kinda remember Badstench said something about having an account. I think.
Maybe he will chime in and tell us about it.......

I'm a noob on the whole thing myself. In the meantime while we wait for Badstench or someone else to get down to the "nitty gritty"....

My 'nitty gritty' reference got me thinking so this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KJzwVu4Z90) is for any Nitty Gritty Dirt Band / Winnie the Pooh fans. :)

I didn't get into Facebook until I attended my 30-year high school reunion a month or so ago and found out that practically everyone I spoke to had a Facebook account. So it seems to have great appeal to people my age, for what that's worth. I've been having a lot of fun there catching up with people I haven't seen in decades.

Might be fun to start a Sryth group in Facebook where we Srythians could congregate. I'm already in a group there for another game I play.

Yes, I have a facebook account and use it to keep in touch with far-flung friends and family members. As a social networking site, it has become an invaluable tool.

However, this is my sole reason for using facebook and I don't wish anything more from it.

I know that if I did use it for more than already stated, it could turn into a monster that gobbled up time and spat out wasted hours... Sryth is already on the verge of doing that.

I've been using Facebook for a couple of years now, to keep in touch with all those other 30-somethings I haven't seen much of since university, plus a few people I used to work with. I also use it to play Scrabble (anyone out there looking for new opponents, let me know!).

There already is a Facebook Sryth group, which as of now seems to have me and 14 other members. Taleria's there, but no-one else is recognisable by their RL name. I can't get the group page to come up though: I can only see the list of members. Not sure why this would be. Possibly something to do with the account of whoever set it up.

To judge by other Facebook groups I'm a member of, they often serve little purpose beyond informing your friends that this is something you like (if they can be bothered to look at your profile page or if they happen to notice when the announcement that you've joined the group comes up on their daily updates). They can be used for discussion, but since we have the forum anyway there's not a lot of point in that. I suppose the Sryth group could be a way for forum members who want to connect in RL and find out more about the person behind the avatar...

I've used the link as I agree that all publicity helps. I notice that there are more links within the game about donating now, so possibly the GM's feeling a bit strapped for cash.

PS Anyone else wanting to use the link should make sure they change the thumbnail that goes with it, as the default seems to be the advert for the Chronicles of Arborell. I've emailed the GM about that.

I joined Facebook as a way of keeping up to date and in contact with old Army mates and the like and it is brilliant for it. I joined the Sryth page on there too but I can't see that anything happens on there, like Dooli says there are only a few members and this forum handles any questions or gossip we may have a lot easier :-)

Can you actually see the Sryth page? It won't work for me. When I do the search I can click on the list of members, but if I try and go to the actual group page it just jumps me to advanced search.

EDIT: I've just noticed that Taleria is the admin for the group - sorry Taleria for not mentioning this before.

I'll go and check

EDIT: There is a link at the top of the page to www.sryth.com and that works fine for me. Is that what you mean? Otherwise if you are a member of the group and you want to see the group page go to your profile click on info and you will find it in groups you are a member of. hope that helps :-)

It was the group page I couldn't see from the search. Using my profile link works fine - thanks and repped!

EDIT: Just had a look at the group page. There was only one item on the discussion board, which was someone back in March wanting to know where to get good equipment. I've added a new discussion topic called 'Where to get Sryth help' and posted links to the wiki and the forum.

I've got My Space, but only used it so I could link pictures and my avatar to the old forum.

Since it isn't necessary on this forum, I don't even go to My Space anymore....

Are you familiar with myspace, smv1973? It's a social networking site that's somewhat similar. I can't describe it very well, but it's basically an account that focuses on each person's or group's own pages. I have a facebook account ever since it began on college networks, but I haven't bothered signing into it for ages.

WELCOME BACK WETHERIL

Had to check your profile/character to make sure it was you. Good to hear from you.

Repped (this forum's exalt) as a "welcome back". :)

And since I haven't spied you on the game either I'm guessing you've got some catching up to do.

Wow, thank you for the welcome back Oldschool! I'm really touched you remembered me. :) It really has been a while. I didn't think I would fall off the face of Sryth for so long. I probably would have stuck around if it weren't for an injury that took a while to recover from. I'll be kind of on/off and not as active as before, since I now have job. Also made a generous donation to the hard-working GM when I got back. I'm impressed with all the new material!

And since I haven't spied you on the game either I'm guessing you've got some catching up to do.

Indeed, I do have a lot of catching up to do. :o I only just signed back into Sryth last night, and have noticed a lot of exciting new developments. I'm trying my best to avoid spoilers, but I'll do my best to catch up. I like the nice new forum--interface seems more professional compared to the old one.

I'm new to the rep'ing system, but I'll rep you back Oldschool. It's great to see you again. :)

In regards to catching up if you haven't done so you may want to head to Blade Square as Tallys is passing out a special copper token for a limited time again before offering an item up for sale. The token should give a discount on the item price.

It was removed (the copper token) but just recently put back in and I'm guessing it'll run until the item is made available. However the GM's mention was of a few days and that was a few days ago. Again I"m guessing it'll be available till the item goes "live", plus we know what the GM's "few days" can mean.

Sorry for the vagueness but trying to avoid spoiler info for you.

One improvement this repp'ing system has over the old karma is that you can go to your user CP (link at upper left under the Sryth logo) and view the last five reps you've received.

Thank you for the hints and tips, Oldschool and Jodelle. :) I have gone to Bladesquare, and indeed, Tallys handed me a gold token. Also saw a mysterious masked stranger in Tryndmoor.

I do like the new rep system more than the old karma one. It's nice to see who contributed to your rep. Thanks a lot both of you! :)

yeah, welcome back, wetheril.

Although I'm not very active on the forum, the wiki was waiting for you too... have a repp as further reward for the end of your Sryth-pause (I take those too from time to time)

I haven't really read much on the old forum, so I don't "know" you very well. But, welcome (back?) to the forum, Wetheril. If you have any questions, just ask. And I think we have someone else who has come back after a long hiatus. If you can't get your avatar to work over here, then if you have a photo editing program on your comp., then put your avatar in there and re size it so it will fit. If you don't have a photo editing program, GIMP is free.

I had a Facebook for some months but truth to tell I found it far more confusing than Myspace and so I didn't log in much. Finally I just got bored and deleted it. My Myspace I still have.
