Wow. It's October. What happened to September?

To start off the randomness, I will post a testament to my unrealistically bad spelling skills. I'm in probably about second or 3rd grade spelling. It was spelling time.

Mom: "Spell sky."
Me: "S-k-y."
Mom: "Does the 'y' act as a consonant, or a vowel?"
Me: "Consonant."
Mom: "In the word 'sky'?"
Me: "It's a consonant." Then I noticed what I was insisting on, and we both broke out in laughter.

I've watched a few episodes, it's pretty good. But what I always think about when I watch an episode is what happens to Ahsoka at the end of the series.

Don't get your hopes up. I'm of the opinion it will probably be edited by people who usually animate shows for 8 year olds and dubbed over by terrible voice actors.

Viz is making the dub. But, yeah, it'll have the C*** edited out of it. (Or maybe dog c*** edited in.) I did not say I would enjoy it, I said that I could watch it.

Yeah, but it's only season 2, so it's too early to make any predictions.

To most parents, their children are just that. After all, they are a couple of decades older than them; and they still remember their children in diapers :p And in many instances, they have an experience reservoir that gives them a different outlook on things.

Sorry TG apparently you and I were composing posts at the same time as I didn't see yours.

From the "Repping Room" thread......

Close but no cigars but reps to all the participants nonetheless.

TSR stood for Tactical Studies Rules.............

..............and their first published game was Cavaliers and Roundheads - based upon Chainmail Rules which was created by Gary Gygax and others in a wargaming club (Lake Geneva Tactical Studies Association (had to google that one myself)). Chainmail of course was published prior to this (yes a trick question) and a bit before my gaming time although I remember it either being a supplement or used when playing the original D&D (white box). :p Incidentally, Cavaliers and Roundheads was based upon the English Civil War.

Expedition to Barrier Peaks (a module set on a crashed starship) was one of the S series modules along with White Plume Mountain, The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth and Tomb of Horrors a definite superfecta of modules. Sometime later they were compiled like the Giant series and others into one module.

I should throw this in for my contemporaries on the fourm. While I'm a bit young to have started off with the original white box series I was introduced to D&D via older brothers of friends who were using the white box set of three books which is what they probably got their start with.

Joddelle
10-05-2009, 11:53 PM
LOL Oldschool - your repping thread post is wrong though about TSR. According to an old Dragon article, while it was intended by Arneson/Gygax to stand for Tactical Studies Rules, TSR in fact stood for nothing. When the company actually incorporated, the corporate name was TSR.

TSR is now Wizards of the Coast.

They had a real nice web site until, in my opinion, 4th edition came out, both Dragon and also Dungeon Magazines went on-line only and they revamped their site.

And to top it all off, I can't even find my old post's in their forum.

Oh well, I like this one a lot better.......:D

Jodelle's correct - TSR as used in TSR games did not stand for anything (we undoubtedly read the same D&D quiz in Dragon magazine many years ago).

I was always a first edition player - can't believe they're up to 4th now. My 7-year-old nephew is really into swords & sorcery and very advanced for his age (definitely 10+ mentally). So, I dug old D&D stuff out of storage and taught him how to play - it's now his favorite game. It's amazing what the imagination can do.

A girl and a guy were
speeding over 100 mph
on a motorcycle.

Girl :Slow down, I'm
scared.

Guy :No, this is fun.

Girl :No it's not, please,
it's so scary.

Guy: Then tell me you
love me.

Girl: I love you, slow down.

Guy: Now give me a big hug

*She gave him a big hug*

Guy: Can you take my helmet
off & put it on yourself,
It's really bothering me.

The next day in the newspaper,
a motorcycle crashed into a
building due to brake failure.

Two people were in the crash,
but only one survived.

The truth was that halfway
down the road the guy realized
that the brakes weren't working,
but he didn't want the girl
to know.

Instead, he had her hug him
and tell him she loves him
one last time.

Then he had her put his
helmet on so that she would
live, even if it meant that
he would die.

Something I picked up from someone's profile in another game I play...

Another E-Mail from a co-worker to pass along......

You could have heard a pin drop.

JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early
60's when DeGaulle decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaulle said he
wanted all US military out of France as soon as possible.

Rusk responded
"Does that include those who are buried here?"

DeGaulle did not respond.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When in England , at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was
asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush.
He answered by saying,
'Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine
young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return.'
You could have heard a pin drop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There was a conference in France where a number of international
engineers were taking part, including French and American.

During a break, one of the French engineers came back into the room
saying 'Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intended to do, bomb them?'

A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly:

'Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat
several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply
emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three
cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a
day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from
sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck.
We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?'

You could have heard a pin drop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that
included Admirals from the U.S. , English, Canadian, Australian and
French Navies.
At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with
a large group of Officers that included personnel from most of those
countries. Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their
drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, 'Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?'
Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied,
'Maybe it's because the Brit's, Canadians, Aussie's and
Americans arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German.'
You could have heard a pin drop.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

AND THIS STORY FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE ABOVE...

Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by
plane.

At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport
in his carry on.

"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer
asked sarcastically.

Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously.
"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready."

The American said,

'The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."

"Impossible. Americans always have to show your passports on
arrival in France !"

The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he
quietly explained,

''Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 to
help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchmen to
show a passport to."

You could have heard a pin drop.

They took their families with them, and then everybody kept spreading out, and eventually you had 3 main human population areas: Europe (Mostly south-eastern, like Greece and Italy), Northern/North-eastern Africa/ Mideast, and China. Some time before Joseph's time (AKA, the end or beginning [I forget which] of the Ice Age), people spread to America.

Japanese doesn't have grammatical number (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammatical_number), according to Wikipedia, so the singular and plural are the same for all Japanese nouns... when you're speaking Japanese. In English, either the Japanese plurals (kunoichi, ninja, tsunami) or the English regular plurals (kunoichis, ninjas, tsunamis) may be used.

What is "GO!"? It's my church's (note, that is possessive, not plural ;)) Jr. High retreat. We'll be doing some fun things tonight, then spend the night at church (boys downstairs, girls upstairs). Tomorrow we'll get up, have breakfast, then go out and do some service protects all around the Memphis/Bartlet area, then each class with spend the night at one of their youth leader's house. Sunday, we'll go to church, have lunch, then help set up for "Fallapaloozia", the alternate Halloween thing. Then we'll get to have fun at Fallapaloozia. I was like, the 3rd person to sign up.

Currently, China (People's Republic of) accounts for nearly $US 1 Trillion (1000 billion) in USA debt! I wonder when the US will pay off the debt!

There's an old saying:

If you owe the bank a little money, the bank owns you.

If you owe the bank a lot of money, you own the bank.

So in a way, although China owns a large chunk of the US, so does the US own a large chunk of China. It's a symbiotic relationship (although not necessarily a healthy one).

I have several clients in both mainland China (including Hong Kong) and Taiwan. We do need each other.

Random question: What's your opinion on service projects? Do you do them? Do you not? Why?

What are service projects?

I'm pretty sure she means community service / volunteerism.

Myself, I do some discounted and pro bono legal work for those who otherwise can't afford an attorney. I also serve on several volunteer boards of local community organizations which work with student education and the United Nations. I think people should give something back to the community at large.

Thingirl gets repped for volunteerism and I don't?

I sense anti-lawyer bias. I should sue (ha ha).

Anyway, props to Thingirl and any others who volunteer to help others, whether via donations of money, time, property, or anything else.

Thanks for the rep, belated or otherwise.

Still, I will pursue volunteerism regardless of reps.

Just to give you one example, I was recently contacted by a lady who was at her wits end. She had refinanced her mortgage about a year earlier with the same mortgage company, and all of a sudden they insisted she owed the original amount, threatened foreclosure and refused to respond to her letters or phone calls. I sent one telefax invoking the appropriate statute and within an hour got a call from the mortgage company apologizing profusely for the screwup and corrected everything within two hours thereafter. I have to say that it was a good feeling to help someone who really needed it.

This is one of my favorite Sryth quotes. Found it just now during the "The Winds of Mount Stonejaw" Adventure.

Still unnerved by the scattered and rapidly-fading fragments of the dream, you sit up in the dark and rest your head in your hands as you take comfort in the familiar quiet of Silversword Tower.

Vowing to never again mix palo and root wine before retiring, you're about to make an attempt at returning to sleep when the silence that surrounds you is shattered by the sound of something clattering along the passage outside.

Good onya and kudos texlaw. What's really bad is the thought of how many folks don't think to pursue their rights and fall prey to such tactics.

Through Google ads. I've seen them in KoL wiki before, but I'm not sure if that's where I first saw them.

(In other words, I don't know who got the $0.02 or whatever from me clicking through their adbox to Sryth. :P )

A-ha.......

Finally, while listening to this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVEhDrJzM8E) it FINALLY came to me.

Badstench's avatar is album art for T. Rex's Electric Warrior. Well actually it didn't "come" to me as much as it appeared in the opening then throughout the remainder of the vid.

Either way, I'll "take it" as every so often I'd see that image and think where have I seen that before? Coulda asked I suppose...... :rolleyes:

By the way, nice choice Badstench.

The U.S. changed when we do the time change like 2 or 3 years ago. I get messed up because I have a clock that does the time change automatically and it still does it on the old date. One of these years I will have to buy a new clock.

My VCR is like that. It changes early so we just ignore it till the time actually does change.

RE: the time change. A couple years ago they extended daylight savings here in the US as part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. It adds about a month overall, going about 3 weeks early in the spring and lasting about a week longer in the fall.

Regardless of the reason I like the extension in the fall because from a safety standpoint it "adds" an extra hour of daylight during Halloween. Before this change the time change usually (maybe always) occured before Halloween.

For the new US Daylight Savings,
