View Full Version : Devastating Attacks

When fighting recently in the multiplayer scenarios, it seems that Devastating attacks happen more often (usually on a roll of 18, 19, or 20)
I see this very rarely in single player scenarios.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has noticed this?
Also, its not strictly triple damage, though. With Devastating Attacks Simeon has landed 11 damage frequently, and since 11 is a prime number, I'm confused about the multiplier for it...

Maybe there's a correlation between the number you roll and the set? Like, 18 will give you a prime number (11, 13, 17, 19, 23) and 19 or 20 will give you a different number?

On an Aggressive attack against a 3+ enemy:
20 results in 83 damage
19 results in 53 or 79
18 results in 50 or 75
It's been like that for quite a while, so it's definitely not something recent or new.
Since I rarely use Normal or Defensive attacks in the MPs I don't know the damage for them. And it has never been triple damage, by the way.

I don't think I've ever seen a devastating attack outside the MPs. Are we talking about the same thing?

Good question, because Devastating attacks are MP-only.
Maybe Hastifer is confusing Devastating attacks and the damage-inflicting powers of items?

The "devastating" attacks referenced by Hastifier only occur in the MP's.
If you use any type of power attack during the battle, those 'devastating' attacks will not happen.
This is a ploy by the GM to show how powers can be beneficial to the attacking player character.
note: if you use a power, the 'devastating' attacks will become available after 5 battle rounds, unless you use a power again in the meantime.

Got it. Well I suppose I could be bleary eyed enough to confuse a single player battle with a multi player battle.
I'll take your word on it and not go through the pain of researching it, too, since you guys have been around a bit.
It really seems very prolific in the MPs, too.
11 is the Devastating Attack damage for Defensive when rolling 20
9 for 19
8 for 18
(in Simeon's current efforts, I root for 18-19, but not 20)
I don't need no stinking 20s!
eh...

I don't know why I thought 83 was triple of 39. Maybe I really AM losing it... and not just vicariously.

I noticed that too. Then I stopped paying attention. Again. I hate Xarakk's specials.
EDIT: I was beginning to think that too... Maybe I really AM losing it... and not just vicariously.

Bump/note: Consider the above bonus damage only affected during the mp's. And if you use a power IN combat during an mp that bonus ability will be negated for 40 mp rounds.
