View Full Version : Ultimate multiplayer fights

What I'm suggesting is that instead of just multiplayer battles where you go fight a monster by yourself with other people attacking the same thing but it doesn't really affect the overall battle.
So how about something like a merchant is going on a voyage to some island far away and needs adventurers to protect him but not only can you choose to defend the merchant you can join the pirates who are looking to attack the merchant. rank can even come into play where if the #1 ranked person is on the merchant side he can choose to either fight random battles of pirates or the closest ranking person on the opposing team.
I know this is different and doesn't sound quite like the best thing but give it a thought and then post it.

Interesting idea, but I'm not at all in favor of PvP play. Repped for a thought-provoking idea, and for being a Marine!

Hi SemperFidelis, and welcome to the forums!
There has been pvp in the past with the Festival of Blades (http://sryth.wikia.com/wiki/Festival_of_Blades) (way before my time), so it is likely there may be pvp battles again--most likely in the context of Zumryn's Battlegrounds. Like Joddelle, I'm not very keen on pvp. Not because I don't enjoy pvp, but because it tends to open a whole can of worms in terms of balance, bugs, and of course drama. (Look at how much fuss has been raised over our current MPs already!)
Nevertheless, I agree that it is an interesting idea. :)

I quite like the idea however im not sure about PvP element, could be an interesting quest choice tho, with fate decisions which would link nicely to the tome of attainment..
PvP would only be fair if you only fought people of similar MR, I have 173 MR, it wouldnt be a fair fight to Get eaten alive by someone with a 240 MR, I would hit him on an 18 he would hit me on a 3.. Then nor would it be fair for me to wipe out someone with 100 less MR than me. I guess you would have to ban items, im not sure theres anyone that could survive a blast of the WoD..

You are certainly right on the ban items rule, or at least certain items. No player has more than 250 SP or so (I don't believe anyone but Thordon has achieved that) but a single hit from finger of dread could KO or at least cripple him.

Powers probably ought to be out too. Judge Furry could crush pretty much anyone with only powers (I think he has 71 NVR).

I dunno, I'd be more for some sort of competitive PvE. If we take the scenario outlined in the OP with the pirates, you'd have adventurers on either side trying to be the first to complete an objective, leading to a new scenario with a new objective until a conclusion is reached. Adventurer would be automatically put in the team with the least players (or some sort of more players=harder objective balancing could be present)
Presented for you in an incredibly ugly MsPaint flowchart;

I think it would be really hard to implement PvP, first you need your oponent to be ready at same time you are, and not to decide it time to grab a smoke and a coffee before clicking the begin combat button.
Plus theres a major advantage to whoever goes first, you boith have 10 sp left whoever goes first is going to win because you will be dead before you can retaliate..
I guess you would have to roll for who goes first, then to make it fair it should be scaled so everyone in PvP is say 9+ to hit, there would have to be a timeout too if you dont begin combat within say 2 mins you forefit match.
PvP could be fun if it was scaled like certain scenarios to make them equally challenging to everyone, of course there would defo be emphasis less on MR and more on SP.

Remember that the Festival of Blades was not actually pure PVP, as the GM organized and wrote all the fights.

That happened before my time, so i have no idea how it worked..
I like the idea of the quest tho, maybe a nice item from Pirate captain and nice item from ships captain.
I want the pirates Parrot..
