I went to read a thread and clicked View First Unread and it took me to the last post which bypassed at least 15 post's that I had not read yet (I wasn't home).
I thought that it happened last night as well but wasn't sure. I was in a hurry so I didn't back up and see if I had read them or not.
Has anyone else noticed this?

When you say you weren't home, do you mean you were reading the forum from a different computer than you usually do?
I believe the forum keeps track of which posts in a thread you have read via cookies. So if you log in from a different computer, you don't have the cookies available that are saved on your home machine. Without them to consult, the forum has no way to know which ones you've read, so it does the same thing it does when you read the forum without logging in first: clicking on "View First Unread" simply takes you to the last post in the thread.

I wasn't able to read the forum because I was at work and had no access.
Every thread since the first one tonight that I used View First Unread went to the first unread like it's supposed to, but I'm sure it happened last night too.

I'm not sure that it uses cookies because I always go to the correct one when I view the last unread. My browser's set to clean upon exit and I regularly run CCleaner as well. Also while I mainly use one specific computer I have three others that I sometimes us.
Definitely something to keep an eye out for though.

Ok, I had this happen again tonight.
Clicked View First Unread and it skipped 10-15 unread posts and went straight to the last post.
If I recognize that it skipped them, it's not a big deal (post is confusing and I back up to figure it out). But if it's a problem that needs to be looked into.... you get my meaning.
Scarbrow mentioned an image upload problem with the SQL server? Possibly a linked problem. I would say that the list of individual posts that each of us have read or haven't is stored in a SQL table. So if the server is having problems with images, it may be having problems elsewhere.....
Just a thought to check out.

Well it sounds like something an admin and not a mod would have to look into. And to be honest even were I an admin it sounds over my head. I'll keep on the lookout though - thanks for the heads up.

I sent Scarbrow a link to my post as a heads up. Hopefully it's not a big problem and an easy fix.

And you're positive you were logged in at the time?

After a certain amount of time (I'm not sure how long) unread posts are automatically marked as read. That might be the reason.

Don't know if that's the case with Scout or not but thanks Shadowblack I wasn't aware of that.

I think it's a week. Something around 5-7 days, anyway.

I stay logged in all the time.
On occasion, I have been made to log in but that was mostly when Scarbrow was making changes. My guess was that everyone had to log in in those cases.

I check the forum at least 3 times in 24 hours.
Except when I have to shut down for storms, I don't remember the "last visit" saying more than "12 hours ago".
EDIT:
I just went to "How old are you?" clicked "last unread" and it went to Oldschools post from 26 minutes ago and skipped Dooli's from 1 hour ago.
Strange!?!?!?

Well I was going to say that has never happened to me, and it just happened on the Forum Refurbishment 2010 thread.
Your unread items are only kept for 10 days, so if a thread doesn't have new posts on 10 days' time, and you don't check it before, it will be marked as read.
I'm not sure about what could be causing this behaviour on "First Unread", though, and I'm quite sure it's unrelated. I'll add it to my admin to-do list. Thanks for the heads-up, Scout1df

Not a problem.
The last thing we need is a server crash or something......
