Characters created today (9/17) will get a Wolf-Emblazoned Longsword.
Wolf-Emblazoned Longsword
Item # 1592
* Class: Weapon, Slashing
* Encumbrance: 8
* Quality: Exceptional
* Melee Rating: +4
This blade of this magnificent longsword is emblazoned with the silhouette of a bounding wolf.
This is a remarkable weapon that's sure to complement the hand of any aspiring adventurer.
This weapon is of exceptional quality.
I thought this would be a good place to post limited time items from Sign-Up page. Also so they can be added to the wiki at some point.

Good idea as I just started another thread posting the same info before checking new posts. I'll delete it once I finish this one.
Also both my accounts are full or I'd have started a character to get the specifics for that post - repped for the post and the description despite being gazzumped or ninja'd on both counts. ;)

If I can log in with Reha, I'll delete her, as her stats are poor and I was anxious to get her going. Unless the first time I can log her on is tomorrow.

I put this item in the wiki (http://sryth.wikia.com/wiki/Item:1592_Wolf-Emblazoned_Longsword). I just started a character and did not get this sword, so it may be account related and not character related.

Reha still has bad stats. I'm... actually, they're both unarmed fighters, so a sword won't help them.

Repped for the wiki work. Good point about characters getting the sword. Although the notice says characters created today it's on the "Sign Up NOW!" link. Again nice to point that out Joddelle.

Been a while since I started a new character, but don't you usually get a Knight's Warsword that's +4 or something? And with Goblindoom practically ten clicks away, this doesn't seem all that nice. Not trying to take anything away from the topic, just pointing that out.
Wait, actually, is this non-AG? Because that could be cool.
e: The Knight's Warsword is 4+ too.

I think it's for non AG. Well, both, but non AG can get it, where as non AG can't get the Warsword or Goblindoom.

Non-AG normally start with the Knight's Warsword, besides which they can easily get the Blade of the Fox, which is +4 and Magical.

Huh. Can't logg on right now (server's full), but I KNOW that Reha and Layla didn't start with the knight's warsword. Alanne did, but she's AG.

well, I just created a new (non-subscriber) account, created a decent character (31 base MR and 25% or better on all xp), and ran through 7-knights once to get the Blade of the Fox.
Of course this character has the Wolf-Emblazoned Longsword, so it proves nothing about the Warsword, but still, a +4 starting weapon is pretty underwhelming.
This may be one difference between a non-ag character and a non-ag account. Because characters I start on my main account without 'upgrading' always have the warsword

Probably. Most likely. But, IDC, when the server's full, I just have Alanne do some grinding.

When I was last playing, I recalled that new characters started with "Glimmering Warblade" (regardless of free or AG accounts). The new default starter item is now Knight's Warsword?

I just created a test free player on my fourth slot on my account, he started with glimmering warblade. Free players, unless they can still get wolf-emblazoned longsword, get a short sword.

The Glimmering Warblade was available on start up when I started both my non AG characters and had been for a long time. Wasn't too long ago the sign up bonus changed to just gold until the recent Wolf-Emblazoned Longsword.

I think all three of my characters started out with the Knight's Warsword. Perhaps the Glimmering Warblade replaced it as starting equipment bonus?

As of a couple of months ago, a non-AG character on an AG account started with the Knight's Warsword, but a character on a non-AG account started with a common short sword (I think it was a short sword, anyway).

it's definitely glimmering warblade now. But yes, a player on a free account gets a short sword.

Yes, and Layla's fine with UC.

Yes, and Layla's fine with UC.
Just hope she's got one of Wyxryn's rings (sp?) from Tallys' so she can still fight magical creatures. Otherwise you'll need a magical weapon. And it's common knowledge that equipping a character who's skilled in unarmed combat but not in weaponry is detremental to their MR.

I think Layla's a free character. Also, weaponry does not affect unarmed combat bonuses (I think).

Yes, Layla's free. No, I don't think that weaponry affects UC bonuses.
She has the Blade of the Fox for her magic weapon. And I think what Paladin was saying is: Layla is an unarmed fighter. If she doesn't have one of Wyxryn's rings, she'll need a magic weapon. Her weaponry skill will affect her MR when she's wielding a weapon.

I think what Paladin was refering to is that a character higher in Unarmed than Weaponry will suffer an MR "penalty", for lack of a better term, when equipping a weapon to fight a creature "hit only by magic".
In other words, correct - weaponry doesn't have anything to do with Unarmed bonuses/MR. However, when wielding one you fall under the weaponry levels for your character instead of the unarmed.

Would it be this Jade Battle Amulet (http://sryth.wikia.com/wiki/Item:1217_Jade_Battle_Amulet)? Cerise started out with one in November...

I'm guessing so Wetheril as I just double checked and all my AG characters started with that as they all have one in storage. Guess there's a tangible benefit to hoarding all those unique items after all.
It says characters created today but I'm wondering if that's the case (see the earlier posts). Also I wonder if it applies to both AG and non AG characters.
Thanks to whoever merged my previous post with the others in this thread as I'd forgotten there was an earlier thread on the subject.
EDIT: It looks as if Joddelle is spot on on the bonus being account related instead of character related which isn't surprising considering her game savvy. I Just created and ran a non AG character through a start up scenario and did NOT get the Jade Battle Amulet. However this was an already existing account. Also not too long ago I deleted my non AGs and when I created another he started with the Glimmering Warblade which was the sign up bonus when that account was created.

I'm pretty sure it should (still) apply to non-AG characters as well. IIRC, the original Wiki page said rolled characters (not the pre-generated) on an AG account would receive it, including free characters on an AG account. However, when I made Cerise at the end of November, it was on a completely free account (not a free character on an AG account), so I was really surprised to find out that she came with this item.

Ah thanks Wetheril as I musta been adding my edit when your post went up. That just further supports Joddelle's theory since I didn't get it on a new character on an old account.

The Jade Battle Amulet is longer available and it seems the bonus gold amount has changed. From previous testing it appears that the start up items are based on account creation not character creation.
Special Bonus - Characters created today (11/12) will receive a bonus of 1,000 extra gold!

I've been playing one cahracter for so long, I thought it was about time to roll a new person... I called him Sir Hute... and thought about adding the "The Hairy". Get it?
Anyways... I discovered I couldn't start playing again... been there, done that.

Most writers engage in word play to some extent, but certain writers are particularly committed to, or adept at, word play as a major feature of their work . Shakespeare (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shakespeare)'s "quibbles" have made him a noted punster. Similarly, P.G. Wodehouse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/P.G._Wodehouse) was hailed by The Times (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Times) as a "comic genius recognized in his lifetime as a classic and an old master of farce" for his own ingenious wordplay.[citation needed (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)] James Joyce (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Joyce), author of Ulysses (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulysses_%28novel%29) and Finnegans Wake (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnegans_Wake), is another noted word-player. For example, Joyce's phrase "they were yung and easily freudened" clearly implies the more conventional "they were young and easily frightened", however the former also makes an apt pun on the names of two famous psychoanalysts (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychoanalysis), Jung (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Jung) and Freud (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sigmund_Freud).

Thanks Dariel I knew it was wordplay on the famous doctors but I couldn't recall where I picked it up. And truthfully it may or may not have been Joyce as that didn't jog anything loose. Still if it wasn't him it was from something from someone that borrowed it I'm sure.
