Don't seem to recall that this has ever been discussed but what about a damage bonus for certain powers vs certain type creatures.
A damage bonus or a possibility of a damage special as with certain weapons powers based upon the foe type. For example against creatures classified as undead Necro would get a damage bonus or a possibility of a special. Creatures from the Nevernal realm - Gating. Elemental creatures - Elementalism and so on and so forth.

Hmm. I believe that special damage bonuses from powers would make the game easier and boring . Maybe if..........

How so? It makes sense that using you power over the dead to hurt the dead should do more damage that using it against something living. Same for your power over the elements Vs. elementals, or your power of portals/summoning demons Vs. demons.
True it makes the game "easier," but that might also mean it's doable for a weak character. Also, you can choose to not use the power with the bonus. However, I think it would be to buffed if it were assured. Maybe a damage special that increases in frequency and power as your level goes up, similar to the sub-skill MR boosts.
I also think that a powered down version of this might be a good idea to add to weapons with additional MR boosts Vs. X type. It would be calculated by the number of the bonus. For example, the power of the bonus of Trielra's Staff (+15 Vs. Demons) would be about 1/4 times less than that of the Demonscourge (+40). Of course, it might be hard to program like that. If it is, then maybe a fixed value would be best.

It would make the game a little easier, yes, but provided it's random enough (like the Weaponry specials) you can't really depend on it, it shouldn't be a problem.
Also, it would help differentiate Powers. I almost always use Necro to damage, since it's unresistable and powerful. Telekinesis cannot compare, Gating is the same, Destruction is resistable. Shadow Magic is good, but not directly damaging, so cannot compare it, as you cannot compare Restoration and Divination. But different bonuses to different Powers would make for interesting new challenges, for example at Battlegrounds (Bone Horde we have for Necro, we could add a Demons one for Gating, an an Elementals one for Elementalism.
About Thingirl's suggestion, I thing it would be a great idea. And not at all difficult to program, since many items have several powers (Sword of Seven Flames and Black Steel Axe come to mind). This would be an added power to every weapon with an MR bonus against a type of foe. There are (so far) 119 of them (http://sryth.wikia.com/index.php?title=Category:Magical_Weapons&from=Serrated+Ice+Sword) (see sub-categories), although many of them are no longer available, so the number of items to modify would be quite lower.
