View Full Version : Repeatable trading of SS and Iakor weapons

This has been mentioned before but I think it bears mentioning again - especially since my main has maxed out his slashing.

What about the ability to visit Mezaryl repeatably and trade our SS and Iakors weapons back and forth for a gold fee of course. This would be a nice little gold sink. It would also allow a little more role playing freedom not just for weapon specialists but for players wanting the option to switch back and forth between alignments.

However the main reason would be to allow characters to swap weapon types once they max out a weapon sub for a different weapon type to allow them to garner combat xp for a new sub. While one can do it with the current "free" weapons many of their types are vastly inferior to the SS/Iakor weapons.

I don't think this would overly affect game play or the GM's ability to stay employed full time as GM (i.e. his wallet). After all how many players are running around with a Tallys weapon equal to the SS/Iakor weapons? Very few - most that are sporting Tallys weapons are brandishing his high end wares.

Although it's not as big a deal once I maxed Hawk's slashing out as I thought it would be as I've been using what's currently "free" as I've noticed others have. Still it would be a nice option to have.

Now what would really be nice is to go to Mezaryl or back to Bryniver and swap that Hale Blade out for a Hale something or another. Grandiose grinding gadgetry indeed. But that's fodder for another discussion and poll.

I like the idea. Just look at the number of (good) magical spears that are available for free... or axes... or daggers...

Most good non-SS weapons are swords, with a couple of staffs and the Demonscourge as the notable exceptions....

I can see where you're coming from re wanting to grind different weapon skills, but personally I don't mind using 'lesser' free weapons for that purpose, as most of the grinding scenarios are scaled anyway.

I can't really see how you'd work this in story-wise. At the moment it's pretty simple: Runeskin gives you a weapon, you choose which sort, and then Mezaryl knows someone who will tweak its alignment for you. If Mezaryl suddenly gained access to the whole caboodle, then there would have to be some quite involved explantion as to how she had sneaky access to Runeskin's personal hoard.

Good point, Dooli. But she should at least have access to all the Shimmering Silver weapons and allow us to exchange one such weapon for another (SSL for SS Spear, for example).

That makes sense. I'm still not unduly fussed about which weapons I use just to grind weapon skills, though. Maybe I'll feel differently if I ever manage to get both Staves and Bashing to 100.

The way I see Rhia is as a swordswoman (probably cos I've always had a bit of a thing about swords). So for new adventures and encounters she'll always use a sword, and the issue for me is only about grinding.

Good point Dooli, ditto to what Shadowblack said.

Scout likes his sword, but for the sake of weapon sub training, I would love to trade it in for a while. (slash and bash already at 100)

It must be the Valentine's Day wine, but I couldn't help grinning when Dooli said she's always had a bit of a thing about swords (lol).

Thus proving for once and for all that we don't always think alike :D

Dooli, on that point I'm very happy that we do not think alike (lol).

Anyway, after all that joking around, Happy Valentine's Day.

I like the idea, too, although I agree that it wouldn't make game sense for Mezaryl to have access to all the Iakor's weapons. But being able to swap an SSL for some other SS weapon would be pretty cool. I wouldn't object if Mez wanted a small gold fee to perform the swap, either...

What happens if the GM introduces a free weapon that is better than the SSL? This whole issue becomes as important as the "Storm Items" from the Murk, since most people will choose the better sword. And I would prefer a better free sword (Merzekk) than the option to pick and choose from the stable boy's stuff.

Good point from one of the "old-timers", and stand repped for that. However, I can think of a possible story to justify Mezaryl to have access to all or part of the Runeskin "hoard" and is, simply, that she's his fence! After all, how did she knew in advance what weapon had we selected, to prepare the Shimmering Silver version beforehand? Maybe Runeskin wanted his hoard complete again, or maybe he just amuses himself by watching us radically change alignments.

I'd really like to lay my hands again on one of the Iakor's weapons, and permit myself a village plundering (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fcbazH6aE2g) or two... :p

Actually, we could choose ANY of the SS weapons, regardless of which Iakor's weapon we picked. Or so it was back when I made the exchange.

Still that way as either right before or after I started this thread I traded Volatn's Iakor's Deathblade for a SSSpear. I actually done it to see if the Tarn bonus transfered which it didn't. Also I had to transfer the 7Goblins bonus before I could swap it.

Of course I didn't save so he's still toting around the D'blade. And I just thought of this. I wonder what happens to that Iakor's polluted fountain in Tarn when I swap for a SSseries and dip it in there. Worth running later, once done I'll post the results.

Considering the current mechanics I wonder if anyone else has toted around an Iakor's weapon until they max that sub out before switching to a different type SS one?

Update....

I was mistaken it IS possible to swap your Iakor's weapon with an imbuable bonus attached for a SS weapon. If you do the bonus apparently goes with it and doesn't transfer. I was on the imbuable swap screen earlier and not the Iakor/SS swap screen.

But as I mentioned earlier the previous Tarn fountain bonus that was on Iakor's D'blade did not transfer.

When Saintly Voltan (with a RP "ugh" threw in, lol) took his newly acquired non boosted SSSpear to the Tarn fountain that now runs foul from his Demonic dipping of Iakor's D'blade it wouldn't give him the option to dip his SSS.

When and IF my fourth alt ever maxes out his slashing I still don't have any intention of swapping his D'blade for another class weapon for the xp aspect because I'm rp'ing him as evil so unless that changes it's more or less a non issue for me.

Still I'm going to send the GM an email with these concerns and also inquire about my previous Barynbor correspondence (Esoteric's victory not showing).

I'll advise of any replies in bug reports or here with a link.
