While reading Lightwielder's "You know you're a Sryth Gamer When..." thread, I noticed several posts referencing accidental attempts to use powers in real life.

Which got me thinking...

If you could have one power from Sryth in Real Life, which power would you choose?

And you can train it and get better at it.

Either Shadow Magic or Divination. More likely Shadow Magic.

I recently watched the latest Ricky Gervais movie, "The Invention of Lying".

The scene takes place inside a bar with two friends (male) and the bartender (also male) hypothesizing.

"If you could do anything you wanted... any one thing... what would you do?"
"What do you mean? Like 'Anything'?"
"Yeah. Anything at all."
Friend thinks hard for a few seconds, then comes out with, "I'd touch womens boobs!"

What power would that require?

I would also choose Gating, but Conjuration could be interesting.

Legendary Fortification to not get killed by them slapping you.

And to everybody who took Gating...

(from http://sryth.wikia.com/wiki/Questions_for_the_GM_February_2009) Gating is a bit too risky and unpredictable for reliable long-distance travel (except for NPCs who seem to use it when it suits them!). However, Jarix Stones might be able to serve such a purpose, and their use would require proper knowledge of things arcane and possibly the art of gating (at least to ensure safe travel).

As long as you can control it and it's not random (like in the game).

I didn't want it for long distance travel. Work is only a mile away.

Also, I like the idea that if you get into trouble, a Demon Lord has my back.....

Restoration or Fortification for me, hands down. My personality is one where, I'm constantly driven to be helpful and make a difference. I play Paladins(or their equivalent) in Role-Playing Games, because healing and protecting fit right in with that, as well as being strong and able to protect myself.

For any wondering, this explains why John Ardin's Restoration is about 15-20 levels higher than all others.

I'd have to go with Divination. Think of the potential!

Good question. Shadow Magic has a whole LOT of capabilities -- it can do some Divination-type things, Telekinesis-type things, Fortification-type things, and even Restoration-type things, plus things that are uniquely its own, so it's probably the most versatile power. I'd probably go with that.

Ideally, though, you'd get to try them all out before deciding which one you wanted to keep. :D

Yes, the potential is good, but it's inaccurate and vague more often than not.

Yes, but it doesn't seem that you get to switch between them at will, making it the LEAST versatile power at the same time.

Restoration, I guess. Nothing better than being a repairman using the power of your mind. :D

(Initially, I thought Divination, as many of my characters have it and it's useful, but considering the Monkey's Paw side of things made me reconsider.)
