View Full Version : Sryth wiki - new is less effective?

While the new forum looks good, I'm finding the new Sryth wiki to be harder to negotiate than the old. Is that just inexperience, or ...?
Specifically, I find that the non-forum links look too similar to the in-forum links. Much of the time, I get more non-forum links than actual in-forum results.
I've taken to searching both fora - the new because presumably it's the active one, plus the old because I find actual info that way.
Is there a query format that I've overlooked, is it just a matter of becoming accustomed to the new format, or is it just a tradeoff that must be accepted (for some technical/economic hosting reason)?

I'm pretty sure that it's just inexperience, I don't have too many problems with it currently.

I can't tell if you're talkign about the wiki (http://sryth.wikia.com/wiki/Sryth_Wiki), or about the new forum...

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the new wiki, he mentioned that he thinks the new forum is good.

I do mean the wiki. The forum is fine. I'll keep trying with the wiki. It seems less user friendly to me, but it looks like lots of work went into the transfer, and that there was a good reason for the transfer. I'm just finding search less useful than in the old one.

How so? Could you give a few examples?
P.S.: You said "non-forum links" and "in-forum links". That's what confused me.

Probably I used the wrong terminology. What I meant was that the advertising links (top, side, and bottom) look just like the wiki search results, and the distinction between the advertising panels at top and bottom and the wiki results are not immediately obvious (e.g., different background color).
I've spent a few minutes now trying to generate a search that is clearly worse than in the previous wiki, and I haven't managed. So, either I jumped the gun based on my first impressions, or I just haven't found the right search. Strangely, now all the ad panels also seem to have disappeared.
So, maybe I should just withdraw the comment until I can back it up. :o

You'll notice that registering on the wiki gets rid of a large majority of the ads.

Something is currently wrong with the wiki search - it's not working at all.

I reloaded the site, and it seems to work again.
