I've wondered about that myself. Because it seems that some that have fell off the charts still have valid subscriptions - but all I can attribute that to is "forum intuition".

Confirmed beyond doubt.

Maressea logged in, ground a little, saved, waited a little bit and voilà! It's now #273 on HoC, so somebody on the lower ranks has just slipped out. And when I checked before, she wasn't on HoC at all. In fact, I'm pretty sure she never ranked that high. By jolly, look at her (http://www.sryth.com/ci.php?f_c=pcp.inc&f_i=10a4bbcxce17f073c)!

Now I won't probably play with her on the next days, so if any of you is so kind as to check the HoC and see when does she disappears, we can start to guesstimate how much time it takes to remove you from HoC due to inactivity. Or you can check Krylinym (http://www.sryth.com/ci.php?f_c=pcp.inc&f_i=edba0cxce155ef8c&f) instead (just watch for the "Adventurer Profile last updated" date).

I noticed that I had moved up to number six today and checked and Magical is not listed there. Anyone know anything?
Magical must have been gone for a while because Scout has been #17 for at least a week and still is.

I didn't realize (couldn't imagine) that Magical (Havoc) was gone from the rankings.

I don't know about girls ruling. Remember, Scout is #17 while the girls are at #234 and #235.

Also, Scout has XP to train with and they don't. Ulric has some XP to use as well, he just doesn't......

I noticed that I had moved up to number six today and checked and Magical is not listed there. Anyone know anything?

My character Glorfindel was not listed in the The Hall of Champions yesterday so I logged on and did a few quest with him than saved. He is now listed again in the Hall. Before I saved my game with him yesterday the last time I had saved with him was on April 5. I think if you don't save with a character at least once in a 30 day time frame your character will be be dropped from The Hall of Champions. Once the save date is updated your character should be listed again in the Hall once the Hall does it's hourly updates.

Good point SMV - that makes sense. But I've had a few times with any/all my characters where they showed unranked even if played and saved recently. Usually hitting the "Adv. Rank" which shows unranked from the stat screen corrects it. But as Texlaw mentioned in Scout's quoted post occasionally I've had to log completely out and back in to take care of it.

Refining the point, logging in and out is not enough. You have to save your game at some point. I've tested with Rahenra, who had not logged in for the same time as Maressea, and despite logging in and out for a few times he's still Unranked.

EDIT: 2 days and Maressea is still on HoC

I wonder what the reason is for the change? I can understand being removed if your subscription expires, but not for not playing for a few days.

The way it was, you could tell if someone "quit" the game, now all you can do is guess.......

Could it be a tactic to reduce load on the server which (in light of the announcement regarding the new server) might be groaning and moaning under the current load?

Server load could be the issue. But this close to the change, I don't know why he bothered unless the server change was thought of after the fact.

I suppose it might be in line with the "several updates an hour" style. Remember when the HoC only updated once a day? By removing the currently inactive players, the HoC becomes not a list of "the greatest players in all history that are still AG members" but "the greatest currently active players".

Could be interesting to ask the GM for a new HoC list more akin to the classical Hall of Fame, where adventurers of all kinds could stay even if they've quit (provided they are/were AG, so their profiles still exist). It could only be updated once a day like the old one.

It just occurred to me when I read the news about the Return to Saarngard that none of my characters including Hawk have started much less finished Alder Throne yet.

With the completion of the PG and it's rewards it might give 'em a little bump in the rankings - particularly Hawk. How much if any? Hard to tell - maybe just maybe enough to unseat some young upstart no matter how razor thin an increase. :cool: :p ;)

Don't get caught. I would have thought that vBulletin sites would be blocked, though. I mean, if Proboards are, then shouldn't vBulletin?

The old forum was hosted at proboards.com, so blocking that domain would block a whole lot of forums. This one is hosted at srythforum.com, which probably isn't on the school's list (yet) of sites to block.

Incidentally, I just tried to go to the old forum using my usual bookmark, and it doesn't seem to be there! I got redirected to a Yahoo search window.

Note the closeness of the dates, to the minute.

Now, I haven't logged in with her since I last reported about it, more than a week ago, so I'm afraid the "last saved" dates just got restarted with the server change. And that means Havoc's still missing...

Can any of you confirm this? This would mean the "Realm News" are not literally true but rather generated from save data and random encounters and places.

Well, in the Realm News I saw that Magical was heading for the Camp of the painted peddler, so I assume he really is active again. Maybe he'll visit the forum and say something :D

We They start in mid to late August here and end in early June. Snow cancellations extended things somewhat but according to law there is a hard end date regardless. There's talk of starting earlier for that reason or possibly year round school with a few more long breaks threw in like CHRISTmas and Easter.

And to get back on topic all my secondaries enjoyed a nice bump from the PG6 rewards and are sitting in the mid/high 70's and haven't yet reconfiged at Tallys with their additional ATs since they're close to Tarlaro's deadline. I'll crunch the numbers then and decide - Virago's definitely getting something with Battle Rage. Not sure about the guys.

None of 'em are back up to where they once were however. And I've noticed a few players with multiple characters ranked "up there" - kudos to you.

And regarding the new server refiring rankings. I haven't checked yet but there's probably some folks still "missing" that shouldn't be as Hawk only slid one spot. But it merits taking a peek at the HoC.

Which is more or less correct, for all I can say. I then save, wait a minute, and it says:

The only conclusion I can get is that the HoC takes the last date of the following two:

Last saved your character
Last logged in on any other character of the same account

Any ideas? Or have been all characters's saved times reset AGAIN today? have you got any inactive characters to test this?

This is flabbergasting to say the least.

I last played my character Aerin on June 8th. I just logged in and saved and it said "Your game was last saved: June 8th, 2010 @ 11:51 AM EDT"

Her profile says "Adventurer Profile last updated: 6/13/2010 08:29 PM"

I just looked at Rhia's profile, and it said "Adventurer Profile last updated: 6/14/2010 10:53 AM", which looks like the last time I saved Rhia's game today.

I didn't log on to Sryth at all on 6/13/2010 (either my time or server time).

If your character's profile includes hidden information about their ranking, then would it automatically reset whenever the HoC rankings change? EDIT: No, 'cos that would mean there ought to be some correlation between Scarbrow's info, TG's and mine. D'oh!

If you're puzzled any ideas I may have aren't likely to help but here goes nonetheless:

I'll log in on my account and unequip gear on two of the alts. Virago I'll gear down and not save, Voltan I'll gear down and save. Dunno if that''ll help determine anything or not. Then I'll log off wait a bit and log back on and only play Hawk until I can check the time stamps. Dunno what if anything that may or may not determine.

Could it be the ranking mechanic has been changed especially in light of a new server?

And it's possible that if something's been changed this has not still....

Adventurer Rankings
Adventurer rankings are compiled/calculated hourly.
The data used to determine your rank comes directly from your last saved game preceding the ranking procedure.

So, to ensure your rank is as high as it can be, it's much to your benefit to make sure your best items are equipped before you save your game.

It's possible (and very likely) for two or more characters to have the same rank (in any of the ranked categories) as characters who are tied in a category will have the same numeric rank. Well I just logged on with Hawk to pull that quote and then exited without saving but did NOT log off (not that I think logging off matters I just wanted to be clear).

I was checking the alts who all had different update times. I went back through to check them again and they were all updated to the same time as Hawk's which was when I logged on to pull the quote.

Looks like it's related to the last log in time on the account. In light of this the quoted game text is probably correct in that the character's last saved status is used to generate the ranking stats. Just that now that rankings are genrated form the last log in time on that account - regardless if that character has been played or not.

That also helps explain folks disappearing from the rankings possibly. If it's generated off the last log in time there probably is a limit as how far the rankings go back. Therefore if an account hasn't been logged in on in that time frame that account's characters drop off the rankings. That would also allow characters that are not played during that time frame to stay ranked as long as the account is logged onto.

But I'll defer to the experts. So, does any of that make sense?

Edit: In light of the above I'll forego my "nerfing" strategy.

Makes a lot of sense to me. That way, you don't have to play all characters to keep them on the listings, provided they're there, of course. Unfortunately, that rather defeats my plan of checking how long has a character to remain idle to fall off the HoC. Although sometimes my whole account falls in that category, of course... I'll just have to check now and again, and if at some time I manage to get unranked, try to get the number of days...

My latest contribution to the game is grounding Thaoni! I trained my Weap-slash from 95 to 100 for 125 gold pieces. I dropped a line to the GM inquiring if that was intentional. He gave me 32 AT's for reporting the bug; put me back at lvl 95 weap-slash, gave me back my 125 gold pieces.

The useful information is that Thaoni trains up to lvl 50 max now.

Even though TG's Alanne is technically 10+ places above me, I now rank higher than Alanne in the "Overall Power" category (just by one, but hey, I'll take what I can get). It therefore seems obvious that the "overall power" criteria differ from the "ranking" criteria, so who knows Elrond, move up a few places again and see what your power ranking might be ...

Ditto to what Dooli said and I myself have three alts with slashing hovering in the mid 80s.

The following is NOT in response to any of the previous posts but I can see where this might be headed. So with that in mind here's my two cents worth which will hopefully keep any potential steamroller from getting outta hand.

Actually if you think about it we haven't lost much since it seems the intention of the GM was to cap her training at level 50 from the get go. If folks wait till then and use her services they're only saving (if my math's correct) about 960 xp (5 levels @ 192 xp per). So the way I see it that's the only thing I lost which I can accept.

Plus Elrond himself took a hit as he could've taken advantage of the bug as well. And even more so he could have kept mum about reporting it. Especially since he knew he would probably catch some flak over.

And had he announced his intention to query the GM I probably wouldn't have thought anything about it since amongst the forum/wiki circles it was well known and thought to be a legitimate game mechanic.

And this is my personal take - it's one thing to unknowingly take advantage of a bug. Ignorance is bliss as they say. It's another altogether to take advantage of one by running in under the wire and knowingly exploiting it. And it's also just as disingenuous to cry foul when the bug is fixed or to give anyone any flak over it - whether it be the folks reporting it or the GM himself. To me it wouldn't be any different than expecting the GM to "grandfather" us (the current players) in because we didn't know better and it was a big ole misunderstanding.

Plus let's put it in perspective. As I've said before, it's only a game. A damn fine one mind you but it's still just a game.

Again just my two cents.

And again Welcome Back Elrond you certainly know how to make an entrance. And it seems we need some remedial training on how to roll the Welcome Wagon out.

Good job on Thaoni. I never liked that particular exploit and never used it - and since it never was part of the GM's master plan it is a good thing it was fixed. If you find anything else that strikes you as an exploit or bug then by all means you should bring to the GM's attention - no need to discuss or debate with anyone!

All hard feelings, if any, about Thaoni's grounding are warranted. As I said, it translates into 252000 specific xp with a 30% bonus (about 106 Tarn runs of the 544-128 xp reward).

I don't know if the GM will fix the bug retrospectively (going back to players who utilized it and taking them down 5 levels); since that seems complicated to me. Thus, I'll probably be the only one taken down from lvl 100 back to lvl 95. But I knew that risk when I made the report. And sure as heck, the report will never be popular with all players.

In the end, the GM made the call that Thaoni's unlimited training was not intentional; and that it violated how he wants the game to be played. My report; but his call. And I won't mind if he shares some of the flak with me ;)

All in all, it is great to be back talking to all of you. It has been a long absence! All the best to all of you.

I rarely change my gear/weapons so when Scout falls, usually that means I'm falling behind. (he was #16 for a while)

I did the opposite of what DonMoody did - I downgraded my gloves from platinum to ghostfire so as to get a few extra ATs. As a result, I've temporarily dropped out of the 20s, letting DonMoody get ahead of me.

I have enough xp and then some to level to legendary slasher, but I'm in no rush. Enjoy your newfound rank while it lasts - I'm just biding my time (lol).

P.S. FWIW, some recent grinding allowed be to reach that all skills at 90+ and all powers at 85+ mark.
But they had been at 89+ and 84+ so it wasn't a large increase.

UPDATE: And with the latest update, I am now at #20.

Congrats DonMoody! :) At that level for powers increasing them, especially multiple ones, by one level might indeed make a difference. However, some folks may still be wearing the Rhaknar boots and rings. And by a quick glance I'm thinking a few to a handful of the top folks are off the HoC like Wetheril, Dragonbane, SMV and Rangerlord which puts Hawk out of the the top 20 as well. Regardless of duration... Congrats on Top Twenty.

On a separate note kudos and a shout out to dhammet. Since Garet Jax hit Legendary AS&P the rest of the stable have been climbing the rungs of the Hall at a stout pace (currently 47,49,54).

I was ranked at 34 a week ago; but now I'm ranked 29 without doing much, save for leveling a couple of skills and powers. So, it must be players falling out of the rankings or not saving for a few days.

I think Handfast saved wearing all the ice items from level 12, thus temporarily dropping his ranking.

I keep thinking Elrond's Elrohir Singolo is in the top 10 because he's one of the few who show up higher than me on the "overall power" rankings. It appears it was top 10 in terms of equipment, not overall.

So basically, I have no idea, except that TG and I keep going up in lockstep. I did improve to min 86/76 overall, but I don't think that counted for more than one rank move.

Hawk has been hovering around 17 of late and I noticed he's at 24 but I usually have Trielra's Staff equipped it's his best non slashing weapon overall. And without looking I'm guessing that's what it is. Also a spot, maybe two could even be the result of the difference with Fogbough bonuses.

I have also been bouncing around in rankings lately - partly through my own doing and partly not. I assume it is because some people are saving with less than optimal equipment on due to Rhaknar's Mad.
I'm not to sure about that.

My alts are close to breaking their personal bests which they haven't been to for quite some time. Pretty significant jumps actually up to high 50's low 60's as of yesterday evening.

Like Scout I'm thinking that much gain isn't just from folks with nerfed kits but we've had other folks drop off. With Christmas coming I expect and hope many folks will return due to extra time off, winter in this hemi and hopeful Christmas content. And I unnerfed all mine except for Hawk's Ring of Warding to see. Actually Hawk jumped a level as well and that's with his Fogbough bonuses expired and the Ring of Warding vs. Grujassa's Band from 17 to 16 so someone higher dropped or may be nerfed.

Wouldn't bother me a bit to lose a pile of spots from returning folks - in fact I welcome the thought. :)

Tarlaro's last potion made me #4 overall in SP, so my new helmet (when I get it later this month) will put me comfortably over 250 SP.

I also got a nice jump in overall skills and powers.

While I wasn't trying to do this, I've leapfrogged over TG at #25.

In the realm of mixed news, I see DonMoody's Beth Draedon has rejoined the HoC.

The good news is that DonMoody's back.

The bad news is Beth Draedon's now 15 and pushed most of us down one. That sparrow/vulture guy is not even in the top 20 right now (Hawk, that was it).

Yeah, I was gone for a while in December then returned and (after my first - and somewhat sizable - donation) did some shopping.

I'm figuring that will keep me pretty well locked in the top 20 as after the [rather serious] shopping Beth Draedon's #15 Adventurer Rank (Overall) is now comparable to her #19 Skills (Overall) and her #13 Powers (Overall) rankings.

Well, today my overall adventure rank (this is not including pool/shroom bonuses from Fogbough) is #139, my rank goes up when I bring up my MR and bring down my SP and NV, so when I am grinding scaled encounters my rank is usually around #140-#142, when I have everything put towards MR (the most I can get for MR right now is 170) my rank is #138-#139.

Back in the day before Zumryn and Tarn and the Alder Throne and Fogbough, right after I had done Runeskin I was up around #39-#40, I stepped away from the game for about 2 months came back and was like #288. Been slowly crawling my way back up.

So much catching up to do! When I returned to Syrth earlier this week after a two-year absence Varsil was ranked about #190 and Ecthelion at #120.

Don't think I'll ever hold a top ten-top ten spot again but I'm pleased to announce that Ecthelions back in the top 100 at least - currently at #96. :)

Hearking back to the old days... I remember when it was difficult to accumulate 1000XP over the course of a day's adventuring. Heck, that's less than what's achievable in a half hour now.

My AG membership is up for renewal in about 20 days. Judge Fury will still have some work ahead of him to max all abilities to legendary status and still won't be able to claim top ranking.

I gues he's going to have to resort to berating Varsil Demonsoul to follow in Ecthelion's footsteps and get a move-on!

Varsil will always have a distinguished standing among his fellow adventurers. However, he needs to have realistic expectations if a new "Festival of Blades" is held; and the same holds for Elrohir! Yeah, those grinding guru$ with the best that Tallys has to offer are hard to beat. Just check the statues in the Battlegrounds.

So very true. I've just been having a quick look at Bounty Hunters stats and equipment for example - hes always been up near the very top of the Sryth tree - it just appears that the tree has got a lot taller now!

Speaking of the statues, just out of curiousity - what does one have to do to get a statue erected in the battlegrounds? Is it for a top placing in one particular challenge or are they gained from doing well across the board?

There are three types/categories of statues. Each regular challenge (there have been limited time ones) gives one type statue for the top spot and a different type for the first runner up in each challenge. Then there are additional statues (the third type) for the next 3 to 5 runner ups (can't recall the exact numbers/breakdown for the smaller statues.

I've consigned myself to polymorphing into a large Roc, flying over and depositing my envious sentiments offering my congratulations. :cool:;)

As far as I can tell, the top 10 in BHC get a statue and the top person in LoO gets a statue. The remaining statue is for the person highest in BHC and LoO combined. I was briefly #10 in LoO and thought I'd get a statue, only to compare rankings and see only that the BHC people got the statue.

There seems to be some uncertainty regarding the statues.
As best as I have been able to tell (based solely upon the minimal tracking I did going from not having a statue of my character to having a statue of my character and seeing that statue's order in the list of statues change over time as the I was able to increase my Level Attained), it appears to be based upon a combination of the character's success in The Bone Horde Challenge and The Lords of Ogredom.

I am not sure but the times I've checked, it looks like a pretty solid rule of thumb is to add the characters' rankings on the Challenge Leaderboards, then arranged statues based upon that 'combined total'.
If two characters have the same total, I am unsure what the 'tie breaker' would be as I have not seen any consistency.
Except for uncertainty of how 'tied' totals are ranked, the above method has matched with statue order every time I've checked.

It is also possible it may be based upon combining the total Levels Attained on the two challenges.
I haven't tracked this as often as I did the above method and the few times I did, the order achieved was the same as the method above (so no way to tell if it is one and not the other).

Perhaps it is again time to do some tracking ... especially considering there are large statues of two characters (instead of the more common single large statue) standing on the left side of the gallery.

Nevermind OS - you cant have all the answers all the time! Otherwise Dons nice bit of detailed analysis would have been rendered pointless which would be most unfair to some good research. :)

I'm assuming theres a really simple answer for all this. First come first served. When characters are tied in rank on all the lists in the Hall of Champions its the one who got there first thats highest up, with each new arrival at that rank being placed beneath them. I seem to recall that the same thing applied with the Proving Grounds tables that used to be in use. So it seems to be the GMs favoured system.

The only bit that doesn't quite fit the theory is the Trent/Garet Jax anomaly. Clutching at straws here but it may well be that GJ is higher placed as he reached the level first and although Trent has now surpassed him the actual statue listing doesn't update as frequently as the challenge leaderboard does.

Anyway, regardless of that thanks for the details. Now I know how hard the statues are to get I'm going to settle for buying one for my residence instead.

All I know is that when I looked at the statues after I (temporarily) made lvl 10 in LoO, the ten smaller statues perfectly matched the top 10 in the BHC. I didn't see the ranking in LoO factor in except for the top position.

That may have been a coincidence.

Well, getting to the 90+/80+ level in AS&P did move Lancelot ahead of Dooli's Rhia as expected. However, Judge Fury's return to the top 10 at the same time meant that Lancelot's overall ranking remained 16. Still, there's plenty of room to maneuver.

Thanks texlaw. I actually hadn't planned to return for a wee while yet, but reading about the April Fool's gift prompted me to renew my subscription and claim the booty before it isn't claimable any more.

This is, quite possibly, Judge Fury's last year as a visible member of Sryth society, him expecting to max out all skills and powers in the next few months before retiring.

I don't know that I''l ever exceed rank #6 lest I fall prey to another fit of donating. As I look over my shoulder, I see Nathair ap-Dubh, Zedalion and DonMoody well poised to overtake Judge Fury, and Spencer Lionking has been tugging at my cloak for a while now.

I'll just enjoy the view from these heights for as long as it lasts.

Managed to break the top 20 a few days ago and hanging out at 18. I doubt I will go much higher than that primarily because my pockets can't go very deep right now to donate to upgrade my gear. My next infusion of fresh tokens will probably be when I renew my subscription and toss in the extra cash in september.

Magical has been gone for a while. (I posted it somewhere)

I noticed yesterday Scout was #16 (#18 currently).

I just checked and all of my alts are under 200 now without doing any training or upgrading.

That's disturbing considering that the girls were around 240 not long ago (not sure where Ulric was at the time). So that means around 40 to 50 players have quit playing that were ranked between #1 and #240.

I hope that it's just a temporary thing and they will be back shortly...

well 2 years gone and ive gone from unranked to 300 to 150s once im done catching up with the rankars mad and getting my caster renovations done i can begin my grinding got enough bonus xp and all skills and powers to take them to at least 90:)

Good point Scout and as I was somewhat surprised and concerned that all my alts are (at last check a few days ago) ranked in the top 60 in the equipment rankings especially since they only have free items. Granted they're all current (except for the just released adventure) and have some limited time items/AT. Still them being ranked in equipment is a bit disconcerting.

I've slipped down two places, mainly because since the last run of Rhaknar's Mad ended, I've gotten back into DDO online and don't grind Sryth as much. For the first time ever, I have more in-game money (in DDO) than I know how to spend, and this is from someone who rarely had more than 10000 pp to rub together (think of it as 10000 gp in Sryth and you'll get the idea).

Anyway, as my DDO character turns into a crack beholder slayer (banishing weapon plus level drain immunity and deathblock) and a top-ranking member of his guild, Lancelot earns slow and steady experience each day as he waits for the next Mad installment.

Varsil Demonsoul is finally back in the top 100 ranked at #98
(Previous highest spot #12 I think)

Ecthelion has breached the top fifty, ranked at #48
(Previous best #3?)

It's odd. I was able to bump Xaran up to 98 in Unarmed Combat yesterday (WOO HOO!), yet he dropped from 47 to 48. Meanwhile, my other two both went up a rank for no obvious reason (from 64 and 65 to 63 and 64, respectively). I wasn't paying close enough attention to see if anyone dropped out of the rankings (or maybe saved with sub-optimal equipment?)

No, not weird, congrats. These things fluctuate like exchange rates.

Some characters recently dropped in rankings on purpose (i.e., equipment change, etc.), for various reasons that are mostly to do with long-term plans combined with short-term opportunities. Enjoy your new rankings, don't worry, it all makes sense, all happens logically, the numbers add up - it's not just random, arbitrary change, even when it seems to be.

I am pleased with the fact that despite switching from Unarmed to SSL for XP reasons, Xaran is holding at #44. I guess the SP and NV boosts (plus the new elixir) made up for the ~15 point drop in MR.

Not sure about the NV. Maybe the GM finally implemented it in the overall rankings and hasn't ranked it individually though.

Well, the NV was only 1 point, from the Spectral Flame Ring. The SP was much more significant, I think 7 points. Once the elixir is in full effect (1 more day!), I'll have dropped about 13 MR, net. I also raised Weaponry to 90, so that probably has an effect on my ranking, too.
